The morning after..

Heart On Black

I was in New Orleans for business and had gone the night before to dinner & to see the famous "Bourbon Street". It lived up to it's reputation, lol...as I was getting ready for bed I was thinking about all the people & mess (beads, garbage) I saw on the street. I wondered what it would look like the morning after..so, I got up at 6 am (didn't sleep much, excited wondering, lol) and wandered over there before my 8 am meetings. I got there at 6:35, but it took almost 10 minutes for my lens to defog and I was able to shoot..lol (I did try to shoot anyway - no dice) My lens wasn't completely fog free here but I was missing the best...

As most things it looked a lot different in the light of day!

The truck had jet hoses and two guys (one on each side) that blew the trash into the middle of the street and then a big sweeper truck sucked it all up...

It was sooooo humid all the windows were fogged, someone (staff I guess) drew the heart in the resturant window. 2nd Photo - It made me think of Adri ( <---there ) and this beautiful shot she took somewhat along these lines...

Be well my friends...the party is not over yet, not by a long shot! lol

Cedar City, UT

12/27/16

On Christmas Eve Cedar City was hit with a major snowstorm, and 3 days afterwards you could still find snow everywhere. The day started out at 8 degrees and my first mission was to find John from M&C Sanitation. This past Summer I found John in the spare STS ex Bakersfield truck (www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq136k4jJ_A&t=21s). On this day, I found John in his everyday truck which is a 2009 diesel Autocar Pendpac. The Pendpac was great, it had a nice roar and there was plenty of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The scenery was amazing too, certainly something you rarely see in Southern California.

I noticed several different aspects about collecting trash in the snow. The roads are incredibly slippery so you must drive slow with no abrupt turns. I also found out that it is incredibly hard to move dumpers because they can get frozen to the ground. The gates in front of dumpers can also freeze and the only way you might be able to open the gate is with a hammer. Finally, the trash in the dumpster that is touching the bottom and sides of the dumpster sticks to the dumpster and will not fall in the hopper.

If you pay close attention, you will see a brief clip of the Mosdell Sanitation Peterbilt Leach Rear Loader that Trashman242 filmed 10 years ago.

Thank you so much John, you are certainly a professional driver and M&C Sanitation is lucky to have you. I had a blast following you around in the snow and I hope you enjoy these pictures like you did the first set of pictures. You did a great job driving and operating the Pendpac in these tough weather conditions.

WOW, dissatisfied with the Heil 7000 arm, modified all of their ASL's with a Pendpac arm. The perks to doing this makes maintance on all the trucks much easier with them all having the same arm.

The modernization of the lifestyle of city dwellers is accompanied by a significant increase in the volume of waste produced by families, just as it is becoming more challenging to dump it in empty spaces. The municipality has been setting up waste drop-off points for around twenty years, but they quickly become saturated. The voluntary sector has taken the initiative of setting up door-to-door collection systems, thus enabling people in highly vulnerable situations to have jobs, most of whom are women. Initially, the collection was done with donkey-driven carts but with the disadvantage of slow movement accentuated by the weight of the loads. Motorized tricycles imported from China have emerged as a solution and currently constitute the primary means of transport used with the advantage of their speed. Waste collection is also accompanied by establishing numerous recycling units that help recover waste (metal, plastic, plants, etc.).

Garbage @ Teatro Diana

not meaning a bad tv station :)

it is called: VAM-kanaal

the channel was meant for garbage transportation

the channels are dug by hand, with shovel and wheelbarrow, about 2,5m deep, as a kind of labor project...

(sometimes you cycle around and don't know what you are looking at :)

See, this is why I don't get asked to shoot weddings.

When you get tens of thousands of people in a small area for a brief time, you need some public service equipment. I leave it to my friends who enjoy such photos to properly identify make and model of this very necessary vehicle.

Decisions to be made!

Partner, would you rather have a cute little snail or a garbage can with a lid? (The first wise-acre who says a snail ON a garbage can, is gonna get bopped on the head!)

I've ordered this snail pattern and I'll shrink it down to pincushion size- Please click the link to see a much better rendition! Cute, right? It might get something underneath it, to ground it, or it might not. :)

Or I can attempt to make a garbage can, about the size of a tomato paste can, with a lid. Hopefully it'll have storage inside it for small tools, or even, TRASH! I'm picturing silver colored felted wool.
