"Every so often a disappearance is in order. A vanishing. A checking out. An indeterminate period of unavailability." John A Murray, Colorado naturalist
I have been at a cabin north of here for the better part of the last week. I love it there. More to come...
This little church sits near a sea cliff on the west side of Iceland. To me, the black color and isolation always made it look a little foreboding. The day we stopped by, the clouds and light added to the mysterious nature.
Zooming in to the point where Burarfoss converges gives a completely different perspective on this beautiful waterfall. The black rocks contrasting with the blue/white water is striking.
Lake Powell is especially beautiful just after sunset. The colors become deep and rich. The effect only lasts for a few minutes though.
Lars and I took turns at the point for our American Photo Treks workshop at Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend. The inversion and sunset light created a beautiful, surreal scene.
We got a little color behind the spiers last night. Garden of the Gods is even more beautiful with a little snow on the rocks.
This is my eight image of my Hong Kong collection.
Lamma island is the third largest island that makes up Hong Kong. It's a beautifully peaceful area of Hong Kong that offers hidden beaches, incredible walks and long walks without seeing anyone. There are two major towns, one North and one South which are walkable wiithin an hour of each other.
This shot was taken on the Northern part of the island showing off its pier and fishing ships.

Alpenglow at Bear Lake - I just returned from a fun and active weekend at Rocky Mountain National Park with Kay. We had to get up real early to see alpenglow at Bear Lake, but it was so worth it. That beautiful warm, red glow on the peaks is one of nature's best shows.
Have a great week!
The inspiration for this monochrome vignette was the recently released LEGO set 40516 (Everyone is awesome).
There are so many great compositions from this area. Getting here early enough to see the alpenglow made it really special.
There isn't anything easy about photographing wildflowers at American Basin. It's a tough 4WD journey to get there. This year it's a long hike to the basin over snow fields and rocky terrain and the most colorful flowers are on a steep slope.
I think the effort is worth it though. Seeing these beautiful peaks with all these colorful wildflowers in the foreground is quite an experience.
I just returned from a very fun photo adventure in Oregon with some great photos. I had a great time and captured some images that I can't wait to process.
This was one of the first locations.
I love wet sand reflections. We don't get many opportunities for these in Colorado, so I was really enjoying photographing these.
Three Brothers in Winter - Another of my favorite scene's from this February's trip to Yosemite.
I really love this park.
I recently watched a Ken Burns documentary about our National Parks. He noted the unique idea that these parks belong to all of us. We all have the opportunity to experience them and all have the responsibility to preserve them.
We saw this scene as we were scouting locations for night shots. I knew it wasn't going to last long, so I was frantically driving around to find a pull out. When we finally got parked, I ran to the edge of the canyon and fired off one round of bracketed exposures.
I actually thought I had missed it because when I looked up from my camera, a lot of the rainbow had faded. Luckily, the brackets did their job and I caught the colors just before they faded away.
I had a great time this past fours day at Mount Rainier National Park with Kay and Randy. This is a very impressive mountain. The inversion and clouds really cooperated for this shot.
Wildflower Trail - The explosion of wildflowers in Crested Butte was so much fun to experience. This path had a new beautiful scene around every curve and over ever hill.
I felt bad for this duck, it was just trying to be part of the group but every time it tried to join the group, this duck chased it away

I wish this mountain was close by. If it was, I'm sure I could return to it over and over again and never get tired of photographing it. New angles, new days, new clouds, new light, new seasons... This is one landscape that I would never tire of.
This mountain is iconic. A tall cone rising in the middle of water with waterfalls leading to it. It has become a photography mecca of sorts. This particular morning I was just following the color when I saw this photographer capturing the reflection. Thank you Daniel for letting me take this picture and share it.
Mt Moran and the Wildflowers - We had a great time at our summer workshop in Grand Teton National Park. Very fun group of guests. The wildflowers were not abundant, but we did find some compositions. Like this little bush I found while capturing alpenglow on Mount Moran.
We experienced so many
amazing auroras while we were in Iceland earlier this year. I took so many images I will probably be processing new ones for months to come.
Fresh snow in the Garden of the Gods is always special. I captured this just prior to sunrise. All the stars disappeared, but I could still see a sliver of the moon.

We only had color to the right of the mountain at sunrise and the reflection only lasted a few minutes.
Mills Lake - After catching alpenglow at the trailhead, Kay and I hiked to Mills Lake. We got there just in time for a beautiful reflection and some nice soft light. About 15 minutes after we arrived the sun emerged from the clouds and a breeze erased the reflection.
I love all the benefits of starting the day early, but Kay and I are working on plans to be at the higher lakes even earlier and staying later.
