London Diaries - There's much to photograph in London and it's great to discover the similarities and the differences! www.shootnewyorkcity.com/workshops/
When I was very young, I lived on an island and I remember some awesome foggy mornings by the ocean. They weren't something that happened everyday but they weren't unknown either. Here in the mountains of southern Yukon where I've lived for almost fifty years now, foggy mornings are a much rarer spectacle, but when they do happen, they are almost incomparable.
Yesterday, we had a spectacular thunderstorm, also rather rare here, but it was something. I've experienced a tornado or two during my college days in Southern Ontario, and yesterday almost felt like that. The wind gusts, massive downpour, and lightning reminded me of the night of tornado activity that struck South London around 1984. Fortunately, we seem to have avoided a tornado here. Nevertheless, the amount and intensity of wind and rain, downed trees and soaked the land as it is seldom soaked.
Of course, moisture and a cooling of the air at night resulted in a beautiful blanket of fog over a calm and peaceful land this morning. Being Sunday, I might has slept in, but I woke early and immediately noticed the atmosphere outside. I got dresssed quickly, picked up a camera bag and headed out. Despite my quick departure, the fog was already lifting in some areas. Nevertheless, where it remained, the photographic opportunities were obvious. By the lake there was no sound and the light filtering through the fog was as soft and pleasant and one could ever imagine. Then, as if that wasn't beautiful enough, a look called from the still waters. You can't beat that anywhere!
This particular photo was taken on the edge of Schwatka Lake where some driftwood had collected and the surrounding brush made a perfect natural frame.

Looking around for some free framing apps, that can be run on laptop. This is from BigHugeLabs which is a wonderful outfit, but I'm not crazy about their basic frame options. I used to enjoy what Aviary offered on the old Flickr plus options on iPhoto on Mac, but all that's changed.

Train M90A from Hamilton Te Rapa yard to Omya's limestone works at Hangitiki south of Otorohanga, conveys empty ISO containers. These are loaded with crushed limestone and taken back to Hamilton on the same day. This loading is then attached to train 325, which departs later in the same afternoon, bound for the wharves at Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty.
