Yup, same sh**, same wavelength, different development however. I like this fire carrot style; first time, never done before (by me). 😊

Man, almost overwhelming how many possibilities there are (now), even for doing "the same" thing, e.g. yellow foliage. But there are differences, nuances, or thing I like or don't (like fringing) to exploit or avoid. I'm trying to stay experimental as long as possible, and to not hone in on something too quickly, I'll do that soon enough I'm sure.

As some of you know Ive had a few Infra Red converted cameras over the last couple of years but after getting my latest, a Panasonic G5 converted to Full Spectrum a while back I found out about a filter made by B&W called the 403 which is a dual band filter. This filter mainly passes UV light in the 300-375nm range and a small amount of IR from 710-775nm.

The result is that you get a sortve monochrome image but with blue/purple skies that I really liked!

Now as I say I had wanted this filter for ages but as it wasnt available anywhere in the UK it kept getting put to the back of my never ending list! Roll onto last week and as I was in NYC I knew that B&H would have the filter (theyve got practically everything!) so I made another visit which was 3 of 4 on the trip haha!

On one day we were heading into Central Park so I took the G5 with the various filters and made a beeline for Bow Bridge.

Its difficult to get a shot here on a summers day as there was at least 50 people on the bridge!

To get this look its pretty much making sure the white balance is set right with the filter on then a little tweek with the Hue to get the sky how you want it. The biggest challenge is with the filters density as its practically opaque and gives a 4 stop reduction. Unless its really sunny its tricky to shoot handheld at around f7.1 which I find is best for the lens I use.

Used Constrastly-Retro & Vintage preset to process this image to replicate my vision of what 35mm film can look like...sprinkled with a little grain too. I love the look of film.

It's cool that an exposure of just 3sec, which isn't too long in non-photographic terms, makes these small seemingly random ripples on the surface, when viewed live, into solid forms/patterns. Maybe a future project on it's own, to focus in on something like that.

Source for this is a 360° mercator projection, build from a total of 42 photos, ~420,1MP trimmed, cropped to 8:5 aspect ratio with 23532 x 14707px and ~346,1MP, probably around 320° angle of view.

Also from my semi motivated post summer hike, classic b&w this time, but via a false-color development (the 720nm 'winter land scape') first to have more wiggle room for tweaking. The dark field in the foreground was freshly plowed. 🚜

Part of the reason why I'm not very active here recently is that my right hand is still bothering me (the tendon thing), unfortunately. While I was collecting tons of infrared panoramas (~200GB sitting on some disc now) over the summer, in an effort to get away from the computer (clicking, which I couldn't do much of), eventually the active part of my semi-pathetic photographic endeavors came to a screeching halt as well now, since there is really limited sense or appeal in producing heaps of photos without the ability to develop them. 😕

Positive aspect (gotta look out for these too, ..right?); this really showed me the place and value of photography in my / this life 😳, and that surfing Flickr and connecting with what you guys are doin' without sharing some of my own is nice too (..beware of too much inspiration without outlet though). 😧

I picked up reading, which kinda fell dormant in recent times, but I do a lot of now / again. Currently going / tripping down some deep philosophical / metaphysical rabbit hole I had stuck in the back of my mind for years.

Ironically, IR photography partially led to or prepared the ground for this also.. but that's a story for another day. 😜

Ok, part 2 of the "lost gorge series", in no particular order by the way.

As nice as the small and medium size waterfalls are, one is mostly tucked away under the forest canopy, but before the last one-way section begins, where it gets really steep and narrow (I would not want to descent this part without a rope), it opens up.

The sunlight floods in midday, and the stream divides sometimes creating small islands and there are huge bolders, fallen trunks dam up all sorts of stuff a couple of meters high. Weird artefacts (trash?) can be found that's literally 4-5 decades old, just laying there, half buried.

What I like most is perhaps the sense of isolation, there is no way of entering this place from the top or the sides (well, a dead body could fall / roll down potentially), really peaceful and I spent a good 15-20min just sitting on the rock in front with the warm sun on my back until the shadows moved in, then I did the panorama and moved on.

That's one of those panoramas that seem to contain "a lot", even though a given angle of view is just what it is, so most things look small, at least in this format. A mega-large print would perhaps be nice with this, to "walk around in"?

Okay, so I actually did two panoramas at this spot, that's the first one, the overview one could say, because the last meters to the shore and this stay that's essentially just a wobbly plank were just darn steep.

So I thought, I will just do one as long as I can before I fall in and drown my gear down there. 😜 To be continued..

Technically this is 200°+ mercator projection, build of 27 individual photos, trimmed 18863 x 15371px ~290MP, cropped to 1x1 with 11926px² ~142,2MP. Due to the ² format and Flickr's 'best display size', this lends itself to zooming in. I recommend it. This was a pretty shady spot, sunlight coming from behind but got absorbed by thick forest, that's why the extended shutter speed. It was tricky to expose.
