I couldn't find any kind of official name for this geological appendage so I gave it a Latin name that sounded pretty good. It translates to "rocky point." If you know that there's a real name for this outcropping of rocks in Big Bay State Park on Madeline Island, Wisconsin, let me know.

This is a photo of the downtown Seattle public library. Built by Rem Koolhass, this piece of modern architectural art is as amazing on the inside as it is outside. This structure has been shot a ton so I really tried to give it something I hadn’t seen before. Out of all my shots that day, this one “popped” most for me. I brought out my wide angle lens (14mm full frame) and got really low to the ground for this shot. Standing on the corner, I could just barely squeeze in the entire structure. I waited for the sun to peek through the buildings downtown and captured the reflection on the side of the building, which I felt added to the dramatic nature of the structure. As you can see, there is a bit of lens flare, but I actually liked it this time. If you follow the flare trail, you can see it reflected all the way to the street sign on the left, which is ultimately why I decided to keep the street pole in. I really liked all the angles in this shot!

If you like this kind of funky perspective, here's another one of the Seattle Center.

HDR. 5 exposures each 1 stop apart. The colors are a bit saturated.

As I mentioned in a previous post, sometimes its just fun to take an image and ramp it up, exaggerate colors, and in this case blend 7 images with HDR. So, here is my morning guilty pleasure.

A stone wall dividing fields from open moorland, Revidge Moor, Warslow, Staffordshire Moorlands

I have somewhat evolved in my reticence towards HDR, in fact I think if its done well (and the jury is still out for me on this image!) - I think it can evoke a completely different mood. I have shot Secret Beach in Makena dozens of times, this is my second HDR attempt.

An obligitory "money shot" of Split Rock Light House near Two Harbors, Minnesota. Any closer and the MN Historical Society requires you to pay $10 for a wristband. Not sure if that includes high-powered zoom lenses or drones. It's a common view of the joint but I tried to spice it up a little by whipping a little HDR in the processing.

Sunset at Smith Rock in Terrebonne. There were so many variations in light, I merged 9 different bracketed exposures into an HDR image to capture all the nuances of the rock face, river, and sunset.

I was going for that 1963 Popular Science Magazine color illustration kinda vibe. I think I got it to work with this shot of Bruininks Hall on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

This stunning slice of nature comes courtesy of Lochness Park in Blaine, Minnesota—an autumn day so damn perfect it’s almost suspicious. The leaves are burning into their fall colors, clouds drifting lazily like they know something we don’t, and the lake’s surface reflects it all back at you—like reality itself is giving you a wink. One fleeting moment in the endless chaos, frozen for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy it while it lasts.
