My first shot at bringing out my sci-fi geekdom via Photoshop. Only outside recourses used were a photo of clouds and a photo of a cement wall. I will post the full-res version on localjerk.com.

I love the variety of costumes possible even within just the Doctor Who/Torchwood universe.

Every year I go to "Paw*Con". It's not a real, proper convention, though; my friends and I started calling it that because, in the furry fandom, gatherings of furries tend to be "meets", "circles", or "cons". Plus, it only became "Paw*Con" when we moved it from being hosted at Rozberk's place (where we called the gathering of Macro/MIcro fans, "Roz*Con") to Milwaukee where Geemo, Seph, and Quinn live.

I've been going every year since 2001. Each year I cook for my friends, we hang out, play games, see movies, and go to restaurants all while enjoying each other's company. Seeing as the first time we did this ended just days before my father passed away, this annual gathering has taken on a larger meaning for me than (probably) most others in attendance. For me, it's an annual reminder of my "family of choice": my closest friends, no matter how far apart we are.

Here's the full, final meal I prepared for my friends ... a plateful of pasta and Italian side dishes. Whole wheat spaghetti, roasted red pepper and tomato marinara sauce, sauteed peppers & onions, butter-sauteed mushrooms, fennel/cous-cous salad, and, uh, I think that's about it. There was bread, too, but it can't be seen in this photo.

Inspiration struck me last night after posting my RenFaire picture. Geekshots. A trifecta of proof of my geekdom. A hat trick of reasons some people never get laid. In that vein, here it is, the biggie. Role-Playing. Oh yes, I role-played. I went a step further, I Live Action role played. LARP'd my little heart out for three and a half years in college playing Vampire the Masquerade. I didn't think I was all that good at it, until one day I turned around and my character was the strongest member of her clan in the city. THAT was uncomfortable.

This shot was taken on one of my favorite nights of gaming. It was a two-day Halloween event, and my friends Becky and Brian were going to be in town (they are bookending myself and Jason). For the second night's masquerade game, I initially got the idea to make up a bunch of one-night, weak-ass characters. They were all going to be Malkavians(the batshit crazy clan) who thought they were famous fictional pirates. With my friend being one of the people in charge of that night, the plan morphed into, "why not we make rather powerful non-playing characters that really are pirates, and use them to spice up the night?" I found out later my friend got into some trouble due to the plan even though as promised, they only existed for one night. But what a night! We had such a good time, The Gypsy Captain, the growling, dreadlocked first mate, the haughty bitch with the talent for swords and the seductive nut with multiple personalities (that'd be ME). Completely by accident, we'd convinced people we were evil and there to wreak havoc, and while we were on our mission we spread panic and confusion wherever we went. It was insanely fun, and a nice grace note to the end of my role-playing days, as I graduated the next semester.

This night is well-remembered by others as well, but for different reasons. I will give you a hint, there are two of them and they rather commanded everyone's attention when I walked in. :P

Every year, I cook for my friends. In the past, I've done turkey dinner and I've done fritatas. This year, I did a pasta buffet. Here you can see the appetizer platter: water crackers with three types of cheese (Dubliner, Muenster, and Swiss), stuffed olives (feta-stuffed and garlic-stuffed), and hard salami (sopresetta).

I did ask the parents ahead of time, if they minded a gift that implied their child was genetically doomed to geekdom...
