Given the resurgent nationalism across multiple regions and the growing centrality of information technology in sowing seeds of distrust and violence, it is critical to rethink the role of public diplomacy in combating ideologies and narratives of adversarial state and non-state actors in current as well as emerging conflicts.
CPD hosted a panel discussion on March 8th that explored the challenges and strategies in countering violent extremism, public outreach efforts amidst military conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, and in navigating information warfare in great-power confrontation.

Given that Independence didn't happen 'til 1922, Ireland was still part of the UK during WWI (although Home Rule was supposed to have happened, but had gotten pushed aside given the raging war and all.) I like that the woman in the poster is obviously playing on the question of masculinity, but is also, in an odd way, it seems to me, personifying Ireland (who is almost always personified female, an Aisling), which seems an odd choice given that this is a British posters and referencing a rallying point for independence would be dangerous.
This makes more sense in my head but it's late and I'm tired.

The mother of a black girl who was not given a medal at an Irish gymnastics event ceremony says the apology she has received is "useless".
"It’s like they blamed her for being black."
A video emerged recently showing the alleged racist treatment of a young black gymnast being ignored by an official who was handing out medals at an event in Dublin last year.
The mother said watching the incident unfold at the time was "horrendous".
Gymnastics Ireland apologised on Monday "for the upset that has been caused".
In the statement, the governing body said it was "deeply sorry", that it knew it needed to do more to ensure "nothing like this will happen again" and it condemned "any form of racism".
But the mother of the girl said the sports body only publicly apologised after 18 months "because the world wanted them to".
" almost useless," she said. "There was no empathy shown, I feel like it's not true.
"It's been 18 months and it seems like they were pressured to give me an apology.
"I cried for so long and then millions of people cried with me before I could get this."
The incident occurred at a GymStart event in the Irish capital in March 2022, when children were awarded participation medals but a young black girl did not receive one on the podium.
The judge at the event later apologised to the family for her "mistake" and said that she would "never ever ever be racist".
However, the girl's family believe their daughter was the subject of racism.

I was given 500 feet of bulk film that expired in 1986, and developing chemicals that expired in 1989. I took some quick photos on Sunday to see if it would be any good, and these are the results. I love it. The contrast it has is wonderful.
Developed in D-76 with Kodak rapid fixer with hardener. I also used a small amount of sulfide during the development.

Given Dale, a classic Yorkshire Wolds valley, pictured at its junction with Whitekeld Dale. The gated bridge in the foreground crosses Whitekeld Beck. As the presence of the cyclist indicates, the track through Given Dale is a public bridleway. It is also part of the 50-mile Minster Way long-distance footpath linking Beverley and York.
Given to Spain in 1968 by Egypt. The temple had to be moved from its orginal site due to construction of the Aswan Dam. The temple now sits in a beautiful park in Madrid.

Didn't sound interesting, and only went because we got half price tickets, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. Didn't anticipate the plot twists, nor the ending. Four accomplished actors that we didn't know, but the audeince seemed to recognise from various TV roles. Lucy (daughter of Danny) DeVito, Leslie Hendrix (Medical Examiner on Law & Order), Kenny Morris (varoius roles) and Michael Mastro (Nurse Jackie).
I was given a couple of samples of Mackmyra whisky to take home today. I have never tried this whisky before. I understand the red bottle is the very first release from this distillery - a small cask which turned out 200 bottles. The blue bottle is the first vatting, i.e. the first main release. It is a privilege to try both, which were given to me by my friends Steve and Alexia. They fed us curry tonight, a lovely evening. I am going to wait to try the whiskies, because I have a bit of a blocked nose just now and I would not be able to taste them properly. But I will come back and add my tasting notes later.

These windows were given by Captain R. Smailes in memory of his eldest son George, who was killed in the First World War; and his youngest daughter, Kathleen, who died when still a young girl. Captain Smailes was Managing Director of a shipping firm called Thos Smailes and Son, whose offices were in Victoria Square, Whitby.

Given the herds of tourist that pass through Ait Ben Haddou, there was a local entrepreneur offering reasonably priced camel rides. You can’t really get this close to the Sahara without riding a camel. All it takes is a few photos on which to build a story of a long trek across the burning sands.
