Our guide had given us scores of bargaining tips for when we were walking through all these market stalls on Shuidongmen Wharf just after getting off the Li River cruise boat. Here general advice appeared to be don't. The overcrowding at these stalls was negligible despite half a dozen rather overcrowded boats landing ahead of us. And many of the stalls were closed. The few that were open were generally minding their own business, speaking only when spoken to. And even the sales pitch was very subdued, if at all. All in all, I found the guide's advise rather unfair on these generally well behaved vendors. Or maybe they left me alone as I was a single non-white male and not accompanied by any ladies. Most stall owners looked tired as well. (Li River Cruise, Guilin- Yangshuo, China, May 2017)

The titles that I have given these windows are purely my own invention and are totally unrelated to the (undeclared) intention of the two artists, Mireille Juteau and Gérard Hermet, maîtres verriers of Chartres. They are in the church of St Jacques just outside the medieval walls of Béziers and were installed in 2013. They are the most astonishing and beautiful windows, which, when we visited, were filling the church with glorious coloured light, which was reflected in the softly coloured stonework of the Norman walls. Sadly the church is usually locked.

Given to the French by the Egyptians in the 1800s, King Louis Philippe placed it on the spot where the guillotine stood.

During the French Revolution, the Place de la Concorde was called the Place de la Révolution and executions took place here, including the execution of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and Maximilien Robespierre.

On the drive to Queenstown we stopped and had a chance to see people bungy jump.

People did it singly and as doubles and were dropped down to the river to be picked up in a boat.

We were all given a chance but not took the chance.

I was given an Adana Model 8x5 letterpress by my father. Not sure how old it is, but they started making them in 1953 in Twickenham, Middlesex, England. This is the condition I got it in, as it was in a basement for about 20 years or more... In process of cleaning it up and running some test prints!

Given away at the Derby Food Festival 2014. Vegetarian and very hot!

it was also pretty.

The CPMR’s Intermediterranean Commission (IMC) has given its full backing to key plans for a territorial alliance aimed at developing a long-term strategy to build a sustainable future for all citizens in the Mediterranean.

The ‘Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance Joint Declaration’ was signed by political representatives from 5 Mediterranean organisations - including the IMC, the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée (EPM), MedCities, Latin Arc, and the Adriatic-Ionian Euroregion - at a major international seminar on ‘The Future of the Mediterranean Region after 2020’, held in Barcelona on 4 February being co-organized by the Catalan Government, the EPM and the IMC and attended by more than 200 participants.

This event and signature were performed in the broader framework of the “Mediterranean Catalonia Forum,” that focused on reinforcing the importance of the Mediterranean worldwide and the crucial role of regional cooperation in the EU and Euro-Mediterranean agenda and policies.

It was held back-to-back with the renewal of the Presidency of the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée, from the Government of Catalonia to the Balearic Islands, and the organisation of the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission Political Bureau.

The signature of the “Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance” was attended in particular by politicians of all the involved networks and will remain open for other key actors to endorse it in the future.

Its priorities, among others, are as follows:

• The demands that governing institutions – considering the post-2020 horizon and the two next programming periods – work harder towards the implementation and integration of emerging sea basin, macro-regional strategies and other connected initiatives and cooperation instruments, so as to build a common, more cohesive sustainable and co-owned Mediterranean macro-region involving all the territorial actors;

• Structuring a strong and operational multi-level and multi-stakeholder network, in order to work – together with EU and Euro-Mediterranean Institutions - in a more integrated way in the long run, to design and develop common projects and to support policies based on capitalization of results (e.g. from the Interreg MED Thematic Communities);

• Offering firm support to cooperation at political and technical levels between regional and local stakeholders in the EU, the IPA countries and non-European Mediterranean partner countries, as well as among all the components of the four helix: public and private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations/civil society.

Shot with my Sigma 12-24 @ 12mm. GIven the circumstances, the only way I'd be able to get this shot entirely as I foresaw it in my mind would be to shoot it on Film, or full frame digital. Seeing as there is no full frame Sony body, the latter is not currently an option... yet? The shot could use a slight rotation and cropping off the bottom (look at the bottom right corner specifically to see what i mean)

On any given day during the warmer months, one can be treated to the vast array of dragonfly and damselfly species, and when looking closely, the distinct patterns and colors are prominently displayed. Being so small in stature and often on the go from plant to plant, or in wide circles over the body of water, photographing them with a high level sharpness is not that easy, but with patience and a sense of their flight and landing habits, successful shots are not impossible.

Pond life with creatures of the animal kingdom or plants, offer so much beauty for one to appreciate. Although not on a grand scale, the activity within the simple setting is truly phenomenal. When we visit such landscape to observe and/or photograph, the endless wealth of subjects is truly astonishing--just stop and really look, and you would marvel at the things you will see.

This garden, nestled amongst hills and brooks, is like the proverbial Garden of Eden. Incorporating the natural landscape and creating a truly enchanting garden around it makes this place a MUST VISIT site for anyone with a sense of appreciation for nature in a quiet way. Nothing pretentious, but so much can be seen and learned from each outing. The bucolic setting will put your heart and soul at ease, and quickly remove the stress of everyday life—at least, while you are there.

The vast collection of trees and plants is incredible, and the landscape garden planning and design is of superb presentation and care. Wildlife such as birds, insects, amphibians and reptiles can be seen regularly and the pure air of life emanates throughout this lovely terrain. The brooks and ponds are rich with activity and whether you enjoy photography or not, just being there is reward enough.

Situated in Far Hills of Somerset County of New Jersey, this hidden gem is worth the trip. Upon your first view, you will know instantly that this is a special garden, unique unto itself . . .

Proof of the title I've given this will be forthcoming, and I'm sure I'll regret it. :P

This image is for ~~Katie~~  and for majorlight. It's for ~~Katie~~  because she was the first to tag me to upload an image of myself from when I was 10-years-old or younger and the image I had uploaded earlier wasn't of me at any of those ages, and it's for majorlight because she recently tagged me to do the same and I haven't yet, until now, fulfilled that requirement.

Can't get much younger than this, folks. I was brand-spankin' new. Fresh off the assembly-line. And contained in that birth notice is proof-positive that I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Aries—apparently I was destined to be a "headbanger" from birth! Hah! LOL! What it doesn't tell you is that that young buck pictured up there was Made-in-England, but Born-in-the-USA, and right on the Canadian border, too, but not before landing on Portuguese shores in the Azores. LOL! Given that I was in-transit while still in the womb, I don't think it mattered that I was born an Air Force brat. I would've ended up in-transit for life, anyway, as has already happened and as continues to happen to this very day. What can I say? I was born an itinerant soul. :P LOL!

More's a-comin', and it's only going to get worse, I can promise you that. :P LOL! I pity you.

FOOTNOTE: And, yeah, now you know my full given name. Let me tell ya, you can't get much more freakin' British than that! The name Gary is typically shown to have one of two sources, either Middle-English, in which case it means either "firm spear" or "spear of war" and also has Teutonic roots (as in Gareth, "firm spear", or Garvey, "spear of war"—English, after all, is a Germanic language), or Celtic, in which case it means "gardener" and, again, also has Teutonic roots (as in Garth, meaning "gardener" or "a field" or "an enclosure"). The name Dean, however, is firmly Old-English, meaning a "dene, or wooded valley".

Given the detrimental effects of insufficient nutrition on child well-being, learning ability, academic performance, and future productivity, promoting healthy diets and improved nutrition should be a high priority on school development agendas. To this end, FAO organized a regional workshop to present and discuss school food and nutrition approaches in Europe and Central Asia on 11–13 December in Minsk.

The event is part of an FAO project on strengthening food security and nutrition in selected countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia, funded by the Russian Federation.

Kersey is a small village in Suffolk that became very wealthy in the Medieval period through the manufacture of woolen cloth and dyes, including "Kersey Green" dye. This led to an abundance of larger merchants houses and weavers cottages.

However, just like nearby Lavenham, when the wool trade declined in the 18th century, so did the village. The result was that older buildings were left standing rather than being expensively re-developed. It has thus given us this splendid gem of Medieval architecture and community to admire today.

Given my lack of formal training, outside of a single class in high school, I decided it was time to take a look at my fundamentals. I'm working through what is probably the most definitive text when it comes to photography and light. This is my take on the classic dark field lighting shot, coupled with the beautiful colors of this German Apfelwein.

Given that today was a sick day, my choices for a picture were pretty limited. It was either this or me hunched over a toilet vomiting. Figured this was the better option :P

As for what I'm reading, it's actually a pretty sad tale. Not the story itself, but the story behind the story. The primary author, Craig Hinton, died in 2006 before being able to finish this book (which would not have seen publication anyway since, with Doctor Who was returning to the screen, the rules had changed over at BBC's publishing arm to rule out any more past Doctor books.) So it was completed by Chris McKeon and printed as an unauthorized charity publication. And it's a pity that it's not 'official' as it's one damned good book so far.

During the speech given on 14 May at the ceremony to celebrate Europe day, in the presence of Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and Mayor of Vinnytsia Serhiy Morhunov, the Vice-President of the Congress praised the efforts made by the City of Vinnytsia in order to improve living conditions of citizens, to fight corruption and promote higher education of young people. She said these results were made possible by a dynamic and determined municipal policy within a peaceful Europe. She stated that Europe day symbolises the reconciliation between people after the Second World War and celebrates peace and unity in Europe. “We should never forget that it is the process of European construction that has allowed us to make peace with the past and to live without any major conflict since then” she underlined. Mentioning the crisis that have rocked European countries for several years – including the return of war in some parts of Europe and in Ukraine in particular – she said” we must find again the path towards political will and solidarity, to make our societies more prosperous and more inclusive”. Quoting the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Gudrun Mosler-Törnström concluded that “Ukraine has much work ahead of it and Europe is here to help”.

Given the results, which of these two would you choose? Both of these photos were taken in full sunlight.

This was taken without using flash and with a low f-stop. I really like brilliant textures and colours that natural sunlight photos convey, but it's hard to choose whether to use flash or not.
