The people of Cape Verde were very friendly and open. Sometimes it was hard for our guide to avoid being dragged into some long conversation with people we meet on our route.
I have no idea how fortune cookies are so accurate.But they are amazingly discerning. This is the one I received at a chinese restaurant in NYC summer 2008.
Please look at the following shots (in comments). I really loved both of these birds, but especially this one coming to greet me. What I also loved it how he started looking excited that I was about to scratch his head. :-D
I drive past these horses every day; today I had to stop and grab a picture of these beautiful creatures.
As I approached the fence, I saw four horses loitering in a rear corner of the pen. When they saw me, they casually walked over to greet me. I would have greeted them in return, with affectionate face petting, but I don't know how kindly the owner takes to people molesting his/her horses.
This "horse ranch" is really just a large, fenced-in backyard with a modest stable. It is located on a quite residential street in North Richland Hills, TX; it is really quite surprising when you see it for the first time.

This raccoon paid me a surprise visit while I was fishing off a 10ft cement bridge. I caught a fish and I think he wanted it. I was in the middle of the bridge with my camera about to take a fish picture when he showed up and scared the bejesus out of me. Yes he is 4-5ft away and no I didn't get the fish pic. The fish went flying back in the water but I did get the raccoons expression on camera. He pays me a visit every time I go fishing there now but he never gets this close. All rights reserved.
