New York & Atlantic train RS-40 passes under the modern position light signal bridge at Bellerose on its way eastbound out of Fresh Pond Yard. The NY&A is an Anacostia Pacific (i.e., PHL, etc.) operation that operates revenue freight over the Long Island Railroad's tracks. While chasing them in suburban traffic isn't really practical, we were treated to a rush of LIRR commuter trains while we waited for them to get here!
On my visit last summer freight traffic was rather sparse on the Phyrnbahn. It was the Friday after an unknown to me Thursday holiday which likely did not help things. The ÖBB freight I did manage was the morning DG 54791 (Linz Vbf - Graz Vbf). I did not have any info on the freight traffic so between passenger trains I camped out just south of the northbound photo curve in Windischgarsten so I could easily reposition (as easily as one can by bike) for either direction. As luck would have it I was able to shoot two southbounds, first a DB Cargo train and then this much more interesting 1142 powered move.

The early afternoon discharged tanks from the oil terminal at Theale to Robeston emerge from Chipping Sodbury Tunnel led by #60010 on Thursday the 9th of September 2010.
The freight traffic from Burgas has been slowly, but steadily increasing over the past year. Last week, an additional tanker train left for Sofia in between the two regular evening freights. The shiny 46 036 was chosen to drive it.
In October of 1990, recently-restored Pere Marquette Berkshire #1225 pulled some freight trains on CSX's Plymouth Subdivision between Plymouth and Grand Rapids. These trips were test runs to see how the engine performed as a prelude to the locomotive's big trip to Huntington, WV the following year for the NRHS convention. They marked the first time since 1951 that a PM steam locomotive had operated on PM rails, and by all accounts were a success. The west-bound trip is seen here at the east end of Trowbridge in East Lansing, where #1225 was displayed for nearly 25 years at Michigan State University.

In the comments of this photo: flic.kr/p/2mdXzNW that I posted yesterday Frank Keller reminded me that I did actually shoot another real "revenue" freight on the bridge. I suppose the reason I forgot was because well....look at this. Terrible afternoon light on a hazy mid summer day shooting toward the sun coupled with about the most unappealing consist you could ask for with a one unit wonder leading a string of empty 'bare tables' is pretty forgettable don't you think?!
SD70MAC 4006 leads a string of empty 89 ft deck flats south as train 192S an extra military train that delivered equipment north to Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks and was headed back to Anchorage. They are seen here at MP 284.2 sailing nearly 300 ft above Hurricane Gulch on the more than 900 ft long bridge built in 1921.

ST44-1113 with early morning regular freight train TMWSc 59582 from Gdynia Port GPW to KWK Halemba leaves Żukowo Wschodnie station. August 14, 2006.
For a couple of years it was said that freight trains on old Coal Trunk Line was a result of PKP PLK's track access charges policy which made the cost of freight trains on unelectrified secondary lines far less in comparison to electrified mainlines. I'm not sure whether it was a case, or rather the problems with mainline capacity, anyway it let railway photographers make many pictures of freight trains here, as up to three Southbound trains were running during daylight (this one to KWK Halemba, tankers to Puławy Azoty, and the third to Chełm Wschodni). They were quite punctual, although not running everyday, except of this very one, that was every day certainty.

Dosłownie kilka lat PKP Cargo przeprowadziło trzy pary pociągów towarowych z Gdyni starą Magistralą Węglową - mówiło się iż z powodu określonej polityki PKP PLK, promującej jazdę po drugorzędnych niezelektryfikowanych liniach (faktem jest, że Lotos swój pionierski dalekobieżny pociąg z Gdańska do Emilianowa trasował w znakomitej większości trasy liniami bez druta). Nie wiem, czy to był prawdziwy powód, niemniej stanowiło to nie lada gratkę dla fotografów. Latem wszystkie trzy pociągi na południe jechały w porze dziennej. Oprócz tego na zdjęciu - codziennego pewniaka - z Gdyni wyruszały jeszcze towarowe do Puław (głównie beczki) oraz Chełma (na ogół węglarki).

The Zillertalbahns freight services are still going strong three years after the resumption of service. The trains schedule remains basically the same with a approximately 7:30 departure from Jenbach to Fügen which works out well in the long summer days. Unlike last year I got the freight on the first attempt. The train is seen here entering the Ziller Valley at Strass.
After New England Central train 324 outlawed at White River Junction, local crew 600 took the train the rest of the way to Brattleboro. The train is passing one of the many farms with an impressive tractor set up. Photo taken Putney, VT

Duo of Czech 740-class locomotives (740.426 and 740.638) with international freight train 661010 from Meziměsti to Rogoźnica (here you can read the story about this very train, worth reading) approach Boguszów Gorce Wschód junction. Before it happens, the train will pass the area that used to be a freight station (Boguszów Gorce Towarowy, formerly Fellhammer Güterbahnhof) just after this curve. It seems more than 50 years ago the station tracks were dismantled. July 4, 2021.

Freightliners 70018 passes through Farleaze Nr Chipping Sodbury on 10th September 2015 with 7O70 Wentloog - Southampton intermodal.
66740 with 6S94,the Wembley-Irvine china clays on 24/6/2020. With the freights booked to cross near Gisburn in the Ribble Valley this overbridge looked to be the best option to get both.There were obviously problems later with this train as RTT shows it stuck at Blea Moor for some 7 hours !

GBRF 66790 speeds through Seaham station with a Tyne coal Terminal to Drax power station biomass train on the second of August 2021.
A PHL switch crew switches out carload freight traffic in one of the railroad's yards near Long Beach. While mostly a container hauler for the Ports of LA and Long Beach, the PHL does maintain a healthy about of carload traffic.

Ty45-20 with the freight train passes Głuszyca Górna ex-station? Not at all, it's just an event train 88050 for railfans with nice freight outfit on February 10, 2001. The travellers were in first two wagons (equipped with coal or coke-fired heating stoves). Unfortunatelly the negative film I took that day went bad through the years and again, Piotrek must have been curating it in Gimp couple of hours to preserve all these puffs of smoke around. The overall effect is not the best but I appreciate all efforts he made to make it possible to show.

Ty45-20 z pociągiem towarowym w Głuszycy Górnej? Nic z tych rzeczy, to tylko imprezowy pociąg 10 lutego 2001 roku, numer 88050 relacji Wałbrzych Główny - Kłodzko Główne. Uczestników "zakwaterowano" w brankardach (w których zainstalowane były "kozy" na węgiel czy koks).
Niestety negatyw, który wówczas miałem strasznie spsiał przez te lata i Piotrek (znów) musiał sporo wysiłku włożyć, by zachować piękne kłęby pary nad parowozem. Chociaż końcowy efekt nie zadowala mnie w pełni, to chylę czoła przed jego umiejętnościami i cierpliwością (nie wiem, co większe).

ET22-459 with coal train passes the north freight bypass of Poznań in direction Naramowice block and further probably towards Szczecin. September 17, 2004.
Although the landscape in Greater Poland is flat, here the raiilroad has to cross Warta river and its small valley, so this rail viaduct was constructed together with entire bypass in 1970. This viaduct with the bridge over Warta is about 1 km long.

ET22-459 z "węgrlarzem" na towarowej obwodnicy Poznania (linia 395) w kierunku Naramowic, a może i dalej do Szczecina. 17 września 2004 roku.
Chociaż teren w Wielkopolsce jest płaski jak naleśnik, to akurat w tym miejscu Warta tworzy małą dolinę i aby ją pokonać, wybudowano w 1970 roku, razem z całą obwodnicą, tę estakadę. Razem z mostem nad Wartą tor nad ziemią prowadzony jest na odcinku ok 1 km.

The nightly Alaska Railroad 130S freight from Fairbanks to Anchorage was running very late this particular morning affording the rare opportunity for shots in daylight on the mainline. They have just crossed the long Knik River bridge and are swinging around a bluff to head south toward their final terminal in this view from the Old Glenn Hwy overpass at ARR milepost 145.6.
The moderately sized train of 4344 ft and 6731 trailing tons trailing three SD70MACs is heavy with jet fuel from Flint Hills Resources in North Pole destined for the Anchorage International Airport. Alas the 85,000 bpd refinery whose production once accounted for 40% of the railroad's revenue is no more having shut down for a multitude of economic and political reasons in 2014 and being demolished two years later after operating since 1977. Providing a dramatic backdrop 15 miles distant on the far side of the wide Matanuska Valley past Palmer is the 6093 ft summit of Matanuska Peak in the Chugach Mountains.
