silence and calm

You know what’s fun about FLICKR? Getting to revisit old photos and old destinations so you can bring them into your gallery. Here’s Bryce back in December- the snowiest December the park had in 10 years, according to rangers. I was delighted by this. I don’t think I’m ever going to get over the fact that I saw this in person. The moment was perfect. The sun came out. The snow kept falling. The colors of the canyon became more and more vibrant and everything glittered under the snow and ice. Perfection.

The colours of Aurora

Red is rarely see in Aurora. Using a fully modified camera, I am able to capture the full spectrum of colours. Red appears in Aurora when solar particles react with Oxygen at higher altitudes, generally above 150 miles.

Yellow and Pink, also rarely seen, are also associated with high altitude solar activity.

Green, the most common colour for aurora, are associated with solar activity at altitudes between 60 to 150 miles.

Blue and purple, also rarely seen, are associated with solar activity at altitudes of 60 miles or less.

Struggling to get out and shoot at the moment, In the meantime another play in post, this time of a standard beach shot to make it more abstract. I’ve been inspired by people using ICM and when I can next get out that’s what I’m going to try to capture in camera! This is the basic vision but also trying to think of a way to give it my own twist - we’ll see!

Shot this while taking an isolated walk around this beautiful green valley in Glenorchy, Otago, New Zealand. Totally refreshing experience.

A revisit of Niefern's most famous vista point (Waldspielplatz). This time in portrait orientation. The town's lights began to shine, when a small afterglow was visible on the horizon.

This image has a little of everything. Summer milky-way arch, Aurora Borealis, an early Perseid meteor and the Andromeda Galaxy.

She's there - under a gathering of dancing bokeh that adds a touch of magic to the frame. Her face, lit by brilliant light, shines in its own wisdom. The negative space moves her forward in the frame giving back some depth the camera inherently removes. The choice of high contrast in post adds drama with the light and hides unnecessary elements in the dark giving full attention to her.

Lynds’ Dark Nebula 673 (or LDN 673) is a very dense and highly fractured dark cloud complex in the Aquila Rift. It is located some 400 – 500 light-years from Earth. The Aquila Rift forms a huge mass of dark molecular clouds and consists of numerous small and large nebulae. Situated against the Milky Way’s faint starlight, LDN 673 contains raw material to form a huge number of new stars.

Market Life

Her daily life is represented over expanses of time with multiple exposure. The contrasts of a timeless marketplace and looming high rises in the background anchor her ever changing life. Port Arlington - Down at the Bellarine on a Sunday morning and decided to go out first thing for a shoot, I came across this canola field on the road to Port Arlington and was lucky enough to get a wonderful sunrise as a bonus.
