The historic Cumberland Gap is a mountain pass at the border of Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee through which the Wilderness Road, utilized by early settlers of Kentucky, passed through on its way west from Virginia and Tennessee. The Cumberland Gap vicinity today is known as Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, which extends into the three states, and features many trails, historical sites, and a tunnel carrying US Highway 25E underneath the gap between Cumberland Gap, Tennessee and Middlesboro, Kentucky. The Cumberland Gap became a National Historical Park between 1940, when the park was established, and 1959, when it was opened to the public, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
There is a farm with a beautiful view of the Delaware Water Gap which I pass just about every day. Blue sky and snow cover only made it more glorious!

The Gap was one of the main things I wanted to do while in Ireland. It did not disappoint! Great weather for the whole walk. If you start from the south, it does one of reveals that I love: you walk up this hill and right when you get to the crest of the hill, this amazing view opens up. Jaw-dropping stuff. We walked the whole thing. I would highly recommend walking and taking your time, there is a lot to soak in.
