How close is too close? It seems an uncomfortably safe 3-5ft are the recommended distances for public health today. Prayers and virtual hugs. ☮️💜

I'm a fulltime RVer who never stays in RV parks, much preferring to park on the many areas of public land in the Western US. How can you beat this view?

Hello. It's been a while, quite a while actually. As some of you know, i'm now working fulltime as a teacher. To have a fulltime work and an anxiety from hell have made it hard for me to have time and energy for my photography, i also have performance requirements, about how i'm teaching but also with my photography work. There is no good enogh for me. (Well THERE IS but i have a hard time with it).

But today i have two photos for you. I actually did overcome my fear of "i don't know what i'm doing". And enjoyed expressing myself again. This is my language.

To my knowledge, Blacktown City Council is the only purchaser of a Manco side loader in NSW. A source of mine tells me the council definitely owns two of these SL85 models, one of which is a fulltime truck and the second more of a spare/extra. Upon discovering Blacktown acquired at least one of these machines, I marked a mission to hunt it down to personally watch and video in action. Recently I managed to make the effort to get out there to do just this and, with thanks to a very reliable source of mine, was directed to the place where the permanent truck works on a Wednesday. I found the truck instantly and checked out the area, just too bad the driver declined my request to take videos. He said I needed to gain council permission. I called the council number he provided, but the call centre was still closed, so after catching up to him again I asked if I could speak directly with a supervisor. He reckons he didn’t have his supervisor’s phone number (yeh bullshit) and that he already got a negative answer off him over the radio. I tried to tell the driver it wasn't for anything bad, just for interest and advertising, but I couldn’t sway him. Funny I want to video a rare truck and end up coming across a rare driver who says no to videos. All I got away with was this single picture; a very disappointing outcome.

In 2014 SITA purchased another pair of side loaders for the St George contract, seeing the delivery of trucks SL91 and SL92. The pictured truck became dedicated to fortnightly recycling, while the second machine did a combination run of recycle and green-waste depending on the day and week. I can’t recall if these trucks got the St George branding on the body, but even if they did, still looked boring as all hell like the rest of the regional collection fleet... oh the potential for something exciting. The shown 91 also surprisingly got redirected to City of Ryde as a fulltime truck when the new contract started in 2015. Forgive the sunlight glare too :/

Today's my birthday. What a rough year behind. I've been working fulltime and studying in two different schools at the same time. This photo is actually kind of a joke to me but it also really reflects my feelings during last months. Yep. With this I also make promise to chill out a bit in spite of all the fuss around me. I've always managed to stay positive though negative things and that is exactly what I'm going to be again soon! Motto for my 24th year: Focus on happiness!

Out taking pictures and trying new looks this morning. Last night every girl in the club was wearing a scarf and had a man hanging all over them. It’s time to go scarf shopping!

With what was an almost pure MacDonald Johnston fleet, in 2011 this Superior Pak and an identical unit joined the St George contract group of trucks. They were originally meant to be on recycling fulltime, however due to the pendulum not coping too well with cardboard, they were shifted onto other more suitable waste streams. SL80 became a permanent garbage truck for the Rockdale, Hurstville and Kogarah council areas for years, however later got transferred to the Eastern Creek yard as spare SL86. The pictured Superior Pak SL79, was allocated to a combination run, doing garbage in Rockdale 2 days a week and green-waste in Hurstville and Kogarah the remaining 3 days. 79 and 80 were eventually done up in this standard St George livery (or more like signage I guess) featuring each of the former council logos and some benchmark SITA branding. When I worked there years ago I took this out one Wednesday, being the first time I got to use a new Raptor model, as well as drive a Euro 5 ACCO! :O

My thin hair, no makeup, and full of gratitude for my brother’s love after sending him this picture. I wanted to share this milestone text he sent me last month.

Since 2012 my brother has been slowly warming up to my impending transition emotionally and fiscally. I say fiscally because we have grown our company together since 911. This year I started my own company and only hold a small PM/advisory position at our old firm entitled “(last name) brothers”

After three years of hormones and a lifetime of hiding, I am only counting the months remaining before I go full-time.

Woollahra’s #614 is one of the nine Volvo rear loaders in the council fleet, being a fulltime truck used on weekly garbage collections. After the Merc Econic it’s also the youngest big truck in the fleet at about 2 years old. Whilst the council buys Garwood bodies for the little trucks, they’ve been buying the larger compactors off MacDonald Johnston (or Bucher) for a while, getting their first UrBin bodies in 2011 or 2012. The council hasn’t really been much for signage/livery on the trucks, but you may notice something has been peeled off the side... an anti-amalgamation sticker :D It’s cool to see these Woollahra trucks around, as Volvo rear loaders aren’t all that common - a bit of variety is good!

We are finally back home from our Charleston shoots. Here are a few more from the foggy sunrise on Folly Beach. You may need squint. I didn’t put make-up on until later in the morning. (Hence the filter) 😊

This is one of the DAV (difficult access vehicle) units found in Willoughby, 13NM being allocated fulltime to weekly recycling duties. Seen here doing a line of bins from a unit in St Leonards on a Friday morning... all full of only bottles too, perhaps an undiscovered CDS goldmine. This truck also wasn’t part of the Willoughby fleet in the beginning, was actually later substituted with a bigger side loader due to the need for a third DAV vehicle in the area. Always wish these smaller machines were done up in their respective colours instead of this generic green.

Koningsdag Zieuwent 2026 - tourrit & show

Zieuwent, the Netherlands.

“It’s just Business”

My vacation with my family at the North Pacific is over. I was lucky to make it out of Portland just in time before the huge snowfall occurred.

Annika, 20 y/o Norwegian girl, was my next seat companion on the flight from Portland to Reykjavik.

Flight time: 7 hours and 59 min.

Distance (km): 6025

Distance (miles): 3744

We connected immediately and got into a long, interesting conversation.

Annika was born and raised in Norway. "I quickly decided that I wanted to make my life 'more international' and decided to go to an international high school and study for my bachelor's degree in the US.

"When I finished my degree in Political science with a focus on international affairs and Asia, I moved to London to get a degree at King's College London in International Peace and Security, focusing on international law and politics and looking at how war and peace happens."

Annika is a fulltime student and spends most of her free time reading and learning.

"My word of advice to the world would be to just be kind and work hard. I think we can achieve a lot by doing just that.

"Right now I am struggling with accepting the world for how it is. Studying and seeing so much of what international politics is like can be very frustrating when you see how backwards people can be, and how hard it is to push for basic rights and freedoms. It is like a slap in the face any time to stand up to something. I'm trying to find the will to go on in the field and the confidence in my abilities, but it is a challenge.

"I would tell my younger self that just because I can do anything doesn't mean I have to do everything. It is fine to pursue my passions; someone else are probably dreaming of doing what you do as a chore, so you might as well let them. If you really want something, stop dreaming and start doing!"

She loves Oregon and intends to move to Corvallis one day.

"Do you have a boyfriend there?" I asked with a smile. I actually didn't need an answer, but yes, that was the case. Of course, what else, haha :-)

Annika's love of writing brought me to tell her about my writing period in the 1990s. I wrote regularly for the daily Swedish newspaper in Helsinki back then and Annika wanted to know more about it.

Exchanging personal information is a natural matter on such encounters.

It was a pleasure to meet you, Annika. You're such a lovely and smart, young person and I wish you good luck with your M.A. degree.

This is my 421st submission to The Human Family group.

Visit the group here to see more portraits and stories: www.flickr.com/groups/thehumanfamily.

I think I have groupies on the Internet. (giggle-smile-grin!) (Muah!!- that’s a big fat French kiss to you all – giggle).

I think about all you people all the time. REALLY!! Especially as I drive in my car and while I BLARE music. Even as I change my kid’s diapers – YUCK!

Speaking of changing diapers by myself with no woman to help, check out the life of a fulltime single daddy (see picture – duh).

Yes--- you see these two fine individuals in the picture? They are my daughters.

They rule my life.

And tonight (which is Saturday night) I’m blessed enough to able to spend it on flickr and in my apartment (that I rent….. waste of money) while these 2 fine girls sleep in their little girl beds in their room next to me,

But.. here’s the funny part. I don’t think a man (that being me in the middle) is really made by god (the dude in the sky) to do this shit.

Meaning… I have these two fantastic girls and they command me at the same time. But, is a man really supposed to do this alone? This kid raising shit is meant for a woman, right?!?

Ain’t I the breadwinner? Ain’t I the one who HUNTS for the food and brings it home and my woman fucks me after the kids go to bed.

Not so much.

Here’s the reality…..

Change my diaper! Pay attention to me! Cry whine bitch moan and complain! Daddy I want to want watch a movie! I need a napkin. I want a bottle. Give me ketchup (please). Why are you taking pictures? Whuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! Daddy please let me watch TV. I hate this food. I want dessert. I don’t like this. I want a bath. I need to brush my teeth. I want to play. I .. I .. me .. me .. whine .. bitch .. moan .. complain.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“No play with your fucking toys Santa brought you” (minus the F word).

Wipe my ass. Make dinner. Clean the toilet. Buy me everything. Pay attention to me. Make me happy.

Be a man. Be a daddy, that’s your role, bitch (minus the B word).

MAKE BREAKFAST. Even if you are SO MOTHERFUCKING TIRED and the 6-year-old rolls in your room at 6:30 in the FUCKING MORNING and wakes you up.

“I’M TIRED GO AWAY I WORK SO HARD MY JESUS LORD ON EARTH WHY DO YOU WANT STUPID ASS WAFFLES I FEEL SO BAD FOR NOT GETTING UP RIGHT NOW!!!”, thought the single daddy.

But you know what? I can’t help but smile at her.

“Oh babe!! Good morning”, actually said the single daddy (eh).

(in my head------“fuck you!!!").

Voice- “Hi come play Monster with me I love you so much what kind of dreams did you have babe wow”.

Thinking- “MOTHERERFUCKER I’M TIRED IT’S SATURDAY MORNING KID GO AWAY AND WATCH CARTOONS FUCK THIS SHIT”

Fuck it.

I love them both.

And it makes me a better man and a better person that my 6 year old wakes me up on the weekends at UNGODLY EARLY HOURS to say she wants me.

I love her so much. It’s okay. Go watch your cartoons. I’m glad I mean THAT MUCH TO YOU that you feel the need to wake me up when you wake up before me because you obviously aren’t okay with doing this without my approval.

Go about babe.

But you know what?

I’M GOING BACK TO SLEEP!

At least for an hour or so.

Ahhhh.

Right now - It’s Saturday night. Its 10 PM. They are both sleeping. They both rule more than any existence on this planet. And I hope to make them both into the most confident beautiful women than you could ever imagine roamed this earth.

I’m Ryan. I’m a fulltime single daddy. It’s Saturday night. I’m sitting at home. These girls rule my world. And you know what?

I’m OUT.

I love you ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,

Ryan

I’m just starting out and hoping we can share a few topics and stories. Hope to see you there! 😊

I've met a few strangers today, most of them were Californians visiting Portland, as was Sarah here :-)

Sarah, 23 y/o, was born in Pasadena, California.

"I grew up there till about ten and then lived in Arizona for 11 years, then moved back to Los Angeles due to family.

I went to school for aesthetics. I currently work at a barber shop called 'The Executive Cut and Shave' as a receptionist.

I'm going to be attending school again to be a cosmetologist and barber.

My hobby is swing dancing. I have been dancing since I was 12, I do a little bit of everything but mostly swing, Lindy hop, and Charleston.

I go to mostly social dancing events, but will join a friend of mine that's been dancing for a year to his private lessons to help assist while he is learning. I love helping him out with learning and seeing his enthusiasm towards dancing."

"What is your message, a word of advice to the world, Sarah? Anything you would like to share?"

"My advice is to love someone as much as you can before they are gone and to never stay mad. The love of my life, Brandon, passed away back in February of 2014. My biggest regret was that the last time I spoke and saw him, a couple of days before he passed in a car accident, I had been mad at him.

He had a very beautiful free soul. I'm sure he is doing great wherever he is and knows I love and miss him very much, even though I didn't let him know that the last time I saw him."

"What is your struggle/ challenge right now, Sarah?"

"I have a son, Dash Anakin, I love him very much. He is one and a half y/o. I was a fulltime mother up until about a couple of months ago. I then asked his father if he could take care of our son fulltime for a little bit so I could get back on my feet and live on my own--since I had moved to California and was staying with family. He said yes, but took off to Illinois, where he's from, with my son.

The father of my child is a great dad, but unfortunately he is not the kindest person to me.

I have trouble believing I'm a good mother with the situation I've been put in. I'm taking advantage to build my career and be more financially stable so I will be able to have my son fulltime again though. I will do anything to have my son back and provide for him. He's my little man!"

"What advice would you give the younger you, Sarah?"

"I think I would tell the younger me to not pay attention to what everyone has to say about me. It took a while for me to get over that so I could love myself. Also I would have told myself to have not isolated myself so much. I get a lot of social anxiety and sometimes have a hard time getting over it in some situations whether it be with people I know or don't know due to spending so much time alone growing up.

It's funny because I realise I can look really intimidating, but I'm probably more intimated by everyone else. I can be completely fine one day and the next I can be completely closed off to the world.

I feel like going social dancing helps that anxiety sometimes. I hope to fully get over this problem."

BTW, Sarah's chest tattoo says: "one of these days you will learn to love again". It's lyrics from a song called 'Life and Death' by 'The Dear Hunter'.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_AgwXR1Los

Thank you so much, Sarah, for being so open, friendly and kind. I wish you to have the strength to overcome the difficulties in your life right now and get your son back.

Sarah thanked me in an email:

"Thank you for the experience! The pictures are great and my hair looks so blue 💙

I checked out your photo blog. I really enjoyed looking at all the pictures and reading what you had to say about every picture. I bet you are learning a lot about the Portland culture which is really awesome!"

I finished college in 1981 and had my first fulltime job. I taught as an elementary school teacher in Kuwait that fall. I went with a classmate from home and new friends who were new hires too. It was the first time we'd been overseas. The world seems like a much different place.

These images are rough due to the age of the photographs. Over time, I may do a bit of editing on these.

My oldest son Zachary is in his first year of high school. His report card for term 2 came home today.

In the past, his marks were so-so. The effort not much better.

This term he has really applied himself. He takes transit to my parents house each week. They feed and tutor him in Math & French. He walks himself to school and wasn't late once.

He made Honour Roll.

For the first time.

Zack has lived with me fulltime, since he was 2. I don't know I have ever been more proud of him. Not for the certificate. But because of his self-driven effort. His effort.

I'm proud of you Zack.

Here is an update on today’s before and afters.

- I loved how the eyebrow threading cleaned up my bushy mess. Perfect timing for New Years Eve.

- I finally introduced Stephanie to our warehouse manager Karen and she was so sweet to me. (Destiny was out today)

I can’t believe how normal and natural our conversation was after I came down to earth from Karen’s comments. She barley recognized me until I opened my mouth. I’m going blog all about this tomorrow on www.stillverytrans.com

What a liberating day. ☮️💜

And a new fulltime job at Meadway Coaches ...and what a corker of a first job. A charity climb of Snowdon at Night ... I had my legal time off in a rather comfy bunk and had a pretty good nights sleep. Why do i do it, i am starting to feel a bit bitter that i cannot go back on the network fulltime so i torture myself by taking a ride on the services. I came back from Birmingham on the 15.00 319 service to cambridge being operated by selwyns FJ13EBF a Volov B9R / Caetano Levante C48FTL. Photo taken pool Meadow 08/07/14

Deforestation

Collage

160 X 110 cms

Every photo is cut out of National Geographic magazines and glued down onto collaging board.

This collage took me around 4 months of fulltime work…

I am raising funds for a Borneo based charity called HUTAN. I have so far raised more than 2,000€ (2010-2011)through poster sales. Please go to www.hutan.org.my

Amongst the details in this collage you can find:

A herd of cows grazing on a newly deforested region of Brazil’s Amazon basin. Fast food restaurants in the U.S.A. including McDonald’s buy this meat, even though they deny any involvement in deforestation.

To the right, there is a huge area being cleared for growing Soya beans. This crop is then distributed worldwide mainly as animal feed.

Towards the lower centre one can find an illegal farmer, busy planting palms for the palm oil trade. A number of animals are trying to dissuade him: a mouse with a STOP sign, a monkey dropping a large stone on his hand, whilst a giant gerbil is about to give him the fright of his life. Palm oil ends up in a wide variety of products, from fast foods, chocolate and soap to cosmetics and even cleaning products.

Most of the animals in this collage have taken up arms in a desperate attempt to save their ever-shrinking habitat. You can find:

A snow monkey armed with a rifle and cannon.

A grasshopper mouse (shouting orders) equipped with a decorative dagger.

A tiny poison arrow frog wearing a helmet, armed with a silver plated pistol.

A lemur handing over an M-16 assault rifle to a giant kangaroo rat.

A team of meerkats moving a heavy machine-gun into position.

A grizzly bear sniper.

A tortoise complete with crash helmet and a delivery of grenades.

A trio of chimpanzees are launching grenades at a lumberjack about 3 metres away. If you look really closely you can even see their selection of rocket-propelled grenades and launcher!

A clan of prairie dogs are awarding a veteran fighter with a medal, whilst to the left a Philippine tarsier is suffering from shell shock.

A mouse can be seen whispering death threats into the ear of a lumberjack, but he’s closed his eyes and put earplugs in…what a coward!

Elsewhere, some naughty proboscis monkeys are tying a lumberjack’s legs together.

A wild cat is about to shred a logger’s hand to ribbons and a man carrying a large tree trunk is being attacked by a mouse, 2 prairie puppies and a squirrel.

Sadly, a lot of the animals are under threat from exploitation. Here is a list of some of the endangered species I have included in the collage. You can find:

Brown howler monkey (population declining)

Buffy tufted-ear marmoset (vunerable, less than 10 000 individuals)

Burrowing bettong (population 5 000 and rising)

Crowned lemur (vunerable, declining population)
