Cheddar Gorge is a limestone gorge in the Mendip Hills near the village of Cheddar in Somerset. The gorge is the site of the Cheddar Show Caves where Britain's oldest complete skeleton, Cheddar Man, estimated to be over 9,000 year old, was found in 1903. Cheddar Gorge, including the caves and other attractions, has become a tourist destination.

On our last trip we caught the ferry over to the Isle of Wight - a place that I have wanted to see for so long. I was a little disappointed that the weather was not as nice as it could have been, but seeing The Needles was the highlight of the trip.

This is my entry for the 52 weeks of photos challenge.

My hand is slowly improving and I should be able to go out with the camera soon. Yesterday and today I have managed to leave the splint off without too much pain.

Week 13, 52 week challenge: pathway/road

The witching hour has been and gone here in Australia, but I would like to take the opportunity to wish all my friends in the North Happy Halloween from Down Under.

This is a juvenile Nyalla that we spotted as we were driving through Kruger National Park. Nyalla are impressive animals, especially with their yellow stockings and they walk seemingly on the tips of their hooves.

Another from our drives around Kruger - always something exciting to see.

It is another sunny but windy day here in Sydney today. The wind seemed to die down this morning, but is now back with a vengeance.

This is for my friends in the Northern Hemisphere who don't believe we have wild, cold weather here in Australia LOL. If you scroll down, you will see an article about the snow in Thredbo where the temp is supposed to be -20C.

In 7 days time we will be sitting here waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up and take us to the airport. I can't believe how fast the time has come around.

The ruins of Caisteal Maol Castle is one of the first views from across the Isle of Skye bridge.

We visited Peter's Dad yesterday. He is quite frail but still going strong at 96 years 7 months old. After we took him out for lunch and afternoon tea, we stopped at the wharf at Woy Woy to see the pelicans being fed and I took my new lens out for a trial.

I have developed Cellulitis in my lower left leg and have been advised to stay off my leg and keep it raised, so I am not able to sit at the computer for long. I have been put on two strong antibiotics and if they don't work soon, I may have to go into hospital on an IV antibiotic drip. I am hoping that it doesn't come to this so I am obeying the doctor's instructions.

I will catch up with everyone when I can.

I have decided to join Nina on her challenge to add a flower photo a day for 365 days.

I was actually going to start posting after my nursing duties had finished (and believe me, I make the WORST nurse), but I got sidetracked.

Mr.Killen introduced me to The Big Bang Theory and I ended up watching all episodes in the seven series back to back.

HELP!!!!! Save me from Dr.Sheldon Cooper!!!!!

Now I am having withdrawal symptoms and series 8 hasn't begun filming yet.

But I haven't stopped photographing because so far this Summer, it has been absolutely sensational and I have photographed so many sunrises I have lost count.

This was taken a couple of days ago on MY beach in Castlerock before the sun actually rose and I just love the intensity of the clouds on the horizon.

This morning I went over to PortRush (I have been alternating between Castlerock, PortStewart and PortRush so I get different scenery). I thought the sunrise two days ago was fantastic, but this morning's was spectacular.

Even had three dolphins putting on a show for me - whoooo hoooo!!!

Going to process my photos from this morning then I will try and do a catch up.

PS this one was shown on the BBC Northern Ireland Weather Report.

EXPLORED NO.190

5 sleeps to go until Santa comes. This is one of my old decorations that one of my children chose when they were little. It is porcelain.

This is my entry for the 52 in 2014 group - #42 chocolate. I bought these for the photo and although it was tempting, I wrapped it back up and I will save it for the grandchildren when they come over.

It is my birthday tomorrow (27th March) and I am to have an MRI under sedation of my pesky wrist again - the never ending saga. I could think of better things to do on my birthday LOL.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2014 - #22. Movement. I love watching these water birds run across the water - shows that you really can walk on water LOL. I did this with a bit of help with photoshop - thanks Artie for your instructions.

The giant is cut into the hillside above the village of Cerne Abbas near Dorchester in Dorset. The figure is over 180 feet high and his ' virility' is very obvious! During Roman times he was identified as Hercules and associated with a fertility cult, or Priapus Worship, revived by Emperor Commodus in the late 2nd century AD.

Until 1635 a maypole was set up near the giant and today 'courting couples' still make night-time pilgrimages up to the giant to make sure that their marriage will be blessed with children! Women it seems are supposed to roll over the giant's 'male appendage' to make sure that their fertility will be enhanced!!

What more can I say LOL.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2015 challenge - #46 umbrella. Today we need umbrellas as it has been bucketing down. I am not complaining as the gardens love it and it is a welcome relief after all the hot, humid weather we have been having. The children going back to school after the Christmas break may not be so happy though.

A tortoise that popped up it's head looking for food. This is another photo taken on my wanderings with Sim when we were in Hervey Bay.

Taken during a drive around Kruger National Park. It is always exciting to see the animals in the wild - something that everyone should try to do at least once in their lifetime. I can't wait to visit again.

Impala are in great abundance in the Game Parks, so it was surprising to see this lone Impala walking on the dirt road in Pilanesberg Game Park. Taken through the front window.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2015 Challenge - #2 - Intertwined.

It is a real Winter's day here in Sydney today - cold and wet. The gardens love the rain and I can stay indoors in the warm, so I am not complaining. I really hate our extreme Summer heat and always feel much better when it is cool, so I am one of the strange ones who enjoy Winter.

We are on our way home. We are in Canberra and apparently even though we are in the capital, the internet here is really bad. I cant get into half my sites.

This is my photo for the group 52 in 2014 - #34 Berry/berries. I was wondering what to do for this theme, but then my granddaughter came over with this little dessert - just right for the challenge. I only had my 180 mm macro on the camera and I couldn't get her completely in the photo, but I rather like the effect.

I have decided to join Nina on her challenge to add a flower photo a day for 365 days.

These are two of the Everlasting Daisies that are growing madly in my garden at the moment. They remind me of fried eggs LOL.

Some more of the Pelican photos with my new Canon 100-400 L series II lens. The second Pelican seems to have lost his head.

It looks like I will have to go into hospital to be treated with IV antibiotics for the Cellulitis. I saw the doctor this afternoon and he wanted me to go in today, but said that I could continue with the oral antibiotics until Monday if I really wanted to. It looks like it is spreading, so if there has been no change by tomorrow I may go in - the quicker I go in the faster I will be home.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2016 challenge - #22 - tree. Taken during our farm stay at Inverell.

It is 5 weeks today until we fly out to South Africa. We were so lucky on our last trip to see so many animals in Kruger and Pilanesberg and I hope we are as lucky this time. This big elephant crossed the road just in front of our car on our last trip.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2015 challenge - #32 Gate or Gateway. This is our side gate - it has lots of character LOL.

This is my photo for the group - 52 in 2014 - #19. A treat. I have been dieting, so this is a welcome treat LOL. Just a little lapse. Happy Easter everyone.

Another photo of a Paper Kite Butterfly that I saw at Stratford upon Avon Butterfly Park.

We have less than three weeks now until our holiday is over - it has flown by.

This is a stained glass window at the Bartholomew Dias museum in Mossel Bay in South Africa.

In 1488, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias (c. 1450-1500) became the first European mariner to round the southern tip of Africa, opening the way for a sea route from Europe to Asia. Dias’ ships rounded the perilous Cape of Good Hope and then sailed around Africa’s southernmost point, Cabo das Agulhas, to enter the waters of the Indian Ocean. Portugal and other European nations already had long-established trade ties to Asia, but the arduous overland route had been closed in the 1450s due to the Ottoman Empire’s conquest of the remnants of the Byzantine Empire. A major maritime victory for Portugal, Dias’ breakthrough opened the door to increased trade with India and other Asian powers. It also prompted Genoan explorer Christopher Columbus (1451-1506), then living in Portugal, to seek a new royal patron for a mission to establish his own sea route to the Far East.

We have arrived at my brother's house in Ocean Shores after an arduous trip along the "goat track" that they call the M1 - Pacific Highway that is the main highway from Sydney to the Queensland border. People from overseas must laugh when they travel along the road which is one way each way for a large distance and only two lanes each way in the good parts. They are working on the roads and in some spots we had to slow down to 40 klms per hour so a trip that should have taken around 5 hours, took us over 7 hours.

My brother is looking pretty good and it is hoped that he will be able to go into rehab in a week or so.

Taunton is the county town of Somerset, England. Taunton is a thriving, forward-looking town where modern life sits alongside relics of its dramatic past dating back to Saxon times.

This is the centre of my Hibiscus flower that is growing in my garden. As the weather cools down, the colour of the flower becomes darker and the flowers smaller. Soon they will be gone for the Winter.

My brother rang this morning and told me that the surgeon said he was not to put weight on his leg for 12 weeks. As he has no balance, he can't use crutches, so it will seem like forever to him. Apart from that, he is doing pretty well considering all the worry that we had before his operation.

Even though we are in Winter, there is still a few insects flying around.

Whenever we are in Scotland, we try and call in to visit Kirkcudbright in Scotland. This is where Peter's great, great grandparents came from (also from Fort William).

My first sighting of my favourite African animal. We spotted this fine specimen as we entered Addo Elephant Park.

This is the 3 cm nail that I went through the bottom of my foot on New Year's Eve. Finally after four days, I can walk around without much pain. I was worried about tetanus, but I am pretty sure that we had a tetanus shot two years ago before travelling to Africa. I haven't been able to get in touch with our doctor as he is away until Monday.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2014 group - #17. A weed.

I was going to post this yesterday but my *%@!! narcolepsy got in the way which didn't leave me a happy camper when I finally woke up.

I am sooooo, so lucky to have the beach only 30 seconds drive away and I only have to look out the living room window to see if the sunrise is going to be any good.

I was going to post a sunrise shot but I really really liked this photo so the sunrise is going to have to wait.

I like it because its very simple, just some weeds and grasses on the beach but the raindrops glistening in the sunshine make those gorgeous liquid diamonds I so love.

We are expecting Shane's cousin in a couple of hours. He is staying with us as he just recently had an operation on a brain tumour and we didn't want him living alone in this vulnerable time post op.

MMMMMM a narcoleptic Lupus sufferer doesn't make a very good nurse but I can keep him amused.

I think this is a baby giraffe which was laying down as it's mother watched over.

These are some more photos from our visit to the Sydney Aquarium during the school holidays. It was difficult to take these photos as there were so many people around the tank looking at these beautiful animals.

When we stopped for lunch at the Pilanesberg Centre, the monkeys hang around waiting for food. The waitress gave us a spray bottle to scare them away. We had our last day in Pilanesberg today and tomorrow we stay the night at Hartbeespoort before heading to Marloth Park for 10 days. Marloth Park is near Kruger National Park and we will be driving into the park each day.

I spotted this gull having a wonderful time in the water at Woy Woy on the Central Coast.

We spotted this Warthog as we were driving out of the park. The sun was setting and for once the animal was on the right side of the road so I didn't have to shoot into the sun.

I have never seen this rich coloured Hebe before, only pink and purple.

I stayed over at my daughter's place last night - catch up with you all later.

My daughter welcomed my new doggie grandson into their family yesterday - isn't he just the cutest little fellow?? They had to say goodbye to their Papillon a few weeks ago. He was almost 16 and Shiloh (the Whippet) was lost without his friend. He loves his new little brother and apparently only sleeps when the puppy sleeps. They will be great mates.
