Heres the finished decking. It needs painting as you can see the access hole where I have used fence paint to seal the ends of the cut timbers. Turned out to be a lot easier than I expected to do decking.

We put a spring top dressing of home-made compost, farm manure, and peat free mulch on our rhubarb. We hope to put custard on it later.

Some homes being erected in the Lower Ninth ward are using the most advanced technologies including energy saving methods and energy production technologies. Buildings such as this one must be elevated to a defined height based on new codes introduced following the Katrina disaster. A number of different architects have come up with some pretty interesting designs.

Thom Pepper and his group of volunteers from around the world have operated in the Lower Ninth Ward since the destructive days of Hurricane Katrina 5 years ago providing counseling, advice, guidance and support to the on-going relief efforts in that area.

Speaking to Thom, he is proud of his organization' s achievements so far and the work of the 20,000+ volunteers who have provided assistance and gained personal hands-on experience as they have moved through the demolition and clean-up stages into the now active rebuilding and education phase of their on-site efforts.

Rather than having rainwater flow off into the street sewers, Common Ground Relief are advocating the installation of Biocells incorporating a sunken pond-like structure in somewhere in the yard. These ponds will then experience periods of wet and dry based on the amount of rainfall. Planted with native Louisiana vegetation such as rushes and irises, the cells will both reduce the load on the sewer system as well as provide a focal point for moisture loving flowers and plant-like while at the same time reduce the need for heavy-maintenance lawns.

18 foot high carrara marble fountain in an octagonal basin at the centre of the reconstructed Kenilworth Elizabethan Garden. The gardens have been an extensive project for English Heritage. Based on archaeological evidence and historical documents, they are an accurate representation of the gardens built by Robert Dudley to impress Elizabeth I during her visit to Kenilworth in 1575.

The fountain features several references to water gods, including Triton and Neptune.

New Construction - Lower Ninth Ward - New Orleans. Many of the new homes incorporate solar panels necessitating a design that allows the roof-top panels to face the sun for the greatest period of time. In other instances, non-solar solutions are chosen.

This is a close up of what I believe will become strawberries. I admit, I am not much of a gardener, and I spent a lot of time taking pictures and following orders rather than absorbing the information given while helping in a garden this weekend. It was a fun team buliding experience, and I got lots of cool shots!
