Nepal Photo Blog 19/02/11
This is Pragya and mother Jananaki. Pragya means talented, creative.
One cannot help but look at children like Pragya and wonder about the future. As the peace process slowly develops after the ten year revolution, many problems still exist in Nepal. The People's war claimed many lives and affected the whole country. Much was lost and much was gained.
And now, 4 years into the peace process there is still uncertainty as to the future. There is no roadmap for the future.
And yet, unlike so much of the rest of the world, Nepal, despite the bloodshed, has retained so much. Yes, the environment has suffered, poaching was rife during the war...but the tiger and nearly every other original species still exists here. Very few countries can say that.
So there is hope for the future...but still a lot of work to be done...

Thanks for looking. This image is part of a photo blog looking at the relationships between politics, people and the environment. I must stress that neither myself or www.wildtiger.org have any political allegiance, we are looking at things as they are, purely from a conservation standpoint, with our eyes open.

Don't you see a future leader of the Armenian mob? All we need is an accompanying side view. This was taken in 1955 for the magazine of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, a charitable organization of which my grandfather was a leader. He died earlier that year and I was made a member in his stead.

166:366 This is the second time we have seen groups of children trying out the fire hoses at the local fire station. A great idea. My Dad was a volunteer fireman for many years in Wiota, Iowa. Their team won many awards in water fights with other towns at an annual convention. They rigged a barrel on an overhead cable. The two times tried to move the barrel to the opposing teams side. I even got to be on a kids team occasionally. Very fun! And refreshing on a hot day!
inside and outside of the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, hundreds of DMPS students were part of Build Your Future, a major event aimed at stepping up the supply of employees in the skilled trades industry. With representatives from nearly every skilled trade imaginable, nearly 3,000 students from across Iowa were exposed to potential careers.
today (November 22, 1963) I was attending George Washington University and working under the patronage of Speaker John W. McCormack as an elevator operator in the U.S. Capitol Building. After work that Friday I was with friends in the Speaker's Office and retrieved a role of teletype messages from the office floor. A portion of those messages is shown here. The enormity, power and sadness of the event and my experience being in that building at that moment and throughout the next days and year are forever part of me. As I remember that day it seems as if I am again 19 years old and then as now overawed and not a little uncertain and apprehensive of the future..
In the future eveything is sleek and white. Wheels are unguarded and the Police wear very figure hugging uniforms to distract us from doing anything illegal.
