Photos taken at the North York Centennial Centre on July 9th, 2009, during the Toronto garbage strike. One of the temporary garbage drop-off points is in the parking lot behind the arena. When I drove by today at about 1:30, it looked as if the union picketers had been placing, or having people place, trash around the entrance to the local library and in view of Finch Avenue.
This was the scene at about 6pm, when I returned home: A community library with piles of garbage around the entrance, passing drivers and picketers yelling at each other, police hanging about to keep the peace, and a temporary garbage drop-off site that was now closed. Perhaps the most interesting bit, the fenced off area for garbage, behind the arena, is by no means full. Seems to me like the union is up to no good here.
Dumpsters, or piles of garbage. Which is better? The historic downtown mall seems to like bags. Animals often get in to the bags that sit overnight. I guess this is good for the local rat population.
A medium sized can. Garbage man emptied it by hand instead of using the mechanical lift. He wasn't very careful and dropped plastic bags on the street. He left them there.

More of the human cockroaches. In this area of Shanghai, garbage bins are placed in the rear of bldgs, which are then collected and dumped into alleys. People like this guy shown then pick thru the garbage. This guy was picking anything that had meat on it, and placing it onto a plate. I did not ask him why: and I hope not for human consumption. But others re-use wasted cooking oil for human consumption, so one cannot be sure how this guy re-used the wasted meats. 2011
A great shame on the Indonesian authorities is that they do not protect areas of natural beauty. The Gunung Rinjani trail is littered with garbage, human waste, and toilet paper.
If you order food on the train, the meal comes with a complimentary garbage bag. The Japanese like things tidy. At least publicly. This was taken while on the Narita Limted Express between Narita airport and Tokyo.

Plastic garbage in the wild! In this case on one of our favorite beaches. Although this particular meat tray isn't one of ours, we do produce the exact same model.

This woman was collecting garbage in a rural area just outside of Dalian, China. I was stunned at how much a person her age and size could carry.....both buckets were also full.
