I used my trusty vintage ROKKORs again, so there is some punch and roughness in there and the halation with some of the clouds does not come from stitching, it's the lens' performance on the near IR spectrum. Sometimes it's nice, sometimes not, ..as usual.

More new school IR stuff, ..to refresh a distant distant memory, the good old days where the sun actually came out occasionly. Nice to see some details n flowers too, with the panoramic stuff I often do, small things become tiny, and then almost disappear in the image.

More towards the end of a long infrared safari, already overcast so no direct sunlight, therefore the foliage / plants are not shining too heavily. But the IR characteristic is still there.
I like how the fields form kind of a mosaic pattern, looking different depending on the vegetation or the soil. I was once there with my 80-200mm AI-S (which is nice for IR when operated carefully) and discovered a distinct pattern in one of the fields, but only the IR spectrum made it visible. Wonder what that is about. Maybe there was once a construction (drainage?), due to its clearly man-made shape..

Happy weekend, y'all! I'm back to my "old" panorama ways, three row composites with the Tamron. Not that there wasn't any effort involved, no, but I have to admit that this piece was a real blast to arrange, develop, tune and crop etc. Good fun.
The main composition was clear-cut and promising, and there are three crops inherent in it that were also as obvious as nice. I went for the blue-n-white development first and then converted to monochrome, but decided to share the main pano in b&w (it lives more off the contrast) and left the false-color route for my favorite crop (because the sky is more prominent there), which you can find here:

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did an do, cheers ❤
Technically this one is a 8:5 aspect ratio crop (175,4MP), covering about 180° angle of view, of a multi-row IR panorama, consisting of 27 individual images, arranged in a mercator projection yielding (trimmed) 18591 x 15399px (~286,3MP).

Just randomness, also from my post-summer hike this year, after-noon, I was returning home and there is of course some rural stuff going on. Couple of sheep left to the shed, some chickens in the center and cows in the back as well.
The old farm house is missing a good junk, they demolished that recently, I remember when this was still there, I 'let' myself in one day and there were all sorts of ancient machinery and weird things, ..history! That was pretty cool, I think I took some photos too (..of course 😜).
A b&w conversion also based on a false-color development. Going monochrome directly with 720nm is totally okay, the sky usually shows a nice gradient, however, I just love me a pitch black "IR-sky".
I wonder how this works with longer / 'deeper' wavelength, ..but due to a very happy accident, I will have the opportunity to find out soon, but I don't want to get too or prematurely excited about that. Another story for another day (as usual).

More old stuff, but good stuff, at least I feel that way. I really had to put some time into this one, but I think it was worth it.
Imagine, a panorama with many images, if there is a hotspot issue, then it's a "good" one, believe me. So I had to take care of that.
It appears one the most important things to do (for me) with these projects is to not discourage myself right away.
Keeping it simple, not to overthink, starting, doing every step as good as possible, staying at it, and then at the and and only then does it make sense to judge the whole thing. It's not perfect, but I'm quite pleased with the outcome.
However, when done, I viewed the exported files full screen, and I was like wtf happend? Banding! A lot (in the sky)!
I first really wrestled with or addressed this with my mountain lake panos (with the cool pine tree), and ..well, I learned a lot too, so it's not all bad. But I was pretty disappointed, not willing to start this over, cause what could I do different other than work as clean as possible. Introduce noise maybe, or a sky replacemnt which I don't do.
So I went for a run in the woods and after an hour or so, it clicked, something came to my mind while not thinking about the whole issue. And it turned out to be true, I verified it when I was back.
My source photos are clean, *sigh*, it's my image viewer! Not all but most of the issue comes from poorly downscaling my usually huge images. I'm wondering how much of the mountain lake pano hustle was due to that, cause this was not apparent to me at that time.
Anyway, so essentially, all this is mostly out of my control. It's the nature of the JPG format itself, software like viewers or mine and your browser handling image files and also Flickr, scaling photos to different sizes which is thankfully not too bad actually. So that is that.., not that anybody asked.
Technically that is mercator projection, consisting of 42 individual photos, 417,2MP, cropped to 8:5 with 16518 x 10363px, 171,8MP.
