Fragmented proximities - Up close, no one is normal, and we are all ordinary. Photography allows an approach that is both deep and superficial, concrete and fragmented. These pieces of everyday life are just glimpses of an investigation into everyday routine, an attempt to enter life, which perhaps only fragments it.

It is not minor. It cannot be repaired. The damage is permanent. Fragments.

Knowledge consists of fragments of information, of facts, of experiences. We arrange these fragments in some order and we get a narrative which forms into knowledge. If we arrange fragments in a different order, we will get a different narrative. But all the information remains.

An impregnable bastide

The bastide was founded in 1265 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis, and was long protected from exactions and attacks due to its fortifications. In addition, located on a plateau at an altitude of more than 155 metres, it dominated – and still dominates – the Lot valley, thus offering an unobstructed view of possible enemy attacks.

The neighbouring forests and quarries provided the building materials for the various fortifications. Two quarries are still visible today at the place called “Moulin de Safin”.

On the plateau side, to the north and west, the village was protected by deep moats – part of which still exist today – and by ramparts.

There were three gates equipped with drawbridges and defended by a barbican. The East gate opened onto the Monclar road, opposite the current temple, the West gate onto the Clairac road and the North gate onto the moats, at the current location of the shooting wall.

It’s wonderful to see the sun after a long period of foggy, gray, and rainy weather.
