Given as part of tradition in the Marine Corps, I received my first gold and silver (field and standard) bars from my lieutenants that I coached on the pistol range. Not all of my shooters qualified expert but they all greatly improved over four days.

This regarding the taxonomy of SA (Terrestrial ) Orchids in an electronic publication given me by Bob Bates, who indicated that it could be shared.
I will add this information to all the orchid photos that I publish here, from SA.
"Foreword:
In the past there have been several books and pamphlets dealing with South Australian orchids, the first of these was Dr RS Rogers’ ‘Introduction to South Australian Orchidology’ in 1909 which had previously appeared in series form in that wonderful kiddie journal the Children’s Hour. Rogers only mentions about 50 species. Rogers’ book was upgraded in 1911 and most school libraries had copies for the next 60 years. These books enthused many school children to send orchids they found to Rogers and inspired others to invent common names of their own.
The orchids were next treated in detail in JM Black’s ‘Flora of South Australia’ (1929) which listed less than a hundred species.
Harold Goldsack in the 1950’s treated a similar number in the National Parks of South Australia handbook and in the 1960’s. South Australian Maynard G. Pocock of Adelaide included many SA species in his ‘Ground Orchids of Australia’.
In Flora of South Australia 3rd edit., vol 1 (1976) Weber and Bates treated less than 150 species while Foreman’s book on South Australian orchids in the early 1980’s had even less.
The first really comprehensive book on South Australian orchids was Bates and Weber’s ‘Orchids of South Australia’ which appeared in 1990 and suggested that there may have been more than 150 species of orchid in SA. With a wave of new species published since then and numerous name changes, the above ‘Pink book’ is very outdated today, hence this interim electronic OSA.
We are hopeful that David Jones will name most of the species awaiting publication and follow that up with a new book on our SA orchids. In the meantime many new species have appeared in Jones’ ‘Native Orchids of Australia’ which appeared in September 2006. This treats all known Aussie species. The most recent orchid book, Australian Orchid Research Vol 5 (March 2007) validates 15 new South Australian orchids.
The majority of Eastern Australian publications today, other than State Herbarium sponsored ones use the new segregate genera but we do so here with some reservations. "
After conceding two tries in as many minutes, Medicals are given a prescription by their unhappy captain as the players gather behind the posts during a 34-5 defeat by Horden & Peterlee in rugby union's Durham & Northumberland One. The Newcastle-based visitors were outscored six tries to one on the league season's opening day as the hosts made a winning start to life at their new home, Eden Park, Peterlee. Horden, who over the summer changed their name to Horden & Peterlee, have agreed a 30-year lease with Peterlee Town Council for use of a venue used formerly by Peterlee Newtown FC, Peterlee Town FC and South Shields FC. Over six months, volunteers (the players, mostly) have transformed, inside and out, what was previously a rather drab, unkempt ground. The Horden club, founded in 1925, have moved a few hundred yards from their traditional home, Horden Welfare Park.

This camera was given to me several years ago by the father of a friend who wanted to get rid of all of his old camera stuff. He had used this to shoot slides for church - sometime so that the words to hymns could be projected during the service, sometimes to just record what was going on. It's a good reminder to me of the many who have gone before and served with their cameras.
Shot with a Microsoft Lifecam web cam; 6 images focus stacked in PhotoAcute. The results were adjusted with Adobe Camera Raw and Nik Viveza.

The CPMR’s Intermediterranean Commission (IMC) has given its full backing to key plans for a territorial alliance aimed at developing a long-term strategy to build a sustainable future for all citizens in the Mediterranean.
The ‘Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance Joint Declaration’ was signed by political representatives from 5 Mediterranean organisations - including the IMC, the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée (EPM), MedCities, Latin Arc, and the Adriatic-Ionian Euroregion - at a major international seminar on ‘The Future of the Mediterranean Region after 2020’, held in Barcelona on 4 February being co-organized by the Catalan Government, the EPM and the IMC and attended by more than 200 participants.
This event and signature were performed in the broader framework of the “Mediterranean Catalonia Forum,” that focused on reinforcing the importance of the Mediterranean worldwide and the crucial role of regional cooperation in the EU and Euro-Mediterranean agenda and policies.
It was held back-to-back with the renewal of the Presidency of the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée, from the Government of Catalonia to the Balearic Islands, and the organisation of the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission Political Bureau.
The signature of the “Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance” was attended in particular by politicians of all the involved networks and will remain open for other key actors to endorse it in the future.
Its priorities, among others, are as follows:
• The demands that governing institutions – considering the post-2020 horizon and the two next programming periods – work harder towards the implementation and integration of emerging sea basin, macro-regional strategies and other connected initiatives and cooperation instruments, so as to build a common, more cohesive sustainable and co-owned Mediterranean macro-region involving all the territorial actors;
• Structuring a strong and operational multi-level and multi-stakeholder network, in order to work – together with EU and Euro-Mediterranean Institutions - in a more integrated way in the long run, to design and develop common projects and to support policies based on capitalization of results (e.g. from the Interreg MED Thematic Communities);
• Offering firm support to cooperation at political and technical levels between regional and local stakeholders in the EU, the IPA countries and non-European Mediterranean partner countries, as well as among all the components of the four helix: public and private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations/civil society.
Given the resurgent nationalism across multiple regions and the growing centrality of information technology in sowing seeds of distrust and violence, it is critical to rethink the role of public diplomacy in combating ideologies and narratives of adversarial state and non-state actors in current as well as emerging conflicts.
CPD hosted a panel discussion on March 8th that explored the challenges and strategies in countering violent extremism, public outreach efforts amidst military conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, and in navigating information warfare in great-power confrontation.

LIRC Yard Slug S-10 was originally built by EMD in January 1952 for the Texas & Pacific Railroad and given the number TP #814. When the T&P merged with the Missouri Pacific in 1976, she joined the MOPAC fleet of locomotives as number 8003. She was rebuilt into a yard slug and renumbered by the MOPAC to #1401; eventually joining the Union Pacific’s fleet as Yard Slug UP #S-10. She came to the LIRC and retained her S-10 number. LIRC GP39-2 #2378 was originally built by EMD in June 1984 for the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad “The KATY” and given number MKT #379. She was later merged into the Union Pacific fleet of locomotives as UP #2378; eventually making her way to the LIRC with the same number.
I was given the opportunity this year to sponsor the Budget Savvy Bridal Show that was put on by Totally Beautiful Moments and MBT Marketing Solutions.
Just at the look of the crowd that nearly filled every available space in the building, I'd say the event was a success! I was blessed with the duty of capturing the event and manning my booth during the event, which turned out to be pretty interesting. It turned out better than I thought and I was able to talk with several prospects to say the least. Mrs. Peterson had to do some school work and be mom, so she was unable to woman the booth this time around. She owes me one!!! Here is what happened at the show. Tegami. A hand made postcard given to me in Omura City, Nagasaki. The text explains that after the war people could remove the covers from the lamps used to darken houses for fear of being bommed. Article 9 brought light to peoples life. Never again do people want to live in darkness.
