I don't usually post people, but this photo is special to me. My MIL is a very wonderful person and she turned 90 a few days ago. In this photo, she is with her first great grandchild. I caught this special moment as I turned around and almost missed it.
Here's another art print of the Fractal Forest at a Mojave Desert dry lake. Generations of channels can be seen disappearing into the gypsite canvas.
I took the photo on the left of my daughter in 1990. The photo on the right is her daughter, my granddaughter, this summer 2023. The time in between... where did it all go?

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

I was asked to create a family portrait for my niece. It includes 2 grandsons, grandfather and late great grandfather. Carbothello Pastel pencils on 20 x 30 white Pastelmat. Reference photos used with and portrait posting posted with owner’s permission.
The grandkids got to meet their great grandfather today for only the second time. So we did another four generation shot and then we all got in the next shot. Ken was very excited to see them down at his place in the woods.

The next generation is now on the wing! A trip to Bempton on Thursday and the first time I have seen a juvenile Kittiwake flying! Aren’t they gorgeous! Sadly Kittiwakes are on the red list, the highest conservation priority - numbers have declined by 40% since the 1970s. So sights like this are to be treasured. Along with better managed fishing of sandeels, every little thing we can do to help slow/reduce climate change will help these beautiful members of the gull family, along with many, many other species.

The 11th Generation of Ford’s Thunderbird was offered during model years 2002-2005.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Thunderbird_(eleventh_generation)
It was styled to be reminiscent of the First Generation of Model years 1955-1957. I think that the connection is lost with the appearance of the headlights and the grille. The original headlights stand and lean forward, creating an appearance of being poised to jump forward. The headlights on the newer version lean backward to create a more passive appearance. The grille on the newer model projects far forward so that the created visage resembles one of being startled and bewildered.

My grandfather Justus stands in the background with this work shirt still on, which says so much about the man.
Seated are my great-grandparents, James and Martha Justus. While my grandfather passed away before I was born, I did have the pleasure of knowing both of my great-grandparents, although briefly.
They were married in September of 1900, and were married for 73 years until Martha passed away at the age of 88 years old.
This photo was taken by my mother (she thinks) in the early 1960s at the Justus home.. which still stands today, although it has seen some damage recently.
It was exciting to see this juvenile Red bellied Woodpecker show up the other day, checking out the seed-leg feeder. I can only guess mom and/or dad showed him where to come for some good eatin' in the neighborhood. LOL!
Here's hoping to more Red bellies in the future, and that they will also show their young where some of the best buffet dining can be found.

Fall colors in Mono County yesterday.
The fall colors this year have been somewhat disorderly, with early-turning trees that have already dropped leaves mixed with remaining green trees and peaking oranges and yellows. But that's more normal than not. Nature is inherently chaotic; it doesn't follow predictions, our desire for order. That's part of the adventure and reward of nature photography: the capacity for what you discover to exceed your preconceived expectations.
