Health benefits

Pears are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, E1, copper and potassium. Pears are the least allergenic of all fruits. Because of this, it is sometimes used as the first juice introduced to infants. Along with lamb and soya formula, pears form part of the strictest exclusion diet for allergy sufferers.

Pears can be useful in treating inflammation of mucous membranes, colitis, chronic gallbladder disorders, arthritis, and gout.

Pears can also be beneficial in lowering high blood pressure, controlling blood cholesterol levels, and increasing urine acidity.

They are good for the lungs and the stomach.

Most of the fiber is insoluble, making pears a good laxative. The gritty fiber content may cut down on the number of cancerous colon polyps.

Most of the vitamin C, as well as the dietary fiber, are contained within the skin of the fruit.

It's nice to be back posting pictures again. I was out for a bit of surgery...now I am minus a gallbladder!! But all is ok!

Was nice this Heron didn't fly off so quickly so I can take a shot. But it was windy so he was probably hanging on for dear life!! :)

It is the root of the dandelion that will act on the liver while its leaves will have an impact on the kidneys. The use of dandelion is recognized in combination with other plants that have the same protective properties for the liver and gallbladder, such as milk thistle or black radish, and I was thinking of eating some soon. . with the snow it's screwed....!

Montgomery, Alabama

Just before arriving home, in Phoenix, Arizona, I had a gallbladder attack that put me in a hospital ER for a night. That was painful. But Montgomery was so much more painful--not physically, but psychologically. I have no words to adequately describe this scene and that at the Legacy Museum. Atop this grassy knoll is a memorial to the thousands of documented lynching's committed in the United States. It is gut-wrenching, and something every person on earth should experience.

Here is a pretty good description of the scene.

Blessed Thistle is a medicinal plant, is used in folk medicine for digestive problems such as gas, constipation, and stomach upset. This herb acts as an appetite stimulant and digestive aid. The entire plant is edible. The herb contains B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron and manganese. Today Blessed Thistle is used to treat digestive problems. It also cleanses the blood, improves circulation, and strengthens the heart. Blessed Thistle increases the appetite and stomach secretions, and works to heal liver and gallbladder diseases. It is also used for menopause and menstrual cramps, and can aid in increasing milk flow in nursing mothers. Blessed Thistle also works well in treating anorexia, indigestion, flatulence and colic. It can relieve headaches caused by a sluggish liver, lethargy and irritability and is used for reducing diarrhea. Blessed Thistle is known to alleviate inflammation and stop bleeding and cuts

Maybe I should have taken the hint. Actually, it was a really nice old historic diner in the town of Superior, Arizona. The food was fine, and the chocolate malt was divine. But that night I was laid supine.

Hi Y'all.

I'm in the hospital and had my gallbladder removed this morning ☹️. So I haven't been around much. But I'll be back.

Posting again after a heavyweight bout with my gallbladder. It won the first few rounds, but I think it will be a TKO in about a week.

Thanks to you who voiced concern.

Deadly nightshade is becoming increasingly widespread in our forests. It prefers beech forests, where, strangely enough, it is most often found along roadsides. It was once used in so-called "witch's ointments" due to its hallucinogenic properties. Even today, deadly nightshade remains an important medicinal plant. Its slightly modified components are used to treat kidney, gallbladder, and gastrointestinal colic.

Hello Flickr friends. I hope you are all doing well. :) This will be my last post for a little while because in a few days I will be recovering from gallbladder surgery (finally!). I haven't been feeling too bad considering - as long as I maintain a healthy low fat diet. I have never eaten so many fruits and vegetables in my life as I have this past month. And you know what? I feel soooo much better. I ate pretty well before but cutting out ALL things bad for me has made such a difference. Ok, I will admit I have had a cookie or some cheese here and there. :) Even after surgery my goal is to stick with these same diet habits as I have been following. Not sure why I didn't try this before and sadly it took a health scare to make me do it.

Our internet has been very testy lately (country living drawback I suppose) but I will do my best to pop in and visit with everyone's streams when I'm feeling better.

Happy clicking everyone!

At home recooperating from gallbladder surgery & it's driving me crazy that I can't get out with the camera. A couple birds were nice enough to come & visit me though so that helped. Hoping to get back out soon ...if it ever stops raining.

Thank you all for taking a look at my images, much appreciated!

From Wikipedia:

Herb Robert has been used in the folk medicine of several countries, including as a treatment for diarrhea, to improve the functioning of the liver and gallbladder, for toothache and nosebleeds, and as a vulnerary (used for or useful in healing wounds). The name has been explained as a reference to abbot and herbalist Robert of Molesme. Freshly picked leaves have an odor resembling burning tires when crushed, and if they are rubbed on the body the smell is said to repel mosquitoes.

The active ingredients are tannins, a bitter compound called geraniin, and essential oils.

Cornflower is an herb.

The dried flowers are used to make medicine.

People take cornflower tea to treat fever, constipation, water retention, and chest congestion. They also take it as a tonic, bitter, and liver and gallbladder stimulant. Women take it for menstrual disorders and vaginal yeast infections.

Some people apply cornflower directly to the eye for irritation or discomfort.

In foods, cornflower is used in herbal teas to provide color.

I have not been feeling good the last few weeks last night was my third night in emergency. They’ve been treating me for gastritis which really was gallbladder. Later today I’m having gallbladder surgery. They say it’s just orthoscopic and quite minor now but still scary to me. So I will be off for a bit. I will try to catch up on comments as soon as I can. You don’t need to come down here and I don’t know how to shut comments off.

In June of 2021 we got the heartbreaking news that Daisy was born with a severely malformed liver full of shunts and has no gallbladder. Her liver enzymes were over 10x normal and the internal medicine vet said that he expected her quality of life to decline rapidly. He also was shocked that she seemed so radiantly healthy. He advised not to change her diet, but knowing animal protein is the worst offender, I began making her a meat-free diet at home. Three months ago, a year after getting the terrible news, we decided to have her liver enzymes checked again and to everyone's astonishment, they had improved by 75%! While highly unusual, the vet said it doesn't necessarily mean she'll live longer and her liver could fail at any time, but he did assure us that for now she feels very well. That was easy to believe as she has never seemed even a little sick for a single moment. We simply adore this little girl.

I am so humbled by all of your kind comments. Thank you again for stopping by.

Mrs B enjoying the sun.

Will be trying to catch up with you all... Eden is keeping me very busy and 2 weeks ago I had an op to remove my gallbladder so ive been recovering from that :o)

looking forward to seeing your lovely photos.... Missed you all!

Hi there Flickr friends!

I want to say hello to you all and to thank you for your thoughts and prayers during my recent illness. I came home from the hospital on Friday after spending ten days there and I am happy to say that I am on the mend. I was tired at first but now that I am able to actually eat solid food I am beginning to feel sooo much better. I lost quite a bit of weight while I was on the IV. My recovery is only part way done. Last week I had a procedure done to remove about 7 or 8 gallstones trapped in my bile duct. This is what was causing the pancreatitis. Now that it is fixed I am home and will be awaiting the final round of treatment which is surgery to remove my gallbladder. This is supposed to happen in about a month. Due to these set backs, I have decided to stop my 365. As much as I tried to carry on while in the hospital I found it too much to do once I got home and will get behind again with the next surgery. So, as much as I am not pleased with myself for quitting, I am relieved that the daily pressure of it is gone. Maybe next year, right? Don't worry, I will still be here regularly, as much as I can anyways. I truly love and appreciate this community and my friends here so I can't go long without a Flickr fix,

Thanks again everyone, you are the best!

Michelle

**We are getting dumped on with more snow. Ugh! As much as it makes for nice photos, I would say that I am officially done with it for this year. :)

After leaving Hospital after having my Gallbladder removed a pleasent surprise was waiting for me at home.

Irina (female), Igor and Ivan (males) are the Kamchatka brown bears of La Flèche Zoo Park, La Flèche, France

Kamchatka peninsula is home to the highest recorded density of brown bears on Earth. Population estimates for the peninsula range from 10,000 to 14,000 bears.

However, increasing human access through road development to expand mining and mineral exploration is fragmenting the bears' habitat. Kamchatka brown bears are now becoming rare in some regions close to human settlements.

As many as 2,000 bears are killed every year by poachers who come for the bear's gallbladder that sells for hundreds of dollars in the Asian market to use for folk remedies. Also placing the bears in danger are fishing industries seeking profit in the salmon, and decreasing the bears' richest source of food.

The Kamchatka brown bear is considered to be endangered.

I got these from my brother's girlfriend Mimmi, because they were too big for her. She's taller than I am (yes, really, 5' 11) so I don't understand how they can be too big for her, but hey, I'm not complaining. Cute shoes for free, yes please.

I'm crazy about Mimmi. Seriously, she's the best gf my brother has ever had. Yesterday I threatened to end the siblingship if my brother ever broke up with her. ;P NO PRESSURE BRO! Not that I would ever end the siblingship with my brother, I love him to pieces.

Apart from yellow shoe euphoria, I've had a crap day. Not hungover, I think, I feel really sick and ice cold. Hog flu maybe? Because a gallbladder attack from Hell and lyme disease clearly aren't enough ailments for one summer! Stay tuned.

It has been a little while that I have been on line.

Just before our big trip to the US (end of this month), I decided to travel a bit lighter and get rid of my gallbladder (not really recommended).

Can't really got to places much at the moment to take photos.

So it was time to introduce my D800 to water drop collisions.

Here one of the first acceptable results. Hope you like it and have a great weekend

Thanks for looking

Poor Hubby has had so many medical tests lately. A simple blood test led to 2 MRI's, a CT scan and other invasive tests. Nothing bad has been discovered but during the CT scan it was noticed that there was a blob on his kidney. Since we had recently had covid, it was decided that we should wait a few months and then he should do a kidney MRI. After the MRI it was discovered that the blob is gone! Yay! But what is that "Layered sludge" in your gallbladder? Huh?

Hubby's reaction: "No more tests!! Stop looking so closely!!" :-)

At least Dr. Flieber has been helpful during this whole process :-)

note: i haven't been very active on streams. my wife had surgery last tuesday (gallbladder) and is still recovering. as a result, i have been keeping my three little demons full time since the surgery. it is .... INSANE! i am literally writing this message between diper changing, breakfast preparing, and tons of other things.

wounds that seem the same over the years but mutate, but change, but hurt in a different way each day. They don't heal. They only change.

Yeah, winter is finally on the way, and we are supposed to wake up to 2-3 inches of snow tomorrow morning...it will be the first snowfall of the year; this time last year we already had over 15 inches of snow....long overdue; can't wait!!!!!

I may be out of commission for a few days (having gallbladder surgery tomorrow) but will catch up with everyone soon :-) Thanks for all your visits & support!!!!

Four days after my gallbladder surgery, my daughter-in-law & my granddaughter dropped by with bananas & a second bouquet, this one featured apricot roses. So lovely! This was taken in the morning light in my computer room.

Update--Seven days post-op, I am mostly past pain & my incisions are healing well. Still a bit low-energy & have limitations on lifting. I understand full recovery is usually set at 6 weeks. I think my body is doing a great job!

I love Highland Coos - they are my favourite. This is one that I made out of mohair fur. Isn't it just the cutest little thing?

I haven't been on Flickr much as I have been recovering from having my Gallbladder removed. I came home from hospital yesterday and apart from feeling a little tender, I am doing okay.

Taken with a Sony A7RIII + Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS in crop mode. Haven't had much time to really play with this combo and new lens. Getting out can be a bit of a challenge with this pandemic (I'm also a caregiver and my wife just having had her gallbladder removed) but I try when/where I can.

This moose was seen this morning at the end of French Lake in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and presented an opportunity to see what this lens can do. An overcast day, I'm still looking for and hoping for a day with better light.

Cheers!

My poor Pistache had an ultrasound yesterday. She keeps vomiting and losing weight (2.6 kg now). The vet feared a cancerous tumour, but all she saw was a thickening of the gallbladder wall. You can't totally exclude cancer, but a biopsy would be needed, and apart from being certain, it wouldn't help.

Hoping it's just a microbial problem she has antibiotics to take for 20 days. Normally she should also eat special dry food that I'll get on Monday, but I don't really believe that she will eat it.

I hope my baby will be better soon and that we will celebrate her 17th birthday in September.

Little fun with filters (post processing - Nik Color Effex Pro); shot was from a foggy Saturday this past fall...something warm & colorful to start off the new week :-)

Hope everyone has a fantastic week...busy for me the next couple of days and then it's off for about a week or so...having gallbladder surgery :-( Thanks for all your visits!!!!

Late afternoon meal in Superior, Arizona. Lovely little diner on the main drag. Grilled cheese, French Fries and a huge to-die=for chocolate malt. After eating, we drove to Phoenix and accessed our motel room. I had been in touch with Flickr friend Rich Gross, (www.flickr.com/photos/r-gross-arizona/ ) and we were planning to do a photo shoot the next morning. As it turns out, my gallbladder had other ideas, and that night I ended up in the ER of a Phoenix hospital. They pumped me full of pain killers and we returned to the motel about 7 the next morning. The next thing I remember was waking up with the wife laying next to me reading. I looked at my phone and it said 3 o'clock. So I asked her what the hell she was doing reading at 3 in the morning. That's when she told me it was afternoon. Wow! Guess I missed a few hours. We kept the room for that night, canceled the photo shoot with Rich and left for home the next morning.

A very sad end to a wonderful trip. But just ending the trip would have been sufficiently sad anyway.

Thus, this is likely the last post in the "All Across America" album. If you've been along for the trip, I thank you. You've been great company.

P.S. A week later I ended up back in the ER in Fresno on a Saturday night. They admitted me and the next morning my evil gallbladder was removed. I'm fine now.

Last Thursday I had my gallbladder removed, plus the one inch stone which was stuck inside - I had keyhole surgery and was allowed home the same day - I'm feeling okay, a bit tired and a little sore (lots of bruising) our #NHS did a fantastic job, they are amazing.

Today I've been using my new Christmas present from Jack, a portable light box, it's really good!! I'm home for a couple of weeks so will probably be playing around with this for a while.

I've always loved these cute heads, beautiful colours in all the green.

Sweetest to eat if you harvest them when they are starting to flower in summertime.

Both the leaves and the flowers of red clover can be eaten, and they are nice to have in salads.

This flower has long historical traditions like a blood-cleansing herb that also dilutes the blood, promotes digestion and stimulates detoxification of the body through the function of liver and gallbladder.

There is always something to know about flowers.

Always check out how to deal with them yourself if you intend to use them :D

My crystal ball is predicting an up-coming flickr absense. I spent the morning at the doctor's office being poked and prodded. It appears that my gallbladder has quit functioning and is extremely inflamed. On Thursday, I will have many tests run at the hospital to see if there are stones that can be broken up or if the gallbladder must be removed. I need your prayers - I do not want surgery!!!!

A couple of herb-robert flowers growing among the bluebells. Or should I say, the bluebells are growing among the herb-robert.

Also known as Geranium Robertianum and robin's flower - herb-robert has some interesting medicinal properties in ancient folklore. It has been used to improve the gallbladder and liver, as well as treat nosebleeds and other wounds.

Apparently the leaves are also a great mosquito repellent when rubbed on your body. But I have to say I've never tried.

Believe it or not, I took this photo using nothing more than a magnifying glass held in front of my camera. Something I think I will have to experiment with further.

Perhaps I'll make my own macro lens attachment.

This is the orphaned Cub we call Annie, she is still out there on her own but looks healthy. Michelle called the Bear Rehab a while back hoping they would rescue her. Conservation came out & were going to dart Annie then take her to the Rehab but she took one look at them climbed down the tree & ran off in the forest. Although she wasn't rescued we hope that if she outsmarted those guys she will survive the winter on her own.

Recently another orphan cub was found in the area, this one even smaller than Annie. Some nice people in our community watched out for her, many phone calls were made & with efforts of all those involved the cub took to a trap & was transferred to the Bear Rehab. Only 29lbs Mid-November. Nice to have a happy ending, hoping for the same ending with a Cub friends found on the weekend.

Orphaned Cubs are showing up all over, but why? Within a 24 hour period 2 Black Bears were found poached in different parts of our province, paws cut off & gallbladders taken. I know this news may be disturbing but it has affected the people in our community, some more than others. I hope with the media involved & people now aware this is happening in our province they can find the poachers before more bears lose their lives.

My daughter had gallbladder surgery 10 days after I had my hip replaced. Tonight I made for her Sous Vide center-cut pork chops and braised collard greens. Prior to having her gallbladder removed, this meal would have sent her over the top for hours on end. Now she did just fine! [obviously I could not do her surgery, but I did bring her home to Virginia for this] Daddy know best!
