On November 15-16, 2018, the Ford School and Center on Finance, Law, and Policy hosted "Functions and Firms: Using Activity and Entity-based Regulation to Strengthen the Financial System" featuring Keynote speaker Jelena McWilliams, Chairman of the FDIC. Over the course of two days in Washington DC, the U.S. Office of Financial Research and the University of Michigan’s CFLP brought together regulators, policymakers, lawyers, economists, financial institutions, investors, financial technology companies, and experts on data science, cybersecurity, and finance to discuss core principles for financial regulation.

What do you you see (function wise) when you look at this object? Seriously. Give it a minute and think about it.

Even though its intended purpose is a pencil cup, I see a pedestal. Or a table. Or a table base. Or a large lighted fixture.

I was immediately taken with the clean, simple lines and frosted glass look finish. I can use it unaltered as seen in 'Shoetique', insert scrapbook paper or photos (as seen here), put in a battery operated tea light candle or miniature lights for illumination, etc. And the list goes on.

Re-training your brain is not hard. All you have to do is look at things for their shape and size rather than their function, and soon, a whole new world of possibility will begin to open up to you.

Designing a driven steering setup based on the system found in most Subaru models. The struts are set up to mount into the frame and pivot with the steering knuckle. Wheels are mounted to the hub, which has a three stud pattern and accommodates for the short length of the CV axle shaft. The tie rods for steering will need to be designed with real parts, since LDD isn't particularly flexible with multiple joint systems. It may be possible to create a system/technic steering rack, but I would prefer to figure it out with real parts.

Calgary Transit GMC 'Fishbowl' 1049 [EUD938] approaches the McKnight-Westwinds Interchange at the terminus of the C-Train light rail line in Calgary's north-eastern suburbs, during the morning of 01 September 2009.

Note that the rear emergency hatch on the roof is open and hanging to the side - most probably for extra ventilation, as the ambient temperature reached the mid 20s (Celsius) by about 10am that day and hovered in the high 20s (Celsius) most of the afternoon. It seemed remarkably warm for a city so far north and close to the snow-capped Rocky Mountains, given the time of year.

VI Series Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher is also called Sand Maker, which is high-functioned equipment for making sand and shaping, is researched and produced by our corporation, absorbed with the advanced technology from Germany, and owned advanced world standards. This equipment has two types: rock-on-rock and rock-on-iron. Sand yield of “rock-on-iron” type is higher by 10-20% than that of “rock-on-rock” type.

Usages of Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher:

1. It is used for producing building aggregate, concrete, aggregate for road surface and roadbed, asphalt concrete and cement concrete.

2. It is also used for sand making and shaping in the field of engineering such as water conservancy, hydroelectric power, high-class highway, high-speed railway, passenger special line, bridge, airport pavement, municipal works and high-rise buildings.

3.It is used widely in many industries such as building materials, metallurgy, chemical engineer, mining, refractory materials, cement etc.

4.It is used for producing glass raw materials, quartz sand and other high purity materials.

Working Principle of Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher:Material falls down into high rolling impeller cavity vertically through the upper part of machine. Under great centrifugal force, it hits and crushes another part of material that distributing around the impeller with umbrella form. After hitting each other, they force a vortex between impeller and shell, and hit each other several times; finally smaller stone comes out, and goes to vibrating screen. Satisfactory material is transported by conveyor belt. However overlarge material will go back to Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher to be re-crushed. Otherwise, output sizes can be also adjusted according to customer’s requirement.

Features and Benefits of Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher:1. Simple structure, easy to set up and repair, low cost in operation;

2. High production of crushing, has the function of fine crushing and rough grinding;

3. Excellent shape of product, mainly the product shape is cubic with small fraction of elongated flaky particle shape, suitable for aggregate shaping, manufactured sand.

4. It is little affected by the moisture content of materials, and the content can get up to about 8%.

5. It is suitable to crush medium hard and ultra-hard materials.

6. Working noise is lower than 75 decibel, less dust pollution.

Treasury-type functions before self-government

A history of the Department of Treasury and Finance and its predecessors can be found in Heather Felton’s excellent book, From Commissariat to Treasury – the story of the Tasmanian Department of Treasury and Finance 1804 to 2004. This book was published by Treasury in 2004 to celebrate 200 years of the Treasury functions in Tasmania.

From that book, and other sources, we have compiled a list of Tasmanian Treasurers since self-government and a list of those persons occupying positions which are more broadly equivalent to the role of the current Secretary.

As would be expected, the functions of Treasury today are vastly different from the tasks undertaken when Bowen and Collins landed in Tasmania in 1803 and 1804 respectively. A brief description of the various positions, taken from Felton, is outlined below.

Commissariat

The Commissariat was responsible for procuring and distributing food, equipment and other supplies, such as seeds and farm animals. The Head of the Commissariat was also the settlement’s financial manager and accountant. The occupant also controlled the flow of British money into, and out of, the colony. He also provided the earliest banking services, advised the Lieutenant-Governor on economic policy and, in the early years, allocated building materials and managed government property.

Naval Officer

The main role of the Naval Officer was to collect customs, port fees and other revenue.

Treasurer of the Police Fund

The Police Fund was established by Governor Macquarie in 1810 and its main purpose was to establish a police force. It was also used to pay the salaries and expenses of other locally appointed officials.

Colonial Treasurer

Mr Jocelyn Thomas was appointed the first Colonial Treasurer with effect from 11 October 1824.

One of the recommendations of an inquiry conducted by John Bigge in 1821 was for the colony’s financial functions to be consolidated in a central treasury department. As a consequence, the Collector of Internal Revenue and the Inspector of Distilleries and Breweries became responsible to the Colonial Treasurer.

Following the adoption of the 1828 Constitution, Mr Thomas became an ex-officio member of the Legislative Council (8 August 1829). From that time to the introduction of responsible government in 1856, the Colonial Treasurer and the Colonial Secretary were the two public officials that had both executive and legislative advisory roles. This was in addition to their administrative responsibility of as a head of a department.

I guess Vossloh didn't have a styling department when they made this diesel. I saw it further west, and not having a pic of one, gave chase utilizing the A15's 130kmh (80mph) sections to find a different spot. A shame to this observer that this anonymous loco seen up close seems purely 'function over form' in design and carrying a livery neither attractive nor well thought out. "I think we should go with white around the exhaust stack" followed later by "Urrrk. That's ugly. Lets not put our name on the side..." Googling 'Vossloh locomotive' reveals they are available in a variety of unpleasant paint schemes, with the exception of the new DRS Class 68s in the UK which are really striking in both design and adornment. At least this one doesn't have the weird asymmetrical cab and is clean - other that aforementioned stack. Feb 4 2015, the Betuweroute freight line, The Netherlands

Functions of an 'unsocial nature' also occurred, mostly in the form of verbal altercations, fistfights and shootings, the most famous of which was the fatal J. Marion Moore - Samuel Lockhart shooting that occurred in front of the hotel in 1868. The hotel was closed around 1942, then fell into disrepair. In the spring of 1972, Edward Jagels purchased the building and the creaking old front doors once more swung open for business. The Idaho Hotel became Ed's personal crusade and he dedicated the rest of his life, nearly 30 years, to restoring this grand hotel and preserving it's place in history. The hotel was sold again to its current owners in 2001. Their dream is to continue Ed's legacy and preserve the old hotel as he had intended for future generations to enjoy.

History:

January 11, 1944

The later PH-PBA leaves the factory as a C-47 and is delivered with registration 19434 to the US Air Force.

June 6, 1944

The later PH-PBA participates in D-Day over Normandy on “Mission Boston” (registration 42-100971).

Five hours before the D-Day invasion began, this Dakota dropped paratroopers from the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment over Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy.

The C-47 featured invasion stripes on the wings.

September 17, 1944

Participates in Operation Market Garden (paratroopers dropped near Arnhem). The later PH-PBA gets the name “The Squirrel” applied to the fuselage near the cockpit.

Later, the PH-PBA provided supply flights from the provisional airfield Keent near Grave.

This marks her first time over the Netherlands.

It also conducts drops over Groesbeek and Overasselt.

The staff of Brigadier General James E. Gavin was transported aboard this Dakota to the Battle of Arnhem.

September 18 and 23, 1944

On 18 September, PH-PBA flies to Groesbeek including a glider containing four paratroopers and equipment.

On September 23, another dropping flight with a glider in tow, this time with 13 paratroopers aboard.

27 September 1944

First landing of the later PH-PBA in The Netherlands.

ThePH-PBA therefore has a very important historical value for the Netherlands.

1945

After the war, this C-47 is stored at Oberpfaffenhofen Air Base.

Winter 1945-1946

H.R.H. Prince Bernhard buys the PH-PBA after approval by General Eisenhouwer.

February 6, 1946

The C-47 was officially entered in the Dutch Aircraft Register by His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard with the registration PH-PBA (Prince Bernhard Alpha).

The aircraft will receive the color scheme of Inspector General of the Armed Forces and will be provided with the coat of arms of the Inspector General of the Armed Forces (IGK) which position H.R.H. Prince Bernhard first held. To this day, the IGK coat of arms adorns the PH-PBA, confirming the long and historic relationship.

March 1946

The PH-PBA is put into service as the first Government aircraft of the Netherlands.

February 25, 1947

Transferred to the Dutch State and used as the first Government aircraft.

1950

The PH-PBA is transported aboard the Karel Doorman from Rotterdam to the West for a state visit.

March 1961

The PH-PBA will be replaced by a Fokker Friendship PH-PBF.

Until mid-1975, the PH-PBA was used by the National Aviation Administration as a calibration aircraft.

July 31, 1975

The PH-PBA is taken out of service and acquired by the then Aviodome at Schiphol Airport.

The PH-PBA was then sprayed in a KLM scheme and received the registration PH-TCB.

1996

Establishment of the Prince Bernhard Alpha Foundation.

On the initiative of HRH Prince Bernhard, the PH-PBA became the property of the PBA Foundation and an extensive restoration program followed in England at Air Atlantic.

November 13, 1998

The PH-PBA has been fully restored and will return to the Netherlands in airworthy condition. She is on loan to the DDA Classic Airlines Foundation.

DDA must watch over the condition of the aircraft like a good family man and keep it in airworthy condition.

The aircraft will be carried out in pre-war KLM colors.

November 13, 2006

The sponsorship agreement with KLM will be extended. The PBA is carried out in two styles : On the left side in pre-war KLM style and on the right side

in the style of Air France. The Executive Board of KLM flies the PBA to Paris.

July 12, 2007

KLM adopts the PBA and bears the fixed costs. LVNL and Schiphol Airport participate and also become sponsors.

December 7, 2010

The PBA is performed in retro 50’s KLM style and is frequently used at KLM events at home and abroad.

November 1, 2016 – August 15, 2017

In cooperation with Fokker, a weight-saving modification is being made to bring the number of seats from 12 to 18.

Thanks to a great effort by the technicians and excellent cooperation with IL&T, the aircraft is ready in time for a promotional trip to Sweden

For Spendrups Brewery.

During the same period, the E-inspection takes place. This is the most intensive inspection of the aircraft that takes place once every 5 years.

January 2018

The PBA will be carried out in the style in which it has flown for most of its existence i.e. in the colors of the government aircraft with the coat of arms of

The Inspector General of the Armed Forces. The latter gives unconditional consent to the application of the weapon.

This livery does justice to the fact that the PBA belongs to the Dutch Mobile Heritage with a distinctly Dutch appearance.

November 2019 – March 2020

The wings of the PBA are disassembled, inspected and reassembled.

The aircraft is in excellent condition and ready for the 2020 flight program.

April 2020

Because of the Corona crisis, it is decided to put the PBA in storage at the KLuHV at Gilze Rijen.

April 2021

The PBA returns to Schiphol-East and is given a new home at Jetsupport in hangar 32.

A regular C-inspection will follow before resuming round-trip flights starting in August.

This is the 7th tank MOC I've made. It's called the Mark 7 “Athena”. The Mark 7 has quite a few functions like: lights, Christie suspension, gun elevation and turret rotation, an actually shooting and autoloading gun with a six shots magazine, and finally a self-stabilizing gun thanks to the EV3 and a gyro sensor.
