A rain gauge is all that is left of my great uncle house and land. All around there are now concrete walls and house developments. My great uncle and later his son used to record the readings for the metereological service. People doesn't even know nowadays what is this strange thing on the top of a concrete wall.
On the Piaseczno narrow gauge railway you can order your own private train ride, no matter if you are just a normal person (in the sense of a formal entity) or a company. Thanks to some contacts I have at the railway, I got informed that a school chartered a short train for one of the days which I had free, so I decided to snap a quick picture. The railway gets a lot of simmilar orders, because it is located directly on the scenic suburbs of Warsaw.
The uniquely painted Lxd2-454 is passing the passenger stop Zalesie Dolne with a school charter train to Tarczyn, composed of two coaches. The stop, barely visible in the background, has a very old and richly decorated wooden structure and is a historical building protected by law.

Seen through the bars of a fence on the Ruislip Lido Railway, this Squirrel is obviously not a rail safe squirrel. His attention was caught by the works train coming towards him loaded with Christmas lights and decorations that were being put out trackside.

Why is one leaf in some feeler gauges brass?
The brass gauges had two uses, both cases because the gauges had to be non-magnetic. On small engines, and many years ago on larger engines, the spark was created by magnetos which contained strong magnets. You couldn't check clearances in the magnetos with a steel gauge it would stick and probably bend if you tried.
The Rhaetian Railway still transports a good amount of freight. One of their daily (actually twice a day, I think) freight services is the Valser water train from Ilanz, where the water is loaded from trucks onto the train, to Chur. Earlier this year they got these shiny new intermodal containers, which are a nice change from the older sliding wall cars, some of which you can see at the end of the train. The train is hauled by a nowadays rare Ge 6/6 II, which are close to the end of their lives (702 is 62 years old), and has just passed Versam-Safien station in the Rhine gorge (Ruinaulta).

Ex Dinorwic quarry Hunslet Dolbadarn at penllyn is 101 years old,this was the old trackbed of the dinorwic quarry padarn railway,now it a tourist line since July 1971,and where i used to drive steam locomotives for 44 years!

USG Railway MLW/Bombardier DL-535EW #112 shoves the loaded water car down the 3' narrow gauge line from Plaster City, Ca, to the limestone quarry north of town. The railway transports limestone from the quarry to the USG plant and also supplements the quarry's water supply.

I have learned so much about processing images since this was taken! All I did really is change blend modes though!
\I rarely take HDR any more as my camera now has so much latitude. Ten GB before to 36 GB now!

This is the outfall / overflow / spillway from Bottoms Reservoir in Tintwistle. This outfall is also the head of the river Etherow which I guess is the river that was dammed to create Bottoms Reservoir and other reservoirs in the Woodhead Valley. I’m not quite sure what all the stonework is designed to achieve but it is a tribute to Victorian design and construction.
Well, you live and learn! A quick look on Wikipedia reveals that the reservoir was obliged to release 10 million gallons of water each day for the benefit of water powered mills downstream. The circular stone construction is a gauging basin. Now I’ve just got to find out how that works.
