Tempera Paint stick gel plate monotype.

A quick experiment to see if tempera paint sticks work on a gel plate. Image is about 6x3.5 inches (15x8 cm).

Mixed Media - monoprint, linocut, ink, acrylic and curiosity

Acrylic gel plate monotype with added paint.

Once I’m set up, these go pretty fast. Same process as the last one. Different color choices. After printing from the gel plate, I went back in with a small brush and added some glazes and detail while the paint was still wet on the palette.

Fabriano Hot Press watercolor paper, Holbein Acryla Gouache, 1/2 inch angle brush. Image is about 4x4 inches (10x10 cm).

Mixed printmaking technique: block print and gelli plate.

I *think* what I did here was:

- Cut into a rubber "linoleum" block.

- Ink the gelli plate

- Use the block to lift ink off the gelli plate

- Print the gelli plate

That means the final image is in the same "direction" as the cut block.

About 4 X 5 block on 5X7 gelli.

The imagery is actually derived from the plant shadow pieces...

A Gelli plate is a commerically made gelatin-type plate for monoprint/monotyping that makes it very very easy to pull prints without a press. I got one in January of 2016 and had loads of fun playing with different techniques. Monotype with acrylic on vintage cook book page

Here are a few small art panels I made by watering down acrylic paint and then using a brush to paint it on the Gelli Plate and pulling off the print on white, unlined index cards. Once dry, I stamped the panels with black permanent ink.

Gelli botanic monotypes. I love that they approach the look and feeling of old daguerrotypes - but in color.

These were made by ink the plate, pressing the botanical onto the plate and then either lifting the botanical - or not - before printing. The "composites" are two separate prints (foreground/background of same botanical in same position) that were combined digitally.

challenge gelliplate

5X7 Monoprint on vintage cookbook page.

Some monoprints I made with the Gelli Plate this past weekend. Most will be used as backgrounds for my art journal.

I started off with Cathy’s suggestion to paint some pages, so I used up some gouache on my palette from a previous session. While I was waiting for them to dry, I started experimenting with the Gelli Plate… I had been wanting to try it with soft pastels and it was quite fun but as a result of experimenting I didn’t finish the day with any finished work.
