Another negative that has been rescanned and reprocessed to produce an improved result. The original image, uploaded seven years ago, has been deleted.

 

The shot was taken at Hartlepool while on a week-long Eastern Region Railrover ticket, and features class 37 unit 37160 hauling a rake of COVHOPS, possibly carrying lime destined for the nearby Steetley Works from Thrislington or Coxhoe Quarry.

 

Above the loco can be seen the floodlights of the Victoria Ground, home of Hartlepool United FC and, to the left of that, is the dog track - now demolished and replaced by a Morrisons food store. The signal box is just visible through the girders of the barn-like structure on the right.

 

In the brake van the Guard has his coat hung up, and he's no doubt thinking about the imminent arrival and any tasks he needs to perform before signing off.

 

The station and surroundings were looking pretty uncared for by this time, hardly unusual for the period. Even so, I suspect there would still be a queue to go back and take a few more snaps, should the opportunity ever come up!

On my visit last summer freight traffic was rather sparse on the Phyrnbahn. It was the Friday after an unknown to me Thursday holiday which likely did not help things. The ÖBB freight I did manage was the morning DG 54791 (Linz Vbf - Graz Vbf). I did not have any info on the freight traffic so between passenger trains I camped out just south of the northbound photo curve in Windischgarsten so I could easily reposition (as easily as one can by bike) for either direction. As luck would have it I was able to shoot two southbounds, first a DB Cargo train and then this much more interesting 1142 powered move.

With morning mist and cloud clinging to the mountains around Glen Truim, 66421 approaches Dalwhinnie with the 4H47 05:05 Mossend Up Yard to Inverness 'Tesco' intermodal working.

 

This working usually pauses at Dalwhinnie for some time, to allow for the pathing of passenger trains through the single track section to the north. This gives photographers a chance to 'jump' the train and get another shot further north.

ET22-281 with set of tankers with heavy hydrocarbons from Gdańsk Refinery passes the short part of the line no. 226 before joins the mainline in Pruszcz Gdański. The vast majority of the trains used the track no. 1, opposite for the direction they were running, because the track no. 2 (on the left) was in such bad condition, the max speed allowed there was 10 kmph. ET22-281 ze skłądem cystern dla ciężkich węglowodorów wyekspediowanym z Rafinerii Gdańskiej przemierza krókim odcinkiem linii nr 226 zanim połączy się z głównym szlakiem w Pruszczu Gdańskim. Pociąg jedzie torem niewłaściwym, gdyż tor nr 2 tej linii był na tym odcinku w tak kiepskim stanie, że maksymalna prędkość zostałą ograniczona do 10 km/h, więc większość pociągów używała toru 1. jadąc w obu kierunkach. 13 kwietnia 2003 roku.

One of the few good looking locomotives class 43 of BDZ-TP (BDZ Cargo) - 43 552 is approaching Sofia with the morning freight train from Mezdra in a snowy and cold winter day.

A long freight train speeds out of the fog on a cold winter morning.

Wegen Bauarbeiten war mehrere Wochen die Strecke zwischen Weiden und Marktredwitz gesperrt, dies hatte Umleitungen der sonst hier planmäßig verkehrenden Güterzüge zur Folge. Bei den Zügen von/nach Cheb betraf das die Züge 45366 und 45367, die nun, statt über Weiden, über das Pegnitztal geführt wurden. Am Abend des 07.06.2024 wartete eine größere Gruppe Fotografen auf den 45366 in Zips (bei Pegnitz). 233 314 kam mit dem fotogen zusammengestellten Zug im besten Abendlicht vorbei.

Ty45-20 with the freight train passes Głuszyca Górna ex-station? Not at all, it's just an event train 88050 for railfans with nice freight outfit on February 10, 2001. The travellers were in first two wagons (equipped with coal or coke-fired heating stoves). Unfortunatelly the negative film I took that day went bad through the years and again, Piotrek must have been curating it in Gimp couple of hours to preserve all these puffs of smoke around. The overall effect is not the best but I appreciate all efforts he made to make it possible to show.

Ty45-20 z pociągiem towarowym w Głuszycy Górnej? Nic z tych rzeczy, to tylko imprezowy pociąg 10 lutego 2001 roku, numer 88050 relacji Wałbrzych Główny - Kłodzko Główne. Uczestników "zakwaterowano" w brankardach (w których zainstalowane były "kozy" na węgiel czy koks).

Niestety negatyw, który wówczas miałem strasznie spsiał przez te lata i Piotrek (znów) musiał sporo wysiłku włożyć, by zachować piękne kłęby pary nad parowozem. Chociaż końcowy efekt nie zadowala mnie w pełni, to chylę czoła przed jego umiejętnościami i cierpliwością (nie wiem, co większe).

Duo of Czech 740-class locomotives (740.426 and 740.638) with international freight train 661010 from Meziměsti to Rogoźnica (here you can read the story about this very train, worth reading) approach Boguszów Gorce Wschód junction. Before it happens, the train will pass the area that used to be a freight station (Boguszów Gorce Towarowy, formerly Fellhammer Güterbahnhof) just after this curve. It seems more than 50 years ago the station tracks were dismantled. July 4, 2021.
