At 1.23pm, the first sign of the rolling roadblocks appeared. This is Surrey Police motorbike GX12 FUP, in Vicarage Road, Kingfield.
Initially, it was just police motorbikes stopping at key points and telling motorists to stop.
Lead poisoning is the leading cause of death of adult loons in Maine.
Adult loons catch fish with lost or broken lead jigs and sinkers, or pick up lead objects while eating gravel from lake bottoms. Once ingested, lead objects dissolve in loon gizzards and causes death in as little as two weeks.
Lead-free sinkers and jigs are slightly more expensive than their lead counterparts, but are safe and non-toxic for people and wildlife.
