The Oosterschelde is a three-masted schooner from the Netherlands, built in 1918. She is the largest restored Dutch freightship and the only remaining Dutch three-masted topsail schooner. Her home port is Rotterdam..

As a freighter with a deadweight of 400 tons, she transported mainly clay, stone and wood, but also herring, bran, potatoes, straw and bananas. In the 1930s, a heavier diesel engine was installed and some sail-rigging was removed (including the aft mast). In 1939, she was sold to a Danish shipping company and, rebaptised Fuglen II, became one of the most modern ships in the Danish fleet. In 1954, she was sold to a Swede, renamed Sylvan and thoroughly rebuilt to a modern motorised coaster..

.

In 1988, she was brought back to the Netherlands. She had always been maintained well, but restoration to the original state turned out too expensive for private funding. So a foundation collected money from various sources, partly by selling shares in the ship. Restoration lasted from 1990 to 1992, with the help of her last Dutch captain, Jan Kramer, and three maritime museums to ensure authenticity..

.

From 1996 through 1998 she made a trip around the world (route: Red Sea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, New-Zealand, Cape Horn, Antarctic, Açores). Maintenance is paid for through paying passengers and company presentations. A new voyage around the world started on November 3, 2012 and will end in May 2014. This will bring the ship to Cabo Verde, Brazil, Cape Of Good Hope, Mauritius, Cape Leeuwin, New Zealand, Cape Horn and Antarctica.

This bird shaped brooch was found by Arnt Kristoffersen in Græsli, Tydal in 1878. The discovery received attention since it was found together with 2253 silver coins and several smaller pieces of hacksilver (fragments of cut silver pieces sometimes used as currency.) The whole treasure weighed 2248 grams and is the second largest coin-discovery on Norwegian soil. It is reasonable to assume that the treasure was probably hidden sometime after 1080.

The discovery was done on farmland at a place where it had been a mound of stones. More than 2000 of the coins stems from the time of Olav Kyrre’s reign (1067 – 1093), while eight of them is from the father Harald Hardråde’s time. All the coins are minted in Trondheim, while 200 of them have foreign origin.

Why the treasure is placed in a mound of stones outside the beaten path in Tydal, no one really knows. The travel route to Sweden is not far away, but the treasure could have been on its way to Trondheim. It is estimated that the value of the treasure was equal to 30 – 40 cows in 1080.

May 1 2014

This place is seriously cool! It's a furniture store/coffee shop/cocktail bar serving Tim Wendelboe coffee, along with some other local Norwegian coffee roasters' fare. All the furniture in the store (that you sit on as you drink your coffee/cocktails) is for sale. Interesting concept.

Snuppede dette foto. (For noget tid siden - Lagt op d. 27.02.2022.) Den var i gang med at synge sin sang. Dette foto passer nu meget godt. (I ved: Sammen med Musvitten.) Disse to arter koeksistere gerne i de samme områder. Man kan læse mere om denne fugl her: da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bl%C3%A5mejse Samt høre fuglens stemme + Enjoy 😊

Anyway… Just waiting for the good news to arrive. (It's probably gonna take a while.) Indtil da, ha’ det godt <3
