This iconic site is a must for visitors to Kyoto, Japan. And I was early enough to avoid the normal crowds that date:-)
Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社) is the head shrine of Inari, located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. The shrine sits at the base of a mountain also named Inari which is 233 metres above sea level, and includes trails up the mountain to many smaller shrines which span 4 kilometers and takes approximately 2 hours to walk up. It is reachable by the path lined with thousands of vermilion Torii gates, known as Senbon Torii 千鳥居, like these shown in the photo. These Torii gates are donations by individuals and companies, and the donator's name and the date of the donation are inscribed on each gate. The cost starts around 400,000 yen for a small sized gate and increases to over one million yen for a large gate. [Source: Japan Guide]

Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge took a total of 1,604 days or a little over 4 years and 4 1/2 months. Work began on January 5, 1933, and the Bridge opened to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937. It is the most photographed bridge in the world and it was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The bridge is constantly being painted to maintain its vibrancy. Its International Orange color is made by Sherwin Williams and it was chosen because it blends well with the span's natural setting. The bridge carries about 112,000 vehicles per day according to the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District and in a single month, the bridge normally makes close to $1.9M in revenue.

This one is either a gate, or hurdle or fence, but whatever it is, I haven't seen one like this before. It's in Hooe, Sussex.
Torres de Serranos or Porta de Serrans
Gate built in the late 14th century that formed part of an ancient city wall* [fortification for a defensive purpose] in the old city of Valencia, Spain. It is a historic landmark and monument.

An overcast sky casts a dull light over its surroundings, but the Cloud Gate sculpture glows no matter what.
Gwanghwamun Gate is the main and largest gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul, first constructed in 1395. It was constructed as the main gate to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the main and most important royal palace during the Joseon Dynasty.
During the 1592 Japanese invasion, it was destroyed by fire and left in ruins for over 250 years.
Concrete Gwanghwamun with the Japanese Governor General Building, which stood until 1996.
Gwanghwamun was reconstructed in 1867 along with the rest of Gyeongbokgung Palace by the order of regent Daewongun during the reign of Emperor Gojong. The gate stood until 1926, when the Japanese government had it deconstructed and moved it just to the southeast of the current location of the National Folk Museum of Korea to make way for the massive Japanese Governor General Building.
The Korean War completely destroyed the wooden structure of Gwanghwamun, and its stone base lay in complete disrepair and neglect. In 1968, during Park Chung-hee's administration, the stone base was again relocated in front of the Japanese Governor General Building. The destroyed wooden structure was rebuilt in concrete, while the sign on Gwanghwamun was written in hangul by Park himself. Gwanghwamun remained as a concrete gate until late 2006
The gronk was parking nicely outside the depot. Even more handy was the entering car and slowish closing gates offering a clear view.
I live down there in the bluish area. This is just one of a number of locations where the dogs and I walk

One of my last photos of the evening last night in the old industrial parts of Dublin. I was keen to photograph the old streets around the Guinness Brewery at St James' Gate and finally found this classic street. Had to wait until very late before it became dark enough but certainly worth it!
The place I wanted to photograph the Golden Gate bridge from (Baker beach) was closed due to construction on the day I went to photograph it. So I had to go to one of the most touristy spots to photograph the bridge, because it was my last day in the city, and the sun was setting...

Unfortunately, on our tour in September 2024, the park was mostly closed. The passage towards Banff was possible, so I could only create a few shots from the gate to Jasper. Here you can see the view towards Roche Ronde from the Athabasca River, unfortunately the clouds hang very deep, so that you see little of it

Entrance to the beautiful Val Morteratsch through this captivating gate, uploaded on a day when I really long to see the sun and basking in sun-filled memories seems the only option to do so.
A gate leading to nowhere. Eyjafjörður, N-Iceland.
I dont know if there was ever a house there or why this gate is there.
Perhaps an entrance into another dimension?

This shot was taken at Presidio,CA right below the Golden Gate Bridge about an 1/8 of a second before getting sprayed then soaked up to the ankle in water. Having a rain-jacket draped over the camera helped... a bit. It's shortly after dawn, but the light never really hit the bridge.
This shot was inspired by Patrick Smith... If you like this image at all, go check out his stuff its really amazing and he is extremely helpful in his posts!
On that note, if you do go down to this spot when the surf is 10-20ft at high tide consider bringing the following items I neglected to bring: Shorts, water shoes, towel.
