I happened upon this dilapidated ol' cabin while exploring some lesser-known trails in the woods of central New Hampshire. There is more to the story...

This was just a random cabin I came across for the first time while investigating the connectivity of some old trail/road remnants up in these parts of the Mink Hill region of the Warner woods.

The moral of the story is that if you continue past this cabin, about a 1/4 mile to the east (the direction my bike is pointing toward) this old connector is dead-ended by a large boggy area of natural overgrowth. A thick growth area that is retaking the unused road and a swampy/brook area that no longer has a functional bridge crossing it. Only found the remains of the two horse and carriage-era, stone bridge abutments. I was forced to turn back and find a workaround route to complete my planned loop. So, I passed by this cabin again on my way out after being turned around by nature.

I don't know anything about this cabin's history but it sure looks like it would fit well into a movie that featured a murder shack in the script. 👻💀

I finally set the pole to mount the remote wind speed/direction, outside humidity and rain gauge device. The sunny afternoon and high term of 68 F prompted this sudden burst of energy! Rains are predicted all day tomorrow so I should get some input on the accuracy of the rain catching device! The rain gauge is self dumping so you don't have to go outside to dump the accumulated rain and the amount is transmitted to this indoor display!

Functional quality, of course :). Radar in tow that turns in all directions. The 2 small folding jacks when the trailer is unhooked. (A radar not horizontal, when the trailer tilts, it works much less well!)

Radar on the roof of the vehicle which rotates 360 °. I really thoroughly styled this 2nd radar with sensors everywhere and tried to keep "the best spirit" with the 2 round transparent things.

FR

The Thunderbird recalled the early days of automobiling, when cars were more fun than functional. Thunderbirds and other small two-seaters were sold as "personal cars" -- often second cars -- in which motorists could enjoy driving for its own sake. This Thunderbird's owner, Ford engineer William Burnett, had a uniquely personal relationship with it -- he supervised the development of the first Thunderbird.

TRANSIT , from Latin transire ‎(“to go across, pass in, pass through”), from trans ‎(“over”) + ire ‎(“to go”)

I am on the road often and for a long time for professional reasons. My business trips usually leave me little room and time for creativity. The usual stops are limited to airports, hotel rooms, offices and meeting rooms - not exotic places, but places of banal everyday life.

They are those ephemeral places of transit that are only connected by the journey and exist in an interim period. One is not really there yet and actually already gone again. A metaphor of life, so to speak: you know that you won't stay long.

I perceive the travel time, especially on the plane, as being outside of profane time. The blue of the sky often seems sacred. The clouds that look like cotton balls; are they nature or artifact?

The altitude and the deep blue ocean reduce the southern tip of Greenland to its geometric shape. In winter, just before dusk, the snow on the soft hills of the Mongolian steppe looks like caster sugar.

But "Transit" also reflects the fate of being foreign and alone in transit. The traveller changes planes, gets off at the airport and changes to a taxi, checks in at the hotel and then checks out again later, only to take the same route in the opposite direction.

At two o'clock in the morning local time one is still awake. The TV is on and fills the silent emptiness. At home it is only six o'clock in the evening. You eat alone and drink a last beer at the hotel bar.

Many of the places in "Transit" are non-places in the sense of the French anthropologist Marc Augé. Especially the function of airports, places of transit without history, is not to stay.

Their purpose is not to create a special identity or a special relation to their surroundings. Rather, their similarity to one another is intended to make it easier for travellers to find their way around.

Here one is always on the way to a place that is more important than this place of transit. The time at the airport is waiting time, dead time. One wants to get on as fast as possible. Nobody meets each other here.

Even hotels are non-places. They are used anonymously and detached from the usual local ties. One is not at home in them, rarely makes personal encounters and hardly any contacts beyond functional exchange.

Ultimately, however, the time between departure and arrival is also a moment of freedom. Until the return to the profane time, one is in a state of freedom from the constraints of everyday life.

Continuing my Southern Arizona Adventure 2024 with a stop in Tubac, AZ. This is stage 3 of 9. This is a place I plan on revisiting.

This is a Hudson Hornet displayed outside the Old Presidio Traders store on Tubac Road.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Hornet

The Hudson Hornet is a full-size car manufactured by Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan from 1951 until 1954, when Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson merged to form American Motors Corporation (AMC). Hudson automobiles continued to be marketed under the Hudson brand name through the 1957 model year.

The first-generation Hudson Hornets featured a functional "step-down" design with dropped floor pan and a chassis with a lower center of gravity than contemporary vehicles that helped the car handle well — an advantage for racing.[1] The Hornet's lower and sleeker look was accentuated by streamlined styling, sometimes called "ponton" styling.

Hudson was the first automobile manufacturer to get involved in stock car racing.[12] The Hornet "dominated stock car racing in the early-1950s, when stock car racers actually raced stock cars."[7]

Southern Arizona Adventure 2024,

I like it. It’s just simple but it works in black and white to me. I’m not sure it’s fully realised as an image. It might need some more visits and thought

These 'benches' are not intended to be comfortable, they are ideal for the teenage slouch adopted by those who must constantly peer at their mobile phone. If you are older a 3cm wide strip of stainless steel is best avoided. To be fair Cradley Heath has a ticket office/waiting room which does have reasonable seating.

Nikon Z fc with Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI-S lens.

I find it amusing that some comments on the internet regarding the Z fc complain that it doesn't have a grip. I think the whole point of the external design is that it closely follows the design of the classic Nikon film cameras, especially the FM2. Does that make it a little harder to hold, sure, just like the FM2 and nearly every other SLR from that era. It's like complaining that it's harder to get into the back seat of a two-door car. No problem, buy a four-door version. Want a grip, lots of models to choose from.

There are many people who hold on to their old film cameras not because they still use them but because they are beautiful pieces of fine machinery. In the early days of digital many hoped, as I did, that someone would make a digital camera with the external design of those gems with, of course, the necessary changes to make them fully functional. Fuji in particular was very successful with their X100 series which are gorgeous. The X-T1 and others are also somewhat "retro" in design and very successful. One comment I heard was that Nikon was copying Fujifilm in the design of the Z fc. Apparently that person was not familiar with what Nikon was making 60 years ago!

There are a few minor things I think could be improved but overall I'm very happy with the Z fc. I have many other cameras to choose from when I take photos (my wife would say too many!) and each has its strengths. I won't use it for everything, some cameras are better for specific types of photography. One thing for sure, I'll have the Z fc with me a lot of the time.

Patterns beneath our feet

The next four pattern photos were all taken in Perth city centre. I was heading in for coffee with a friend, so I left about 15 minutes early to look for some photo opps.

So, a challenge and a time constraint… and a lens constraint – only using my 14mm.

My first shot was the patterns in these cobbles. I think they are mesmerising.

Tutorial on Instructables: www.instructables.com/id/Functional-LEGO-Nutcrackers/

With a simple pull of the lever, these decorative figures can open and close their jaws like authentic nutcrackers!

Both of these models were built in the recent weeks leading up to Christmas. The design was pretty straightforward, but two major issues were making the faces look good, and finally getting the hats right. In fact, the green nutcracker's crown took the longest to figure out, and was finally made with hinge plates.

As mentioned in the tutorial, although these can in fact function as real nutcrackers, they're somewhat rickety and best suited for holiday decorations.
