Ghost Sign
Mar-Lo's Flower & Gift Shop
Washington, North Carolina
The sign is old and faded, and the business it advertised apparently has faded even more completely; the only address I turned up through a Google search is for a space nearby on West Main Street that is vacant. The old downtown area is a sort of checkerboard of empty and occupied spaces; the three-story building this sign is on has both sorts of space, but most of it appeared to be vacant. That said, the overall appearance is neat and appealing. We had an excellent dinner at The Bank, in the block of Main Street just west of this sign, on Tuesday evening; as the name suggests, the restaurant is in an old bank building. The downtown area is part of Washington Historic District, entered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 (79001661); there are 512 "contributing buildings" in the historic district. While the community dates from several decades earlier, it has been called Washington since 1776, when it became the first town in the United States named for George Washington. The seat of Beaufort County, it is on the Pamlico River, a few miles upstream from Pamlico Sound.

An accidental double exposure of my brother Matthew when he was a couple weeks old. Now that I look at it again, maybe it was intentional. He is positioned up in the black portion, where he would show up better in a double exposure.

A train pulls into Macquarie Park Station. The exposure of 1/2 Sec (hand held) was enough to give this ghost effect...
This photo was taken just a few metres outside a very old cemetery at the exact spot where an acquaintance said they'd seen a large glowing object weeks earlier.
We went out around midnight with the sole purpose of trying to catch something like that on camera.
It was maybe just below freezing and pitch dark.
There was three of us with two cameras,
I took lots of photos with the flash, most were just pure black but, right after taking some photos, I would notice something white on the camera lcd screen which was pretty scary.
We sussed later that it was just our breath, but the breath in this photo looks like a classic ghost with face, body and arms.
This image is completely unedited apart from the text and I also have about another ten shots taken at the same time which also have white shapes from our breath.
The image was featured in the UK magazine "Take a break's Fate and fortune" in march 2009.

The light looked intriguing in the next room, so I grabbed my camera bag and went toward the light. As I moved through the doorway it seemed the light dimmed. I was having a bit of trouble making out shapes, or perhaps it was colors I was struggling to distinguish. Kneeling down, I focused my camera on a large window, recomposed the shot and snapped the shutter. When I checked the monitor to see the shot my heart skipped a beat. I had captured a ghost!

NGC 3242 is a stunning Planetary Nebula. In size and brightness, it is equal to the more famous, and more often observed, Ring Nebula, M57, in Lyra. NGC 3242 is also around the size and shape of Jupiter, thus its common name of the “Ghost of Jupiter”. Unfortunately, from where I live, the Ghost is low in the southern sky and its location not well marked with obvious nearby stars.
The Ghost is bright, and at low power, easily mistaken for a pale blue star. But NGC 3242 handles magnification well. There is no need for a nebula filter on this object. In the small 110mm refractor at around 100x the planetary nebula showed its slightly oval-shape and seemed to be hiding a couple of blurry stars. When the power was increased to 171x it became apparent (with some effort and time) that the pair of blurry stars were the bright ends of the inner ring of the planetary. I failed to find the central star and to connect the brighter ends of the inner ring together to make a complete ring. Still it was a pleasing deep sky object showing color and internal structure and well worth spending time with.

Often mistaken as the spirit of an ancient and benevolent dragon, the ghost dragon remains somewhat of a mystery. Reading the notes of the wizard Sam Hain, "The ghost dragon only shows up in the middle of the Fall, usually in conjunction with the bone dragon. My advice? Don't be afraid of no ghosts!"
Ghost Face's head lights up and he screams like a girl. Several kids commented on the screaming not making sense. The more expensive version looked much better and had quotes from the movie, authentic but not really scary unless your a character in the movie. There is an option for no audio, but I figured its would scare more people screaming like a girl than quiet.

Living in a Weymouth on the south coast of the UK, winter sees the town empty of holidaying people, everything slows down, life still goes on, at a much slower pace, Many of the hotels and holiday parks close for the winter, some offer special rates, others find creative ways to attract the older generation and those with young children to try and bridge the gap, before you know it summer is back, much of the town with a fresh lick of paint ready to try and recover from the winter blues.....
While they are gone I'll enjoy grabbing a shot of the harbour :-)
