Gel print, acrylics, pens, 5x7"

Mixed printmaking technique: block print and gelli plate.

I *think* what I did here was:

- Cut into a rubber "linoleum" block.

- Ink the gelli plate

- Use the block to lift ink off the gelli plate

- Print the gelli plate

That means the final image is in the same "direction" as the cut block.

About 4 X 5 block on 5X7 gelli.

The imagery is actually derived from the plant shadow pieces...

I'm in Roben-Marie Smith's workshop: Ripped and Stitched. This is the cover. I don't have mat board and fabric so I used some strips that are printed with the Gelli Plate on a cereal box.

Monoprint with acrylic and hand-carved Linocut block print

Gelli monoprint/monotype on paper (I believe the ones made with stencils are monoprints, since I can use the stencil to pull multiples, while the ones where I painted directly on the plate are monotypes because there is only one full print, and maybe a ghost print.)

The abstract pieces are part of my Sun Dances series derived from plant shadows; they were made by arranging paper 'left over' after cutting out plant shapes (eg the shapes of the holes in the leaves)

5 X 7 inches (printed area)

A Gelli plate is a commerically made gelatin-type plate for monoprint/monotyping that makes it very very easy to pull prints without a press. I got one in January of last year and had loads of fun playing with different techniques. You can google for more info on Gelli printing, this link looks pretty good: keetonsonline.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/all-about-gelli-pl...

5x7 Mixed Media monoprint, linocut, ink, acrylic and magic on Paper.

Acrylic gouache gel plate monotype.

I’ve been busy the last few days, but finally got around to doing another monotype on a gel plate. This one is done on a new 5x7 plate. I started with a sketch done on tracing paper with a blue pastel pencil. I transferred the pencil drawing to the plate to use as a guide. You can still see some of it on the yellow fish. I then worked in layers working from foreground to background. I started with black, then blue and yellow, then green, then orange, gray, and red, then the white bubbles, and finally the light blue and white background. I painted each layer with a small round brush and added the final background layer using a small brayer. I waited for each layer to dry before adding the next layer. After everything dried, I brushed on a final layer of Golden Fluid Matte Medium, laid down the paper, weighted it with books, waited 30 minutes, and pulled the print. I’ve got the process down now. I’m using acrylic gouache which is opaque, has a matte finish, and is not water soluble once it dries.

Fabriano Hot Press 140 lbs 300 g/m2 8x10 inch ( 20.3x25.4 cm) watercolor paper, Gel Press gel printing plate, Turner Acryla Gouache, Golden Titanium White Fluid acrylic, and Golden Fluid Matte Medium. Image is 5x7 inches (12.7x17.8 cm).

My first giraffe collage. After some days at the hospital and a lot of days trying to rest, I'm really late in both my classes, "2013 Year of the Giraffe" and "Mermaid Circus"... And I have taken a third one, but since it's only 2 weeks... hehehehe... Background is a monoprint with a Gelli Plate and the collage is made with some scrap paper I used to clean my utensils! :)
