This area was once the corridor to access the penthouse's on the level above. The tiled structure and strange beige shapes reaching to the glass windows were actually not always there, these area's were originally openings to the floor below as can be seen here:

Inside the reception to JM Architects Maryhill Burgh Halls Refurbishment. This is a cracking piece of architecture - great to photograph and gives a very modern, fresh future to a building that has sat derelict for too long! Passing this building everyday, it's been good to finally see the building in use, and it looks like it will become a great facility for the area... The building has a very dynamic layout, and an array of flexible performance, work, and community spaces set around a central courtyard which allows good natural light into the building... My D200 has done me well over the years, and continues to work well - i've always been impressed with its colour rendition - However, squeezing into tight corners is part of the nature of architecture photography, i've reached the point where a 'full frame' camera is becoming essential to get the most out of of my lenses... So i'm looking forward to investing wisely in some new gear over the next few months... and think the difference in quality with the likes of a Nikon D3 or the promising D800 will be some change!

Architect, fabricator and artist Baxendale is a resourceful and imaginative creator of spaces. This space nestled into the creative zone of Glasgow's Merchant City, is one of his latest projects - building on his technique of using timber palettes and reclaimed timber, bringing to life functional spaces with a warmth and character of their own. creativeboom.co.uk/features/readers-studios-de-anderen-gl...

photographing without the clutter of parked cars & within the confines of the mature trees screening the carpark is challenging so i opted for a reflection in a puddle and flipped it so that it appears 'right way up'. i left the inverted cars at the bottom for fun.
oh & i made it sepia.
Pollok House stands close to the north bank of the White Cart Water as it flows through Pollok Country Park. The surrounding landscape gives every appearance of being open countryside, yet Pollok House is just over three miles south west of Glasgow city centre, and Pollok Country Park lies immediately to the east of the M77 and entirely within the built up area of the city: the park is also home to the Burrell Collection.

A shot from a commission to photograph this rehabilitation centre (for residents with Alcohol Related Brain Disease) and some new housing.
This shot took a while to get sorted, and uses about 3 or 4 exposures manually blended to achieve the look I was looking for as the light faded. Timing is critical with these shots and did not help that a car garage owner decided to park and then proceeded to move back and forth in the foreground of the shot. In the end I offered him ten pounds to let me get the shot before it got too dark and cold! - at that time of year its amazing how quickly the light fades! All part of the job sometimes! An interesting building this though designed by Collective Architecture - more shots on my website here

The Burrell Collection building was awarded A-listed status by Historic Scotland in recognition of its position as one of the country’s finest examples of 1970s architectural design. It was designed by a team led by Barry Gasson and Brit Andersson. www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/burrell-collection

An upload whilst processing a job for a client and deciding on views and angles. This was a challenging elevation to shoot, confined space and field of view, limited clean views of the entire rear elevation of the building with surrounding city blocks casting strong shadows for most of the day. A wider shot further back was maybe better at showing the whole building but this closer in view shows the relationship between the deck access flats and the tower. I like the simple utilitarian feel to this social housing block and it is interesting to see a reinterpretation of the 'deck access' concept of housing. This is the rear elevation, which so often gets forgotten about; cost savings reducing what's left to an after-thought blank white wall. These flats are spacious, well designed, safe, secure and energy efficient providing much needed housing for Govanhill HA. Shot before people have moved in, the building is in pristine condition here, although I feel the shot could maybe benefit from a passing refuse truck or some people moving through the building. Processing this was quite difficult to get the right balance of shadows as the screens and cantilevers produce a lot of shadow, which through layers, gradients and masking I have lifted but tried to keep the tonal white > black range as natural to the eye as possible.
Work is nearing completion on the refurbishment of Maryhill Burgh Halls. Looking forward to getting a proper look around soon, but details like these gates are testament to the quality and care that has been put into this project. The forged steel gates designed by master craftsman John Creed, add a striking and contemporary touch which i think perfectly fits this building and generally captures the quality of architecture in this city. www.maryhillburghhalls.org.uk/ During the refurbishments the building has been lit up at night and featured an appearance from The Journeymen to mark its revival.
