I scored a perfect bag of fresh ginger root in the dumpster this afternoon. Thought I’d shave some into an ice cold glass of Coke. It’s delicious. Laying back and enjoying it while I watch the Jack Benny Christmas episode. I absolutely love this special. I first saw it as a kid on TV very early in the morning. I remember it was dark out and my family was still asleep, we had a big snowfall, and the room was lit by the warm light of the tree. Don’t ask me why, but it’s a memory that is so vivid in my mind. A simple, insignificant event, that holds a special place in my heart. Great special. And it’s even better on my “new” console TV.

Not to be confused with the cranberry hibiscus plant that we used in salads all the time, this flower, eaten raw or in a tea, can help stop blood loss, relieve cramping, and I thought was one of the "if you want to get your period, eat this" plants. Maybe not though... Gingerroot and passionflower were also supposed to be helpful with cramps.

This one comes from the name brand everyone knows and loves - Tobasco. I was going to do this for the first Friday in Lent, but then I remembered that Ash Wednesday is also supposed to be meatless so I decided to do it today. Not sure what meatless offering I will be doing on Friday as this year’s food journey has gone to the next level and is not stopping for the pre-Easter season known as Lent. I’m not going to lean into it as much as I have in the past, but there are still going to be plenty of seafood and soup offerings.
180 g. (1 c.) dry White Rice
* Cook rice per instructions on package
23 ml. (1 ½ tbsp.) Soy Sauce
5 ml (1 tsp.) Toasted Sesame Oil
2 lg. Garlic Cloves (minced)
3 tsp. Gingerroot (minced)
10 ml. (2 tsp.) TOBASCO ® brand Pepper Sauce
* Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and pepper sauce until consistent
227 g. (½ pd.) peeled Crawfish Tails or Shrimp (cleaned & deveined)
* Toss crawfish or shrimp in mixed sauce
3 Eggs
1/4 tsp. Salt
5 ml. (1 tsp.) Toasted Sesame Oil
5 ml. (1 tsp.) TOBASCO ® brand Pepper Sauce
* Beat eggs with salt, sesame oil, and pepper sauce and set aside
14 g. (1 tbsp.) Peanut Oil
* Heat peanut oil in hot wok or skillet
* Add crawfish (or shrimp) mixture to hot pan for 3-4 minutes
* Remove from pan when done
14 g. (1 tbsp.) Peanut Oil
* Heat peanut oil in hot wok or skillet
1 sm. Onion (quartered, thinly sliced)
* Saute onion a couple minutes, and remove
14 g. (1 tbsp.) Peanut Oil
* Heat peanut oil in hot wok or skillet
* Add egg mixture, cook til done
cooked cold Rice (about 375 grams, about 3 cups)
* Add cooked rice, for 3-4 minutes
Crawfish or Shrimp
sauteed Onion
128 g. (1 ½ c.) Bean Sprouts
134 g. (3/4 c.) frozen Green Peas
3/4 tsp. Salt
Black Pepper (as desired)
* Add crawfish (or shrimp), onion, bean sprouts, green peas, salt and black pepper and toss until consistent for a couple minutes.
It’s not how I would have done it but 'there's more than one way to skin a cat' and you’ll see that when I put more of a personal spin on it in a couple days, or I could just use the recipe I did five years ago called - Cajun-Style Seafood Fried Rice.
