The monument of liberation (Yadgar) from British Raj reminds us of the wonderful sacrifice of the local people who fought with bravery and annexed Gilgit/Baltistan to Pakistan on November 1, 1947, under the command of Great Leader Colonel Mirza Hassan Khan(Late).

Hispar Glacier is a 49 km (30 mi) long glacier in the Karakoram Mountains of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan which meets the 63 km (39 mi) long Biafo Glacier at the Hispar La (Pass) at an altitude of 5,128 m (16,824 ft) to create the world's longest glacial system outside of the polar regions. This 100 km (62 mi) highway of ice connects two ancient mountain kingdoms, Nagar (immediately south of Hunza) in the west with Baltistan in the east.

Established in 1998, the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School (AKHSS), Gilgit is a premier educational institution for boys, offering classes from grade VIII to XII. The spacious campus with adjoining sports grounds is purpose-built, and is surrounded by beautiful mountains.
In the 18 years since its establishment, around 1,500 students have graduated from the School to study at leading national and international institutions.
Today, our alumni students are serving as doctors, nurses, engineers, managers, principals, teachers, entrepreneurs and officers in the Armed Forces.
AKHSS, Gilgit has a well-qualified and experienced faculty who each hold a Master’s degree from an accredited university. Many of the faculty members also have professional qualifications, such as B.Ed and M.Ed degrees from renowned institutions such as from the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development.

These Photos were taken at the army polo ground. There are four polo fields in Gilgit and in summer there is a practice game every day and tournaments before it gets to hot.
The old polo ground is where practice is usually held and it is much better for photography as you are on a level with the horses chests and heads and sometimes they are in your lap. You have to sometimes shoot from the hip as you watch for incoming horses players mallets and balls. It is a high speed game with some interesting rules. It seems if you catch the ball you can pass it off to other players which ends up with all players pairing off and tackling each other and their horses. The aim of course is to break free with the ball and run it through the goals. Some of these photos show this happening.

The Shandur Polo festival is the 3 day Chitral/ Gilgit grudge match/tournament held at a high altitude polo field between the two cities in June/ July. It is a good camping trip with polo music and dancing.
