Okay, so this was end of February, not much snow that year so it's already melting away, but not quite, the fields are still sort of half-covered, which makes for some interesting patterns.

I used one of my Minolta lenses, they produce distinct results on the infrared spectrum, usually more on the contrasty side, strong shadows, sometimes halation around clouds, I don't know, kind of 'rough and punchy' overall, if that makes any sense?

Source for this were 7 photos, shot in protrait orientation, trimmed ~65,4MP, that I cropped to a semi-panoramic format with 8263 x 4263px, ~35,2MP.

Huh 🤔, I kind of overlooked that one, that is from the first forest lake lookout panorama and in fact offers something different. The higher vantage point, making the water more prominent, it's also not enframed by the water grass and stuff (as nice as it is) which makes it more open and in the lake I feel, and there was also a breeze going, together with slow af D90 (with the R72 on) diffusing the reflection gently. Some cloudiness as well, ..little bit at least. 😋

Taken from a 200°+ angle of view mercator projection, build of 27 individual photos, trimmed 18863 x 15371px ~290MP, cropped to a panoramic 12003 x 4577px, ~55MP.

That was a nice (and productive) summer day, good memories, I was really going with this IR panorama setup I had put together at that time.

I do have a false-color development also, but this was clearly my first choice even over classic b&w, it just made sense and brought some coherence, or made the image more homogenous perhaps, so.. here we are.

This a vertical crop of a 360° mercator projection consisting of 42 individual photos, 22631 x 12669px ~286,7MP, down to ~206,5MP.

Still taking a 'break from testing' 😁, waiting for yet another filter to arrive. 😩 I hate it when test results are inconclusive, and it does actually help to see a tendency e.g. the longer the wavelength the shorter the focus. I do utilize the IR marks on the vintage lenses, but it's not as precise as I want it to be.

Or how the focus-change of zoom lenses changes with different wavelength, but that's rather far out I guess, not sure yet if there is a definitive pattern.

But me being out there a lot, moving around on foot, sometimes I call it scouting 😋, getting more experience with my handheld IRG setup. It's perfectly good for an informational shot, and there is of course always the chance of taking the occasional nice photo as well. Even though it's technically winter, just got some snow again.

Do you see the daytime moon(s)? It was pretty overcast actually, very diffuse light, and I'm pleasantly surprised how much of the IR characteristic still comes through (the clouds!), despite the plenty-ness of visible light.

So this is the second panorama I took at this location, now down by the water, I wanted to get as close to these tufts of grass as possible.

One tripod leg were on this wobbly plank, the others on the steep shore, which is all visible in the original, but since I got quite a bit of surrounding forest too, the lake and grass and stuff would have been secondary when showing all that. So I decided to go 'all in' with a more regular format, since I went square² with the first one already:

Again, late afternoon, the light from the side creating a lot of depth, on top of some ok infrared characteristic, plus bewildered beasts of course. 😜 They were like: "What on earth is this thing doing?"

That is the last bit of the boulder hopping section, part 18 of the "lost gorge series". The preview I produced was quite misleading, I thought I overexposed the whole thing, but the highlights are ok actually and I found a crop too.

Alright, the false-color to b&w monochrome conversion of this was a breeze cause the things I cherish or want were already there, so it was more like keeping them intact.

I like all the details, but there are still spaces / places for the eye to rest (like the meadows retracting into the distance, becoming smooth etc.) providing a balance, so that the panorama does not become too hyperactive with that sort of sky.

I also had a nice chat with the people and the lovely dog there as well as shocking myself twice on the electric fence while crouching unter it making my tripod touch the wire. Apparently my IR camera didn't mind..
