Sue and I used to go to Friendly's all the time when we were young, but neither of us had been to one in decades. So we finally brought the kids to one, and were pleased to discover that it's still pretty good.

Even though it is slow, short ride, we really enjoyed the ride on the Cloquet Terminal on their Fourth of July train rides.
Can't say enough how friendly the CTRR people were around this train. Marcus exchanges a wave with the regular CTRR job just west of the Sappi paper mill.
This squirrel almost came right up to me as I sat inside Mound Cemetery at Marietta Ohio. I found several places where peanut shells covered the ground under the trees so I suspect he was hoping I had brought more. Next time I'll have to remember to take food.
If you live in a colder northern climate make sure you harvest the last of the herbs from the garden for your pantry. It's the perfect time to pick some sage for Thanksgiving, the last of the oregano for hearty Italian soups this winter, there's probably some mint left as well for soothing winter teas, and the last of the basil should be picked before the frost nips it. You sure will regret not doing it when you see the price of organic dried basil at the market mid-winter!

on a walk near Horta de sant Joan we met a small herd of goats. this goat looked very friendly and curious. It is a special breed of goats raised in this part of Catalonia.

There were two of these relatively uncommon birds on the shore, poking around in the mud for goodies, not caring at all about the two photographers nearby. Then a flock of Western Sandpipers flew in and rudely chased the plovers away.
