This Freckled Duck (Stictonetta naevosa) doing a wing stretch was certainly a surprise to see at a local lake recently. It had not been reported on eBird, so I had no idea it was there.
A 2021 review of this species' conservation status (bio-prd-naturekit-public-data.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws...) suggested it be listed as Endangered, with an estimated 150-2000 mature individuals remaining across Victoria. They are also a highly nomadic species, so I was lucky to cross paths with this one.

I don't know why, but almost everyone in my close family has got freckles. And I love it. There must be something in our dna, I think. This is Maku , again. Have a sweet day :)
My son and I are having fun going through my father's negatives, found this shot of me that I don't remember him taking but it was 43 years ago :)
'tis the season for fungi and a rare one just pops up in the garden!
A Freckled Dapperling, also known as Echinoderma asperum and previously as Lepiota freisii - confusing taxonomy.

I know, it's rare that i upload a portrait-format shot but i loved it that way. this is from another conceptual series. I have so many shootings to process right now, i don't know when to do it...

It's been a few months since I've gotten some new photos. Even though it's been a little tough on me, it's nice to dig through all the photos I missed in the past when I had plenty of time and shot too many to edit. This was one of those images that was lost along the way.
Australia’s rarest waterfowl, the Freckled Duck breeds in swamps in inland Australia. When these wetlands dry out in the summer months, the Freckled Ducks are forced to disperse towards coastal and subcoastal wetlands, usually swamps where there is much fallen timber that they can loaf amongst. Sometimes, if there is a drought, there may be few of these wetlands available for them, so they may congregate into flocks on whatever wetlands are available, sometimes giving the impression that they are more common than they really are.

These beautiful Freckled Ducks, despite their Endangered status in Victoria, fall victim to hunters during Victoria's duck hunting season. It's unfathomable that in 2020, with all of the threats that our native species face in Australia, that this barbaric practice is still legal.

Is this the worlds cutest fish? 🐡
Freckled Porcupinefish (Diodon holocanthus)
Luckily for everyone on the planet, this porcupinefish has an enormous distribution and is found in every tropical ocean!
That cute little beak isn't just for smiling, but for breaking apart the shells of crustaceans and molluscs, their favourite food! It mainly hunts at night but can be found during the day at low-tide in rock pools.
When threatened, the porcupinefish will suck up water and inflate itself into a spiky balloon, making it difficult for predators to try and eat it!
Call me crazy, I am.
And you (you know who you are, ow me that drag photoshot now ;) )
Double set of freckles, you can see the real ones in the white parts...

(best seen big)
I have a freckle inside of my iris.
Colors are real:
- faint blue on the rim
- light green on the middle
- light brown on the center
I'll release the freckle overlay compilation soon. Atm there are 18 different freckle textures and 8 body freckle textures (+hands). You'll need RaceMenu.
What you basically do: Mix some freckle textures with different opacities and colors. In this screenshot, I've mixed a dense small freckle texture with a dense big freckle texture. There are also "subtle" and "standard" ones to use. For lighter skin tones, I highly recommend opacity < 50%.
To-do-list: Fix up seams for body freckles. and some other, minor adjustments

The setting sun made for a wonderful golden colour across a local lake, all I needed was a bird to swim through it. I was stoked when this infrequent visitor swam by to check me out!
