The pomegranates on this particular tree are never very good in flavor, but the tree always produces beautiful red-orange blooms and when the petals drop the tiny fruit is very colorful

Jede Zeit hat ihr Material! Wurde in den 1960er-Jahren Plastik als das Wundermaterial schlechthin gefeiert, forschen wir heute an intelligenten (Kunst-)Stoffen. Wir träumen von Materialien, die unsere Bedürfnisse kennen und sich selbst an wechselnde Situationen und andere Umstände anpassen. In dem Workshop, bei dem lustvoll-kreatives Experimentieren mit programmierbaren Werkstoffen auf dem Plan steht, werdet ihr zu MaterialforscherInnen.

Our future what will our nation be in another fifty years, what will this child experience as our nation progresses, what does the future holds for all of us as a nation?
Before the fire, we had had some "Phase II" projects in mind for some time after we moved in. The fire put us in a position where it not only made sense to do most of them while the house was being rebuilt (no point in redrywalling, restuccoing, and repainting twice), but we also decided to make the garage conversion more integrated. The original owners had done a half way conversion--they'd sealed the garage door and added a sliding glass door. We decided to finish the walls when we rebuilt, finish the floors, and divide the space into an actualy laundry room, a walk in pantry, and a large family room. For the pantry conversion, we took out the utility sink and stoarge cabinet next to it. The painter's tape on the floor shows our initial idea for the pantry space. We later changed it to be smaller, with the hallway a straight extension of the east hall.
The future is bright, but also blurry and blinding. Straightforward, but full of ties crossing. You only have to keep on going, but it sometimes you just don't feel it's that easy.
Is this the present or the future...!? Lets ask some kids around the world... Haven't they seen enough? Haven't they suffered enough? Lets pray we never ever get to see such a day in our country...

The Brooklyn based stencil artist Lady Aiko painted a number of shacks in Kliptown Soweto towards the end of last year. Her work is instantly recognizable and intricate. This was part of Martha Cooper's Soweto/Sowebo project and a number of South African artists participated,

Driving through the desert I am on the edge of space. Bleak, barren landscapes stretch up toward the sky; pylons reach for the stars; road unrolls as steadily and evenly as the contrail of a rocket ship, a copper wire, a smoking chimney. To our sci-fi future: it is here. Here in the desert where moon-scape meets advanced industry. Where ingenuity and engineering tame and harnesses rivers, where railroad cages the open landscape and shrinks it as to our will, where the future is tested and designed and developed and built and stands over us, monolithic, secretive, hidden in the wide, wide, open, behind the beautiful barren landscape, within the ugly, barren lives, and just beyond reach of today.

FUTURE IS NOW-Festival
Zukunft, Cabaret, Exil, Rosso, Helsinki, RiffRaff, Bäckeranlage - Zürich
Das FUTURE IS NOW-Festival, das bereits drei Mal erfolgreich Clubbeats und Indiesounds verzahnt hat, heisst neue Partner im Team willkommen. So sind die Red Bull Music Academy, das Kino Riff Raff und der Helsinki Club mit von der Partie. In Kooperation mit der Stadt Zürich findet erstmals auch eine Veranstaltung für Kinder statt. Das diesjährige FUTURE IS NOW geht am 7. Mai 2011 über die Bühnen.
Zu den Highlights des diesjährigen Programms zählen der Auftritt von Jojo Maier’s Drum’n’Bass-Liveformation Nerve sowie die erstmalige Durchführung einer Red Bull Music Academy-Session mit dem Warp-Act Africa Hi-Tech feat. Mark Pritchard & Steve Spacek. Freunde anspruchsvoller Clubmusik kommen auch dank den deutschen Houseinnovatoren Âme und Dixon sowie dem Jenaer DJ Robag Wruhme auf ihre Kosten.
Mit Geiom gastiert auch ein Dubstepact. Hiphop gibt’s von den Ladies Yarah Bravo und That Fucking Sarah, während die lokale Szene etwa mit einem Indiekonzert der Zürcher Band The Legendary Lightness sowie Techno-Livesets von Canson, Andri und Bang Goes vertreten ist.
In visueller Hinsicht hat das FUTURE IS NOW zugelegt: Die Zürcher Van Nutt und Buffet für Gestaltung präsentieren ein gemeinsames Lichtwerk. Das RiffRaff wiederum zeigt den Film «Oddsac», den die amerikanischen Soundmagier Animal Collective vertont haben.
