The jaguar, Panthera onca, is a big cat, a feline in the Panthera genus, and is the only Panthera species found in the Americas. The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere.
Unfortunately, the jaguar is a near threatened species and its numbers are declining. Threats include loss and fragmentation of habitat.
This one is a wild old male and he was resting in a river bank at Rio Cuibá, Mato Grosso (Pantanal National Park). Very difficult light conditions, handheld and taken from a little boat.
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

Memories of yesterday
they were a moment in time
A warm summer's breeze
the smell of fresh air
a dog barks, the birds sing
amidst the ...echoes of laughter.

I love the light of the setting sun and I like the finality that it presents to the day. It is the light of activity fading into the stillness and finality of night. Much like the deserted homestead on the prairies whose time in the light is over as its existence fades into the evening sun.

I like the sense of loneliness and isolation that this photo portrays. Black and White is such a powerful medium.

Trees are dwarfed by the clouds of billowing smoke from this controlled burn off of the stubble on this field. It was about a half hour before sunset so that added nice color to the whole photo as well.

"At this the woman said to the serpent: “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. But God has said about the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden: ‘You must not eat from it, no, you must not touch it; otherwise you will die.’” At this the serpent said to the woman: “You certainly will not die. For God knows that in the very day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and bad." - Genesis 3:2-5

(Spheniscus magellanicus) B28I1495 Punta Tombo - Patagonia - Argentina
Guide Marcos Eugénio
marcos.birds@gmail.com
Punta Tombo is a peninsula into the Atlantic Ocean 110 km (68 mi) south of Trelew in Chubut Province, Argentina, where there is a large colony of Magellanic penguins - the largest such colony in Argentina.
The 2.1 km2 Punta Tombo Provincial Reserve has been protected since 1979, and it is one of the main tourist attractions in Chubut. Punta Tombo is part of the new marine national park at Golfo San Jorge.
The Magellanic penguin colony at Punta Tombo is exposed to overfishing of prey species and oil spills, Many of which go unreported. One such spill in August 1991 claimed the lives of at least 16,000 Magellanic penguins, some of which made landfall at Punta Tombo in an oiled condition. The spill coincided with the population's breeding migration. More penguins were expected to have died at sea. The colony's population exceeded 1,000,000 birds in 1982. Between 1994 and 1995, the colony's population dropped 37%. In 1999, the colony was an estimated 400,000 birds.

Captured this with three RAW shots at -2..0..+2 EV. Digital blending in Photoshop CS6. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Topaz DeNoise to reduce noise. Topaz Clarity for boost in color and contrast.
