Helena, MT This is what I imagine when someone tells me to picture the most peaceful thing I can think of.
Can it be, that the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland is also the shortest? The spectacular blue water flowing over the luminous black ground is other-worldly. Every time the water's path collides with itself, it creates these mesmerizing white waves that frame the bend.
This lagoon is a very special place. Water from the sea fills an inlet where it meets water and ice chucks from a melting glacier. The pieces of ice that float in this lagoon are colorful and interesting. They come to life when the sun shines though them.
Le mie sono fotografie che potrebbero fare tutti. Io sono un uomo qualunque che va in giro e fissa il riflesso dello spettacolo della strada.

Sprague Lake to the West. There is a lot to love about this little lake in RMNP. It has great reflections and great views to the east and west. Once I finished shooting sunrise to the east, I just turned around and caught alpenglow on the mountains to the west.
Iceland 2018 - I returned from my Iceland adventure with a great group of photog friends last night. Bone tired, but really happy. We had very good conditions throughout the trip. Only a couple days with challenging weather, but we still got great shots even on those days.
The northern lights were out six nights. A couple nights they were incredibly bright and active under clear skies.
On this particular night we started aurora photography at Skogasfoss. Not my favorite waterfall. I looks kinda flat to me. I had hoped to shoot the aurora with a lighthouse, so on the way back to the cottage Matt Payne found this great lighthouse using Gaia. Thank you Matt.
The lights were moving and this was a 1 second exposure. I have no idea why the light beams are frozen in the pictures. ?
Iceland Adventure - The mountains on the east side of Iceland are incredible. There is an endless row of towering crag peaks amid pyramid skyscrapers. Any nameless spire in the range would be a centerpiece in our San Juans.
When low clouds framed this particular peak under a sliver moon, I asked Matt to stand on this ridge to add our sense of awe and adventure to the scene. Matt's idea to add his backpack really set the photo in motion.
I am gearing up for my return trip to Iceland next week. Hoping for good weather and some auroras. As part of my planning, I was reviewing images from my 2016 trip and came across this one that I never processed before.
This is what Sprague Lake looked like on December 30, 2017. It was completely covered with snow. This small area didn't have any ice yet because it was the mouth of a small stream feeding into the lake. Strong winds cleared all the snow off, exposing the ice for the next morning.
Tech Tip: The best way to ensure snow will be white in your images is to take an overall exposure reading, then over expose +.03. The camera see bright whites like snow and slightly under exposes it. This just compensates.
