More images from the Silent Pool and Sherbourne lake, on the Albury Estate near Guildford.

Taken on a miserable rainy day from under an umbrella with a full spectrum converted Lumix DMC-GF3 fitted with a 590nm infrared filter on the lens.

The lakes were flowing through heavily with the amount of water coming off the surrounding land.

Comparison between fullspectrum (see _DSC2523) and infrared 590 NM (_DSC2524).

Chaparral, Mesquite, Yucca and other various Cacti, All look green right now, but photographing with a Full Spectrum Camera, They all reflect UV and IR a bit differently.

This time of year always has the landscape photographer heading to rural areas in search of treasured poppy fields and a few friends found a corker recently!

Claire & I found out the location and headed off in search yesterday to check it out armed with both my normal camera and Infra Red converted camera.

As we scouted the perimeter of the field I took shots with my IR camera then headed into the poppies to get a bit closer when we got down to a beautiful tree alone amongst the poppies.

The worst thing about shooting poppies for me is I suffer from hay fever and knew exactly what was coming after last years outing. Didnt stop sneezing for hours after!

I opened the 7 RAW files in Adobe Camera Raw and used a DNG Profile to correct the custom White Balance I had set in camera as Adobe has real problems with the Kelvin reading with IR shots and makes them pink/red.

After making a few basic adjustments I opened the files in Photoshop CS6 and using Photomerge created the panorama. Due to the nature of stitched shots which look a bit like a pair of goggles when joined I had to then merge the layers and use the Transform Warp tool to pull the corners out otherwise it means cropping the shot a lot and losing some of the interesting elements.

Really to avoid this you should always shoot more of the scene than you need so the empty corners don't effect the final scene.

Once I had got a composition I was happy with I opened the shot in Silver Efex Pro 2 to create a mono version. I used one of the presets then messed with the sliders and opted for an orange filter which boosted the clouds and tree foliage.

The shot looked really cool but I felt I could accentuate them more so decided the way to go would be to use Luminosity Masks to target the specific areas.

I used a curves layer on the 'bright lights' mask and then I used the same technique on the sky to darken it with a 'super darks' mask.

Using Topaz Denoise I removed the noise in the sky then lastly after saving a Tiff and jpeg of the 300dpi file I used Tony Kuyper's resize and sharpen action for the shot to be uploaded to the web. I opted for 900px.

One more Fullspectrum Experiment:

I try to make the best of these days with the same subjects over and over again ... And I'm lucky I have a lot of things to do on my list: It's almost 2 years ago I got some rather strange IR-block filters.

Here I used the B+W #470. It's a blue-greenisch color, pretty dark. It's actually a technical filter, to be honest I didn't understand what exactly it was used for (maybe 40 years ago?), but I understand it blocks IR. On the Fullspectrum camera it's always easy to check this: If you see green more or less normally, IR is more or less blocked.

I needed to custom white balance there photos, again simply on the birches bark. A litte tweaking was necessary. What I get are very rich greens. Magenta comes bold, also, red is more subdued here, but it's not absent. I like the colors quite a bit, I tried to get away from a too extreme rendering, but still the cooler tones are somewhat dominant (or is it just me imagine that?)

I only used this one filter on a Minolta 70-210/4 (the manual focus variant of the famous beercan) and used it wide open (the filter needs a lot of light) and at it's minimum focus distance. Not too bad for an old zoom wide open!

I forced the camera to remove its hot mirror in normal mode (instead of in night shot mode) with a strong neodymium magnet.
