Lab2014 students presented their final design explorations for Benjamin Bratton's Critical Frameworks section, "2 or 3 Things I Know About The Stack" at The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) at UCSD. The group visited an immersive 3-D projection "CAVE", a 4K digital theater and the nanotech cleanrooms on campus, as well as The Salk Institute for Biological Studies.

In the framework of his visit to Qatar, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Head of State expressed his gratitude for the support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for all the key UN resolutions condemning the full-scale Russian aggression.
“I rely on Qatar's continued solidarity with our country during this historic time,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President emphasized the importance of Qatar's support for the Ukrainian Peace Formula. He also spoke about the preparations for the Global Peace Summit, which will include the release of captives and the return of deported Ukrainians among its topics.
The Ukrainian leader thanked Qatar for its assistance in the return of Ukrainian children forcibly deported by Russia and praised its participation in the respective International Coalition. The parties agreed to continue cooperation in this area.
During the meeting, they discussed the issues of global food security and the work of the Black Sea Export Corridor. The President thanked Qatar for taking part in the “Grain from Ukraine” initiative and allocating funds for its implementation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited the Amir of Qatar to visit Ukraine.
Marine litter is “any persistent, manufactured or processed solid material discarded, disposed of or abandoned in the marine and coastal environment” (Galgani et al. 2010). It reaches the marine environment through deliberate disposal or unintentional discharge, either at sea or from land by way of rivers, drainage systems and wind.

A 2x2 matrix classifying types of professional services activities. Intended to help distinguish true global city activities from other items. A work in progress.
This is the finished framework of the abdomen. The tail end is towards the camera.
It's built using the long Technic bricks pinned together for strength. You can see I've already installed necessary details into the supports that are needed to build the upper level of the skeleton.
The white curved panels attached at an angel will be used down both sides to give it a more organic shape, however those in the front will be hinged to move, hiding weapons underneath.
*note: It turns out this wasn't quite the finished framework. I had to add in some vertical cross pinned beams and a few other things, but none of this was modded further, just added to.
Chair, upholstered chair and table. A wood skeleton which allows different applications as regards chair and table, enabling the products to be costumized and adapted to any designs. The framework, in software production, is a support structure on which software can be organised and designed. In the same way the Framework chair is formed by a support structure in massive beech wood on which various types of designs, materials and upholstery can be adapted.

Small Group Discussion: U.S. Youth Employment Action Network: A New Mentoring Framework
For an increasing number of American youth, entering the workforce is far more challenging than they expected. Over the last several years, the unemployment rate for youth aged 16–19 has hovered around 20 percent, and a variety of sectors report being unable to fill available jobs due to applicants having insufficient skills. This growing misalignment between the demand and supply for skills means that young people will continue to be underemployed over the next decade, with young Americans aged 20–24 losing an estimated $21.4 billion in earnings. Mentoring—the pairing of a young person with a supportive nonparental adult or older peer—can prepare youth for a successful adulthood by allowing them to explore various professions, develop their skills, and stay engaged academically as they prepare for a career.
In this session, participants will:
• Learn about new mentoring models to support youth employability.
• Examine effective tools, curriculum, and methods of measurement for successful mentoring programs.
• Share best practices and lessons learned for how to provide comprehensive and culturally competent mentoring programs.

Where do the design frameworks we use and promote in permaculture come from? Permaculture is a magpie discipline taking useful material from many places and often forgetting where it took it from along the way – what can we collectively re-member? What are the histories of SADIMET, OBRDIMET and others – and might knowing those histories inform our use of them now?

Part of my trip preparation involves as much background reading as possible which naturally is mainly architectural history with enough of a framework of general history. I don’t have much time to do it this time... but reading the introduction to Simon Jenkins wonderful book on Wales, churches, castles and houses plus the Lonely Planet history section tonight is starting the process.
The other part is to get a feel for sketching - in 2007 I studied copied Fabrice Moireau’s beautiful sketches of Paris for months beforehand. At the moment I am getting a feel for Welsh buildings and the colour of the stone. I often find when I go to Scotland, it takes a day or two for my Australian eyes (used to bright light) to the muted tones of the northern light and subtle variations of brown tones.
So... Since my sketch last night I have been thinking of two things
-explore mixing browns rather than rely on the earth tone paint to get my life for the mid brown
-leave more white space to enliven the page
So that is what I tried tonight... More exploration to come in coming weeks
This is serious distraction to my Thursday housework night chores!! So what can I get done in the next 30 minutes???
