Ok, so my new librarian friend, Bunny Spice,http://www.flickr.com/photos/bunnyspice/, who I have probably seen at some library event somewhere, suggested that I ...

"I enjoy your stream. We are quite alike in our photography tastes, which makes this fun for me.

I challenge you to take three of your favorite things (or a representation of) and compose a lovely still-life. You can light and process it as you wish, but it should be representative of your personality and style. "

I first had to think of three (notice how I scored a couple of extras?) favorite things. I hope it's a lovely still-life. I looked at the project as a story. In the year 2035 a grandchild is given a very old leather suitcase. The story she is told: this suitcase belonged to your great-grandmother, and years ago your grandmother treated it like a time capsule and packed away three (or four) things that had meaning for her. There is a letter, hand-written, that tells a bit about your grandmother, but she hoped that these objects would give you a broader picture of what was important to her and what were some things that shaped her life. Inside the suitcase the grandchild found: a wedding photo in a silver frame, an old toy car, a photo of three young adults, a bald doll, and a yellowed school schedule of some sort. The grandchild took them out, examined them, and pieced together significant pieces from the life of her aging grandmother. Whether the child was correct will never matter. What is important is that she held the objects and gave them life again.

I was given three rolls of 35mm Kodak Technical Pan (expired 2002). I hunted around for a development scheme and finally settled on this. Mostly because I had Rodinal. I'm only posting in case some of you still have some in the fridge.

16 EI

Rodinal 1+150 for thirteen minutes

Agitate with 30 seconds initial inversions, then 3 inversions at 10 minutes,7 minutes,4 minutes, and 1minute counting down. (every 3 minutes)

Regular stop, fix and hypo.

I used 5ml of Rodinal in 750ml of H2O. That gives less than the recommended 10ml of Rodinal but the negatives really look great (full tone scale).

I had to figure out a curve profile as I felt (and still do) that the midtones were not right. Technical Pan is also a dust magnet; lots of healing tool. Even with Rodinal there is virtually no grain.

Given our name, The Pointe at Kilpatrick, and our location, south suburbs of Chicago, one might think that we take St. Patrick's Day seriously. They would be right.

Residents started decorating their doors with shamrocks at the beginning of the month. There were also St. Patrick's Day themed crafts and activities, including the most anticipated, Soda Bread Baking. Each year, Program Director, Angie Garbaczewski, sets up the small kitchen on the first floor with all the ingredients and supplies for making homemade soda bread. And a lot of them. Starting bright and early at 8:00 and working in small groups, Angie guides the residents through the process. Once one batch is finished, she brings in the next group. This year, they baked for 8 straight hours. The first floor smelled heavenly all day. Once the breads had cooled, the residents would return to claim the one they made. Many of the residents were seen sharing their soda bread with other residents while others were saving theirs to give to family and friends.

St. Patrick's Day finally came and residents showed their true colors as many arrived for breakfast dressed in green. The hot topic at breakfast was lunch. Everyone was looking forward to the traditional meal of corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes and of course, soda bread. You can never have too much soda bread!

Lunch arrived and did not disappoint. The residents were greeted with the smell of corned beef as they neared the dining room. A sea of green filled the room as residents dined at beautifully decorated tables.

The celebrating didn't stop there, Garbaczewski booked a singer and harpist to play a St. Patrick's Day show the day after. Scheduling conflicts made it impossible for her, Kim Vogrin, to play at The Pointe on Monday. "She really is wonderful and well worth the wait." said Garbaczewski. "I knew she would be. Her brother, Paul, performed here on Valentine's Day, singing and playing various instruments. He was just as entertaining and talented."

Given my love of Land Rovers I thought that I would go and spend a couple of hours outside the NAC at Stoneleigh since this weekend was Land Rover Max I thought that this would give me a chance for the first time to have a go at a bit of panning, to say its hard would be an understatement :D

I was given a Rolleimarin set by a former employee of Rollei. It includes several accessories and bags. It's in good condition, but I can't guarantee that it is complete or working. The serial number is 2949. As far as I know, there were 4 different versions of the Rolleimarin available but I don't know, which version this one is exactly (or for which Rollei camera). Because I'm neither a diver, nor a collector, I would like to sell this kit. The Rolleimarin became famous through the spectacular underwater pictures of Hans Hass.

Given the relatively small size of Air Baltic, they established a remarkable hub-concept in Riga: At two times a day, 20 planes arrive from destinations and leave to connections again in less than one hour later. However it's not to forget that except that, the airlines service is rather poor and close to Ryanair (e.g. on luggage fee, check-in fee etc.).

Wedding vows are not something to be taken or given lightly. This image was taken at the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas.

Given the snow and dropping temperatures, I'm afraid this is the last outdoor flower photo of the year.

This little flower of Veronica 'Blue Reflection' started out on the plant, but as the snow continued to fall, so did this flower.

Hmmmm, I miss the sun of southern Arizona....

Given the popularity of Lud's Church for walkers the cleft has had a bit of TLC over the years although the mud bath at the lower end is still excellently deep and gloopy! The name is supposedly derived from Walter de Ludank who was arrested here at a meeting of the Lollards, a Christian religious movement initially led by John Wycliffe in the late fourteenth century.

The administrative pavilion is by far the most important of the hospital buildings, given its function to receive visitors, represent the institution to the world, and constitute a visual screen for the complex. For this reason, it is the most attractive in terms of structure and ornamentation. Its exterior benefits from the epic air supplied by the high dock tower that dominates the centre of the building, which opens as if winged.

A substantial series of sculptures by Pau Cargallo, among which the most important are Ramon Berenguer I, his wife Isabel, who ordered the restoration of the first Hospital de la Santa Creu on July 5 1401; Saint Margaret; Eulàlia, patron saint not only of Barcelona but also of one of the former Barcelona hospitals.

They all combine with sixteen enormous panels, on which mosaics by Maragliano, based on designs by Labarta, recount with historic stringency the antecedents to hospital services and, needless to say, the steps leading to King Martin's founding of the Hospital de la Santa Creu, and eventually the founding of the Hospital de Sant Pau.

The interior impresses the visitor with its vast space, which combines the porches at the vehicle entrance, the elegance of die main staircase, and the exceptional quality of a conference room in keeping with the solemnity required. Each of the two wings is closed at the end by a rectangular building: one contains the library-Museum and the other the Secretariat-Archives. The left wing has suffered mutilations that affect not only the structure but also the ambience.

Decoration is everywhere, though stained glass does not enjoy the same prominence here as in other works: mosaic appears in the form of Labarta’s designs and also acts as borders; ceramic tile covers large surfaces and was chosen because it is durable and easy to dean. However, the creative contribution that far outweighs the others is the set of sculptures entirely by Pau Cargallo, exceptional in terms both of quality and quantity.

The Hospital de la Santa Creu i de Sant Pau is a veritable modemista city within modernista Barcelona.

47593 was temporarily given its original number & was soon renumbered back to 47790 if I recall correctly. It is currently stored (I think) as DRS slowly dispense with their 47 fleet, although it has had its time in the limelight as it has been one of the dedicated Northern Belle livered loco's.

37423 is still active with DRS carrying their new Compass livery.

57008 & 012 are also still active with DRS.

Here's one of my shots of 47790 in the Northern Belle livery, there are a couple elsewhere on my site in the 2010 onwards album should you care to look.
