De Braziliaanse thrashmetalband rond Max Cavalera
Aan het begin van het nieuwe millennium verklaarde Rolling Stone: “Soulfly lijkt gebouwd om lang mee te gaan.” Meer dan twee decennia, talloze wereldwijde tournees en een dozijn albums later, blijkt die voorspelling waar te zijn. Underground-icoon, baanbreker in extreme metal, strijder van de derde wereld en leider van een diverse en toegewijde stam, Max Cavalera overleeft niet alleen, maar floreert, terwijl hij riff na dodelijke riff uitblast. Dezelfde stem, lichaam en geest die Soulfly in 1997 lanceerden, roepen tot op de dag van vandaag onmogelijke zware geluiden op, met tien kolossale nummers op Soulfly’s twaalfde album, Totem uit 2022.
Als een van de meest productieve muzikanten in de geschiedenis van het genre, leidde Max Sepultura van Brazilië naar het wereldtoneel, waarbij hij fans maakte van onder andere Ozzy Osbourne, Deftones en Dave Grohl. Hij was medeoprichter van Nailbomb, Cavalera Conspiracy, Go Ahead And Die, en Killer Be Killed, en bracht album na album uit tot enthousiast onthaal van critici en fans. Maar geen enkel project wordt zo sterk geassocieerd met Max als Soulfly, wiens gouden debuutalbum met ongeëvenaarde vastberadenheid en geest werd ontvangen.
Geproduceerd door Max samen met Arthur Rizk (Code Orange, Ghostemane, Outer Heaven), bevat Totem gastoptredens van John Powers (Eternal Champion), Chris Ulsh (Power Trip), en John Tardy (Obituary). Het album zit vol met de zwartgeblakerde thrash en death invloeden van moderne Soulfly-klassiekers zoals Ritual en Archangel, met knipogen naar de zware genadeloze groove van Primitive, Prophecy en Dark Ages.
Ongeveer 25 jaar sinds de band begon, worden essentiële Soulfly knallers zoals “Jumpdafuckup,” “Back to the Primitive,” “Downstroy,” “Eye for an Eye,” “Ritual,” en “Dead Behind the Eyes” live gevierd, net als Cavalera-klassiekers “Roots Bloody Roots,” “Refuse / Resist,” “Territory,” en “Dead Embryonic Cells.” Totem, vol met honger en energie gesmeed door meer dan drie decennia als een heavy metal kracht, is een passend brute, levendige, extreme en opbeurende toevoeging aan de Soulfly-canon.
Soulfly’s woeste agressieve anthems duwen de grenzen van extreme muziek tot het uiterste, terwijl ze worden geïnjecteerd met briljante momenten van psychedelische nuances en dissonantie. Zoals alle innovatieve muzikale helden, maakt Max anthems voor de mensen. Soulfly is een viering van familie en nalatenschap. Brazilian Thrash Metal Band Centered Around Max Cavalera
At the dawn of the new millennium, Rolling Stone declared, “Soulfly seems built to last.” More than two decades, countless worldwide tours, and a dozen albums later, that prediction has proven true. Underground icon, extreme metal pioneer, Third World warrior, and leader of a diverse and dedicated tribe, Max Cavalera not only survives but thrives, blasting out riff after deadly riff. The same voice, body, and spirit that launched Soulfly in 1997 continue to conjure impossibly heavy sounds today, with ten colossal tracks on Soulfly’s twelfth album, 2022’s Totem .
As one of the most prolific musicians in the genre’s history, Max Sepultura has led Brazil to the world stage, winning fans like Ozzy Osbourne, Deftones, and Dave Grohl. Soulfly’s ferociously aggressive anthems push the boundaries of extreme music to the limit while injecting them with brilliant moments of psychedelic nuance and dissonance. Alkaloid Progressive Death Metal
Progressieve extreme metallers Alkaloid bereiden zich voor om hun nieuwe full-length met veel tentakels, ‘Numen’, te ontvouwen via Season of Mist. Met leden van Triptykon, Obscura, Dark Fortress en Obsidious bouwt het in Duitsland gevestigde kwartet van Morean (zang, gitaren, concepten), Hannes Grossmann (drums), Christian Münzner (gitaar) en Linus Klausenitzer (bas) voort op, breidt uit weg van en reis tussen eerdere langspelers The Malkuth Grimoire (2015) en Liquid Anatomy (2018) op Numen. In elk opzicht hervat Alkaloid de doelbewuste warp van verschillende metalgenres die ze dimensionaal vervagen. Nummers als de video-single voor ‘Clusterfuck’, ‘The Cambrian Explosion’ en ‘Numen’ poneren zware kosmologische/Lovecraftiaanse theoretische thema’s bovenop muzikaal bedreven nummers die toegankelijk en toch onmiskenbaar ingewikkeld ziin.

Alkaloid Progressive Death Metal
Progressive extreme metallers Alkaloid are preparing to unfurl their new multi-tentacled full-length, 'Numen', via Season of Mist. Featuring members of Triptykon, Obscura, Dark Fortress and Obsidious, the Germany-based quartet of Morean (vocals, guitars, concepts), Hannes Grossmann (drums), Christian Münzner (guitar) and Linus Klausenitzer (bass) builds on, expands on from and journey between previous long players The Malkuth Grimoire (2015) and Liquid Anatomy (2018) on Numen. In every respect, Alkaloid resumes the deliberate warp of various metal genres that blurs them dimensionally. Songs like the video single for 'Clusterfuck', 'The Cambrian Explosion' and 'Numen' posit heavy cosmological/Lovecraftian theoretical themes on top of musically adept songs that are accessible yet undeniably complex.

De band bestaat volledig uit muzikanten die gaan voor het beste, en als geen ander weten waar het ROCK publiek op zit te wachten: moddervette riffs, dampende gitaren, beukende dubbele bassdrum, ronkende bass, een zwellend Hammond organ en een dijk van een zanger die het allemaal moeiteloos aankan – kortom The Metal Studs!
