Ducks have 360 degree vision. I sat on my behind and every time this female dove, I robbed closer and closer until it finally resurfaced very close to me and I could capture this full-size image.

I worked this female for more than one hour. Her persistence eventually paid off - after 4 unsuccessful attempts, she finally got her meal, which she then carried over quite a distance to a more secluded perch. That's when I captured this image.

In California, the great blues mainly go after smaller fish, such as smelt and perch, but they don't shy away from reptiles, frogs or larger bass, either. They mainly find fish in our local ponds in the San Francisco Bay Area.

An Acorn Woodpecker pushing off a tree trunk to move an acorn from one hiding spot to another.

Taken at Lake Lagunitas, which is a paradise for acorn woodpeckers. The lake features insects to feed on in addition to all the acorns from the surrounding trees. When you go hiking there, you can hear their calls from pretty much everywhere. ✔️
