Found along the Jones Gap Trail, Dargans Cascade is at the bottom of "The Winds" a series of long switchbacks that drop the trail down to the Saluda River level. Access is via Hwy 276. See more at Internet Brothers Hiking Logs and Gallery.
Synchronous Rotary Spark Gap under construction, designed for a 22kW Tesla Coil. Electrodes are made from 1/2 inch copper-tungsten refractory metal. Rotor is 1/2 inch x 12" G10 fiberglass. Stationary support framework is phenolic-linen laminate. Motor is 1 HP and will be modified for salient-pole operation at 1800 RPM. Geometry is designed to create a blower effect for cooling. Power dissipated in gap will be lower than most other large coils due to unusually high primary coil inductance.

Photo Caption: this photo shows my 65 year old mother and 2 of her grandchildren. She's trying to understand a video game the kids are playing so she can be the 3rd participant in their team. She looks on keenly as the boys explain the game and its features to her. Without her glasses, she is unable to see the images clearly, but once she puts them on, she fully appreciates everything they are showing her. Though generations apart, they find a common playground!

Taken from a freshly mown field just outside Fossa village in late summer. Tomies mountain can be seen to the left of the Gap of Dunloe.
The highest peak to the right of the Gap is Cruach Mhór with Carrauntoohil further to the right shrouded in clouds.

Gapper is the newest mascot out of the 3 mascots of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. This is him greeting fans before a game between the Cincinnai Reds and Houston Astros. The Reds would win 8-2.

Thompson Twins – Into the gap
Sólo hay una estación radial en Bogotá en la cual esta banda aún suena. Se llama La X 103.9 F.M.. Dicho sea de paso, es una de las emisoras de la ciudad con mejor calidad de sonido. Y el que pasen uno que otro tema de este proyecto, de verdad me saca una gran sonrisa. Lo digo porque siendo yo niño, recuerdo un programa llamado Los Diez Mejores de la Música, que perfectamente fue una vitrina de exposición del pop y el rock de esa década y el cual seguramente muchas personas recuerdan.
En aquellos años de androginia inofensiva y más bien fashionista de bandas como Culture Club o Thompson Twins, la música daba además para permearse de otros ritmos. El caribe, con sonidos de timbales y congas fue el escogido por estos dos grupos para presentar algunas de sus obras. Into the Gap es ese disco que en 1984, hizo que nos moviéramos con la alegrÃa propia de quien escucha pop sin prejuicios. El trÃo, cuyo nombre se basaba en el nombre de la pareja de detectives Thompson de la serie Tin Tin (Fernández y Fernandes en español).
En esos años ochenta, muchas oportunidades discográficas y vigentes, llegaban por importación o por prensajes mexicanos o venezolanos. Yo vine a comprar este en un remate, en una tienda bogotana que ya no existe. TenÃa el precio de aquel momento. Noventa bolÃvares. Thompson Twins a tan bajo precio puede ser una señal. A lo mejor es hora de desempolvar Sister of Mercy, Hold me now, Doctor, Doctor o You take me up, como canciones que entre si, nada tienen que ver, pero que al escucharlas en conjunto, bajo este disco, bien se entienden como una de las más bellas experiencias del pop y new wave de esa década.

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. -- About 40 Airmen and their equipment from the Pennsylvania Air National Guard's 201st RED HORSE Squadron departed via convoy from the installation Feb. 12, 2013. The Airmen are deploying to Connecticut to assist with snow removal efforts. An additional 40 Soldiers from the PNG's 252nd Engineer Company, 213th Regional Support Group, were also sent to Connecticut via a C-130 to assist with the response to Winter Storm Nemo. Metamorphic rocks result from intense alteration of any previously existing rocks by heat and/or pressure and/or chemical change. This can happen as a result of regional metamorphism (large-scale tectonic events, such as continental collision or subduction), burial metamorphism (super-deep burial), contact metamorphism (by the heat & chemicals from nearby magma or lava), hydrothermal metamorphism (by superheated groundwater), shear metamorphism (in or near a fault zone), or shock metamorphism (by an impact event). Other categories include thermal metamorphism, kinetic metamorphism, and nuclear metamorphism. Many metamorphic rocks have a foliated texture, but some are crystalline or glassy.
Schist is an intermediate- to high-grade, foliated metamorphic rock. It is highly variable in appearance, depending on the mineral content, which is a function of the precursor rock and specific temperature-pressure conditions. Garden-variety schists form by metamorphism of phyllites. Schists typically have medium- to large-sized crystals, unlike the microcrystalline nature of slate & phyllite.
Schist's foliated texture (= crystals aligned into bands or stripes or layers) is often only seen when specimens are viewed on edge.
The outcrop seen here is muscovite-rich schist in Vermont's Green Mountains. The area's geology is complex - not sure what the formation name is, or the age.
Locality: outcrop at Appalachian Gap overlook along Route 17, west of Irasville, Green Mountains, north-central Vermont, USA
