The bridge name, given by Lord Byron in the 19th century, comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice out the window before being taken down to their cells.

Someone Hand Made Scarf And Hat Being Given Away Free On A Fence At Union Station

Opened 17 Apr 1864 on land given by Patrick McNamara, also used as school, closed 1916, demolished 1925, stone used for house in Auburn, bell to Auburn Methodist (now Uniting), church. A coping stone from church given to National Trust for safe-keeping was incorporated in cairn erected 2014.

“At Undalya a site for the church was donated by Mr. Patrick McNamara.” [Southern Cross 24 Apr 1925]

“a brief account of the dedication of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter [sic] at Undalya, Wakefield Bridge, on Sunday last. Four priests officiated at the service. The Rev. Father Smyth preached a most impressive dedication sermon. The church was crowded, and numbers stood outside, unable to gain admittance. The collections amounted to upwards of £175 towards the cost of the building. It is a very pretty church — Gothic in style of architecture, and situated upon the hill on the southern side of the bridge, commanding a view of the whole country. I should say from appearance it is capable of seating something like 200 persons. It certainly does that body of Christians great credit in erecting so pretty a building.” [Register 25 Apr 1864]

“The Catholics have now a school at Undalya, supplemented by the Board of Education, and held in their handsome new chapel, which presents a fine appearance in the distance, but is found already far too small. [Advertiser 7 Aug 1865]

“the Archbishop was met at Manoora Station by the newly appointed pastor (Father Prendergast)and several of the principal members of the congregation. The object of his visit was to meet the people on the subject of the claim of the Jesuit Fathers (who had resigned the charge of adjacent missions of St. Patrick's, Undalya, and St. Stephen's, Saddleworth) on residence at Manoora.” [Southern Cross 19 Sep 1890]

“Auburn. . . The old Wesleyan Church, which since Methodist union has been used for Sunday school purposes, has been purchased by the Roman Catholics. It is understood that services will be starter there shortly and that St. Patrick's Undalya, about three miles away where services have been held, will be closed.” [Murray Pioneer 1 Sep 1916]

“As Undalya was approached, I was greatly disappointed that the sharp, steep, sloping roof of the old Roman Catholic church was not discernible.” [Register 13 Oct 1925]

“150th anniversary of the opening of St Patrick’s Church, Undayla . . . The church was closed in 1916 when the Catholic Community of Undalya purchased the Auburn Wesleyan Methodist Church. The cross from St Patricks was relocated to the new church, named Our Lady of Peace. . . a cairn built on the original church foundations. In 1925 St Patricks church building was demolished by a local builder who used the stone in a house in Auburn, and the gabled coping stone given to the National Trust for safe keeping. . . the cairn, built at no charge by local stone mason Peter Russell.” [Northern Argus 7 May 2014]

In about 1965 I was given a collection of slides. They were taken in about June1964.

This one was undated but is of a flowers in Chelsea flower show.

Trying out the new Veho slide scanner. Trial scans to see how well it does.

Apart from rotating I have uploaded these exactly as they scanned.

Another Saturday morning given up to my old job brought me to this beautiful overlook at Center Hill Lake. I absolutely love the water, and I love this lake! The conference I was helping with was at the Appalachian Center for Crafts (an extension of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville)...its campus is to the very right of this photograph, hidden up a winding road at the top of the mountain.

We'd been given a voucher for two cocktails before a meal after I got their new Brentford Sam's Larder onto Google Maps (despite their moderators trying to insist it was bare buidling site). My wife had a martini and I had a whisky and ginger highball. A great start to the evening.

Given the location, it is not impossible that this might be the same Marsh Wren who barely let me get a look at it last week. But that particular bunch of reeds had, from sounds of it, at least two different Marsh Wrens claiming territory, so maybe not. What an assertive cutie. Light was so great I had a "no edits but crop" day on the 18th.

The makuuchi enter as two groups, one from the East and one from the West. The two groups will fight each other during the tournament. Each makuuchi is wearing a ceremonial garment that is given to him when he becomes ranked as one of the makuuchi. The makuuchi are the top-ranked division of sumo wrestlers. Some of these garments have real diamonds sown into them and can be worth 2 million yen!

This window was given in memory of Mary Free, who died in 1920 ( aged 88). It is a top light of a window depicting the Nativity, in the church of St Mary & St Michael, Mistley with Manningtree. The current church is an amalgamation of St Mary, Mistley and St Michael, Manningtree after the latter church was condemned as unsafe and demolished in the 1960's. There have, in fact, been four different churches in this area, each on a different site but with a combined history stretching back to the 12th century. Two Robert Adam towers are all that remain of the 18th century Mistley church and this current church is a Victorian replacement on a different site but it has a welcoming and broad-minded congregation, which, although it belongs to the Church of England, share the space with Catholics who regularly celebrate Mass there twice a week. The stained glass, alas, all appears to be unsigned and dates can only be assessed from the dedications.

WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Season 2017-2018

I've given thinkdrastic.net a new lick of paint, simply because I was so thoroughly bored of the old look. I'd like to do a complete redesign but I'm struggling to motivate myself to do such a thing at the moment.

Garry "G-Dog" Higgins gets his five minutes of web-fame - he's pictured in the header. I took the photos last july, up on Leckhampton Hill. Hallo Dave! You're my bike now!

Up to this year I had given up photography for quite few years. I packed away my cameras and all the paraphernalia that goes with them. I rarely even opened photoshop.

I had nearly 100,000 images spread over a range of computers and hard disks and I couldn't face looking at them.

I felt that despite taking photos for over 30 years, I hadn't gained any skill and lost any enthusiasm to try.

I was also struggling with my health and mobility and that definitely didn't help.

However, I did dust my camera off for horse shows as the girls wanted photos of their horses and I wanted to give them what they wanted.

So the old me would take photos like this and nothing else. The new me is trying to learn, hoping to develop and has managed to get to day 185 of a photo a day. Here's to the next 180 photos.
