Simpsons Gap is typical of the many gaps and gorges in the park. It started life many years ago as a break or weakness in the Heavitree Quartzite. As the land surface rose, powerful flood waters cut into the rock scouring out the Gap as we see it today.
25 foot tall and 25 pounds, I have been waiting to get one of these antennas, this one came around at an incredible price, had to have it! :)

Thoroughfare Gap Battlefield is a historic American Civil War battlefield located at Thoroughfare Gap, Broad Run, Prince William County, Virginia. It was the site of the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap on August 28, 1862. The property includes a number of resources present at the time of the battle including the separately listed Beverley Mill, a five-story, coursed-rubble stone building set into the north side of Thoroughfare Gap. Meadowlands, the Chapman's house and the second Upper Mill are clearly visible on the landscape, as well as an important ice pit and a walled cemetery associated with the Chapman family.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The Civil War Trust (a division of the American Battlefield Trust) and its partners have acquired and preserved 109 acres of the battlefield. The battlefield is accessible from a walking trail adjacent to the ruins of Chapman's Mill, located north of Interstate 66 on Beverly Mill Drive. Sharpshooters used the mill's upper floor windows to defend the pass. Historic and wayside markers are placed along Virginia Route 55 just south of the mill.
WE LIVED IN THE GAPS BETWEEN THE STORIES is an homage to abortion providers, midwives, healers, herbalists, doulas, clinic escorts, abortion fund organizers, and all who care for abortion seekers. n a reciprocal act of labor, the artist grows and harvests abortifacients and emmenagogues (plants with contraceptive properties), constructs wreaths and decorative objects with them, and gifts them to abortion care workers in a ritual of gratitude.
(Since the Fall of 2019, I have conducted interviews with abortion workers and researched barriers and threats to abortion access in the USA. I have also explored ways to incorporate the production of abortifacents into a performance work, concluding that doing so is not legally feasible at this moment. My project has since evolved from educating the public about methods used in self-managed abortions to celebrating those who make abortion possible. I have begun the process of harvesting and sourcing plants to create works for a solo exhibition in June 2021 that engages specifically with abortion workers from the Midwest and Ohio, where restrictive abortion bans have been proposed. Since COVID-19, interviews have occurred by phone or video call, with the intention to meet in-person with participants in the weeks leading up to my exhibition which will include an outdoor garden space. I will seek further funding to support the completion of this work.)
