1598
Alfonso II, the last Duke of the Este family, dies and the territories of the Duchy of Ferrara pass to the Papal State. In the meantime, the Po Delta advanced northwards with branches of Tramontana, Levante and Scirocco.
The Po di Tramontana, in particular, began with its sediments to raise the depths of the lagoon towards Chioggia.
1600-1604
For fear that the north-eastern expansion of the Delta would bury the Venice lagoon, in the early 1600s the Po was diverted south towards the Sacca di Goro with an artificial canal which is its current bed. This intervention called "Taglio di Porto Viro", determined the beginning of the formation of the modern Delta.
The old bed became a navigable canal, the Canal Bianco-Po di Levante. If before 1600 the Delta expanded by about 53 hectares a year, from 1604 to 1840 it increased to 135 hectares a year.

This lizard was basking in the sunshine, Arne RSPB reserve Dorset. It's a male in its breeding colours.
According to Wildlife Trust website:
The sand lizard is extremely rare due to the loss of its sandy heath and dune habitats. Reintroduction programmes have helped establish new populations.
Restricted to a few isolated areas in Dorset (my home county), Hampshire, Surrey and Merseyside. Reintroduced into other areas in the South East, South West and Wales.

The adder is the UK's only venomous snake, but its poison is generally of little danger to humans: an adder bite can be painful and cause a inflammation, but is really only dangerous to the very young, ill or old. If bitten, medical attention should be sought immediately, however. Adders are secretive animals and prefer to slither off into the undergrowth rather than confront and bite humans and domestic animals; most attacks happen when they are trodden on or picked up. Instead, they use their venom to immobilise and kill their prey of small mammals, nestlings and lizards.

Here, people say it could be a business.
"Fog export" is an ironic expression and a lighthearted phrase created to describe the abundance of this atmospheric phenomenon in the lower Po Valley.
The phrase is sometimes used to mock or self-deprecatingly emphasize the peculiarity of the local climate, which often envelops the region in "a veritable wall of fog."
For me, fog is an element that characterizes the landscape, legends, and collective imagination of the area, often associated with mysterious or atmospheric stories.

Paolo
an image, a story
I think a good photo can provide an “access key” to a certain topic or situation, it makes us ask what, where, why, it awakens emotions, thoughts, memories of situations experienced and we want to know more.
At the same time, the careful reading of the image, its aesthetic/technical analysis can facilitate the understanding and memorization of concepts and events, ..... better if I stop here .....
Paolo
