my son, when he first saw one of these AT-ATs, called it a garbage truck, and the name stuck. He just got one for his birthday (and it's really cool!) and it's forever the 'garbage truck', it's such a better name. Sketched in blue micron just now, in my old wh smith sketchbook (long time since i sketched in there...)

Do you remember the Garbage Gobbler? Created in the 1950s and placed across the province in B.C. Parks and at points along BC highways in order to “Keep Beautiful British Columbia, Clean and Beautiful,” Garbage Gobblers were a truly cool piece of transportation history. Sadly, Garbage Gobblers proved to be as popular with bears as they were with people and eventually they had to be replaced in favour of bear proof cans (which were not as artsy, but much more practical). Even though Garbage Gobblers disappeared from BC roadways, our love for them lives on in treasured family road trip photos and in retrospective discussions of days gone by. (Heck, the gobbler was so loved – he even has his own Facebook page!)
Well, he’s baaaaack. (And he’s hungry!)
We are thrilled to announce that the Garbage Gobbler has been re-imagined and re-introduced to a handful of rest areas across the province as part of our Rest Area Improvement Program.

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #42 - Beginning With The Letter G" "Thoroughly Abstract Thursday"
This is part of a pile of garbage - mainly made up of netting and ropes - that I saw on the beach at Kuta, Thailand. I don't know whether it had washed up a a big clump or if people had collected it and put it all in one spot. It was all tangled so I am assuming the former but it does seem rather strange.
I've just realised tonight that I have been behind with the challenges all week. Sorry!

I spent the day filling the big truck with garbage and dumping it here. Feels good to have cleaned up the yard a bit, but there is so much more to do! Dealing with this kind of crap often makes me a lil angry and tense. Sure could use a massage right about now, sore muscles. It's time to relax!
6 January 2012. On a walk along the towpath of the River Lee we were nearing Tottenham Lock - and our destination, the Ferry Boat Inn pub.
Why was there a barge covered in rubbish moored near the Lock keeper's house? Click here to find out.
