Work is nearing completion on the refurbishment of Maryhill Burgh Halls. Looking forward to getting a proper look around soon, but details like these gates are testament to the quality and care that has been put into this project. The forged steel gates designed by master craftsman John Creed, add a striking and contemporary touch which i think perfectly fits this building and generally captures the quality of architecture in this city. www.maryhillburghhalls.org.uk/ During the refurbishments the building has been lit up at night and featured an appearance from The Journeymen to mark its revival.

Office reception interior working with HAUS collective, Glasgow. A lot of care and attention in balancing shadows and highlights. If i was editing this myself i would probably up the contrast here for slightly more dynamism - more often than not with commissioned work - I'm looking to get as natural a reproduction of the architecture as possible, which is what I aim for in most shoots- relying on natural light and the buildings own design and lighting strategy. Here attempting to save myself from being melted by the recent Glasgow heatwave, reflecting through the glass onto my back. A glimpse of the City Chambers building as the reception opens up its frontage to George Square.
Dalkeith Palace (c. 1702) on the site of an earlier castle and the seat of the Montagu Douglas Scott family. The Palace was the creation of Anna Scott, the 1st Duke of Monmouth and Buccleuch’s widow, who employed architect James Smith. Alterations by John Adam (1762) and James Playfair (1786).
"When the Duke of Monmouth died his widow, Anne, asked James Smith to use William of Orange's Palace in Holland as a model for Dalkeith Palace. James Smith completed this large Scottish Country House in 1701-11: it was deemed the grandest of Scottish Classical Houses."
